How does eating plant based help the environment, vegans produce 7x more gases than an average person and people who remove plants from their diet produce even less gases. The land animals are farmed on can't be used for growing human edible crops and regenerative grass fed farming actually helps the environment. Also animal farming is pretty sustainable, there hasn't been any significant change in how many animals are farmed for decades, the planet has sustained much higher amounts of life in the past and there are way more significant causes of emissions than animals

@@stevenfrew9301 a handful of ways. First of all, you have to know that it all dies down eventually. I’ve been vegan for 4 years know and pretty much nobody says anything about it anymore. Secondly, it takes an emotional conviction. I personally exist like that for a handful of weeks, where you want desperately to convince yourself to do it, but cannot stomach the consequences even while being intellectually convinced. Here’s my advice to you. Take a moment, right now, and just think about it. Every time you eat an animal, somebodies full existence has been miserable just for you to enjoy one moment and not face ridicule which will die down eventually. I hope I don’t come off as condescending or arrogant as I am trying to help. One thing I did that might help you is to just text anybody that would need to know. Simply say that you are going vegan for ethical reasons and that you would rather not talk about it for a while, as face to face conversations about more serious topics like veganism tend to be hard to deal with as somebody farely new to them. Think of it like you are skydiving. I promise you that it will all feel so much better once you just jump. Take that first step and I promise you that you will never look back. It sounds like you are in a similar situation to where I was, and I hope everything I just said helps. I would love to hear back if you do go through with it.

Eat like you want, but don't worry about it from a climate perspective. Yes, animals contribute a lot to greenhouse gases. Yes, there are more cows today than ever in history, however, there are a lot less buffalo and elephants. Greenhouse gas emissions from animals aren't that big a deal unless you plan on killing the animals off to get rid of them.
Also, do you only eat locally grown food? If you are eating foods grown in other countries, you are contributing more to greenhouse gasses than a person that eats locally raised animals.

To me it shows how no-one can be super dogmatic about either extreme (and yes in terms of omnivore they are extremes), but need to let each person find their own way. Many people have become quite ill on a whole foods vegan diet over time, and have felt the need to reintroduce meat or dairy. Carnivores will do and say anything to protect their way of life. They target us because we are doing something they have chosen not to do but know the pain and suffering they continue to inflict. Most humans are revolted by the sight of blood, intestines, and raw flesh and can’t tolerate hearing the screams of animals being ripped apart. The bloody reality of killing and eating animals is innately repulsive to us. While carnivores take pleasure in killing animals and eating their raw flesh, any human who killed an animal with his
or her bare hands and ate the raw corpse would be considered deranged. The best thing that anyone can do for animals is not to eat them! Not eating meat is the simplest way to save the lives of up to 100 animals every year - and to reject the daily cruelty and animal abuse that occur in abattoirs and on factory farms. Ditching meat is also one of the best things that you can do for your health and the environment.

At the end of the day I'm vegan it frees me of the guilt knowing the horrible things that go on in factory farms. I grew up during the dot com bubble and came across graphic videos of factory farms at a young age. I still have vivid memories of eating meat and having to set down my "food" as those videos would play in my head, reminding me of what I was consuming and what I was participating in.
I didn't think I'd be able to actually commit to being vegan when I started but here I am over 8 years later and never felt better. Howdy Chris,
I've been vegetarian/plant based for 23 years now. I started on the path because of seeing my overweight diabetic mother on the ICU bed after her quadruple heart bypass surgery. And while I was sad for her, all I could think was the 30 extra pounds I was carrying would put me on one of those tables in the future if I didn't change something.
So found Dr. Esselstein and Dr. McDougall - both advocating for a plant based diet. And I was off. And funny, but those 30 extra pounds I was carrying came off all by themselves. No increase in activity. No extra fitness added (I was already in the military and had plenty of exercise). It was challenging eating vegetarian in the military, but I began limiting myself to plant based foods. And then found the other reasons for doing it. Animal cruelty being one, and not having to worry about food poisoning from meat was another.
Anyway, thanks for continuing to make videos to both defend yourself, and point out what those other folks do to science. Even when science doesn't always seem to agree, it does agree that the American diet is the worst!

Also, I'm a vegan bodybuilder. I think it's hilarious that he says you don't have much muscle because I'm looking at his physique and asking, "Does this guy even lift?" 😅 I'm not impressed at all by his physique. It's all subjective.

    A few details:
    - At 20:57, I think those are cholesterol esters in yellow. The particle containing the triglycerides and cholesterol esters are the LDL themselves.
    - An interesting note from my analyses indicates that the liver packages more triglycerides in the smaller LDL particles, and more cholesterol esters (molecules) in the larger LDL, so there is some merit to the idea of looking at triglycerides since it affects LDL particle size. However, like you mentioned, all of that is background importance compared to the number of particles (submarines 😜), which is more important than the size.

Got a question for you on the fish portion of the Mediterranean diet - since the market is being flooded with farm fed Salmon and that salmon isn’t getting the algae that makes them omega-3 rich, does that mean that people are getting the risks of eating fish without any of the benefits? I have heard that farm fed fish has the similar nutrient deprivation as Cows not having B12 in their diet and ranchers are injecting their cows with B12 (which you explained in detail in your B12 episode).
Animal cruelty aside, I’m not sure if nutrition/omega-3 is a good pro-fish diet anymore. The fish that people now living in their 100’s may no longer exist.

Maybe berberine just doesn't work for vegans, but I took some (supposedly a very high quality/expensive brand) and had headaches and terrible sleep.
Great episode Chris, I love that you don't take critiques personal and always seem to have a pretty funny rebuttal.

Longer episodes so we have whatever you think is important. Please. If it's too long, I'll pause and see the rest later. Thanks for mentioning your iron episode again. We live by it every day. Iron overload is serious business. Blood donation every two months and symptoms are starting to improve. Thanks.

This was fabulous. You lost me in a couple of your previous, more recent videos - they felt like ads for whatever that water fasting clinic is that was being advertised in them. In this video, I really appreciate your composure AND your willingness to question your own beliefs/bias & then make strong arguments. This provides a good example of why we need to questions what puts us in our own camps, whatever the topic, and ensure we are able to back up our perspectives in very practical ways. I don't think it's too much of a stretch too, to have a healthy dose of skepticism when youtubers (no matter how many letters are after their name) are making claims that also line their pockets ie. unregulated supplement sales

Great episode. 30 minutes is about the time I look for to watch a UA-cam video because that is about how long I can stay focus on a social media and work out 💪.
The reason I went ovo-laco vegetarian is for many of the same reasons. I don’t eat white eggs, only brown cage free and range free if I can find them, and I have ice cream once a month.
Keto was killing my gallbladder after two years of being on it. I had to go on a clean diet and keto is not a clean diet. Also I missed fruits and potatoes. My blood work is much better on a veggie diet and I lost more weight being a vegetarian.
One last thing to mention, I don’t need to be rich to live on a keto or carnivore diet. The cost of meats these days are out of this world.

There is vegan ice cream. Brown and white eggs are nutritionally the same. All egg production is cruel and the cage free label is meaningless. Male chicks are sorted out and put in a grinder because they don’t produce eggs.

Hi Chris! I’m so grateful that I found your channel. I very much appreciate your well-researched, thorough, and thoughtful approach, as well as your courage to fact-check yourself. Thank you! In this video, you mentioned some of your additional reasons for being vegan, and one that caught my attention was antibiotic resistance. I wonder if you might consider diving deeper into this particular topic for a future episode? Thanks again for all the good stuff you put into the world!

As someone who has struggled between vegan, vegetarian, and now flexitiarian. it's refreshing to see the perceptive that your channel aims for. And as for Mike Mutzel, the science clearly speaks louder than his criticism. Love the content!

I have never once felt like you cherry-picked, or suspected you were doing so. I think you give the information as concisely as possible, in videos you hope the algorithm likes and people will watch. But herein lies the utility of response videos. You could've let it slide, but I enjoyed the follow-up, the way you listened to his critiques, adjusted some of your wording, and stood by your original point.
I, too, am very suspicious of anyone talking nutrition AND selling supplements. Not because they are inherently untrustworthy, but because they stand to make money, and money corrupts.

I took a basic nutrition and wellness class at E-Cornell, just so that I was not 'a guy' challenging other "a guys" with my book versus their book. In the class Professor Levitsky didn't mention the gut biome, and seemed to have outdated views on the benefits of fiber, as that the gut biome was not mentioned. But my last module (should have been 3rd) was The Role of Fats in Atherosclerosis. The way he explained it is that our arteries after the first year of life become super sensitive to stress, even just the impact of blood cells on to the inner cell walls of the arteries exposes a receptor known as APOE B. With LDL fats present in the cardiovascular system, they are drawn to these receptors. Then white blood cells come to dislodge the fat, and are trapped into a new structure called foam cells, and finally red blood cells themselves are trapped, causing the buildup and streaking of our arteries, CHD. He didn't mention the crystallization of cholesterol inside the arterial walls either. So I keep hearing , now, the term APOE B, and it is referred to as a marker rather than a receptor. Is this an oversimplified tool for dialogue or something I don't understand about the APOE B receptors?

That tweet could be aimed at carnivores. Replace vegan with carnivore and it’s exactly the same… except we have vegan diet studies. There are no carnivore studies because it’s too dangerous 😂
Berberine is known to drop blood glucose, why would you take it if you’re already fasting? Seems like a great way to end up in an ambulance with hypoglycemia (which can k!ll you). Him promoting it is medical malpractice imo

Meat eaters aren't biased, they hate every bite of steak, fish, chicken, egg and every sip of milk. They live in perpetual disgust and never look forward time. But that is the cost they pay for being non biased and only eating for pure nutritional requirements.
