Josh, 12Volts is dead. 12.6 is full charge. I agree jump park (sized appropriately for HD truck) would be worth having on board. Another helpful item would be a voltage monitor/ interrupter. The monitor will disconnect all 12 volts accessories when battery voltage reaches a preset level (example 50% state of charge). That way you keep enough state of charge to start the Cummins. Good luck. 28:34
If not done yet, next time truck is back home - disconnect and clean all your battery terminals, reconnect using a bit of dielectric grease on the terminals
Josh I carry booster cables, spare battery, test light, can of diesel, fuel filter, hydraulic jack, air hose to air up tires, alcohol, bag of traction sand, regular 3/8 chain, tools more as needed
Josh, I would call that company and dispute that charge I do roadside I do jumpstart that small white Dooley pick up tow truck like a F350 or 550 that came out and jumpstarted you. Their base charge isn’t but 50 or $75. So they charged you the base fee of what a 50 ton tow truck would be which is usually a minimum of 150 to 225. I had a tow truck come out to Plankinton South Dakota about 10 years ago. My APU died. The bunker died and the truck engine died. Nothing would start to run. He came out and jumpstart me charge $772 to come out 30 miles 35 miles to me and back the base fee the jump charge fee shot be supplied these for using jumper cables and showed up in a pick up truck like the shop pick up truck and charge us 195 base fee 175 a mile and we got everything back but the jumpstart be of $70 because they were charging us for equipment used, they did not use nor bring out
As a tow trucker, I can say that rate is pretty standard, as is the 10% fuel surcharge. If one battery is NFG, it can take an hour or more to charge all the batteries to get enough power to the starter. My experience. Also: Long cables are your friend, but make sure they’re heavy gauge cables. Your starter draw will melt little dinky cables. Second: full charge on wet cell batteries is 12.6v. 6 cells, each produce 2.1v when charged. Anything under 12 usually means one dead cell, which is 1.0v. Third: this means a booster pack is likely a waste. You have 4 batteries and those posts link to the batteries, not directly to the starter. Any power you supply to them has to go through the batteries to get to the starter, so be aware. If you wanted to use booster packs, buy 4, one for each battery 😊 One thing I never lead the yard without is an air hose with a half hand connector. I can fill up any of the 30 tires on my Super B with it wherever I am!
When you want to get your battery cables, go to your local welding supply store and buy the cable there (they sell it by length) and get the ends and make your own. You could even make a pair long enough to jump your truck if you nosed into a parking spot and somebody was trying to help from behind your trailer. Welders commonly buy hundred foot or longer lengths of cable for their welding rigs
It could be the cold weather, or the new sensor is malfunctioning and draining the battery. Had the problem once and unfortunately the solution was to replace the battery. Wishing you a continued good day/week and that oldblue gets well again.
+ Too bad Josh had a stuffy nose last few days and couldn’t smell the rotten egg smell if one of the batteries is going bad , l would investigate about that sensor ( test it for grounding … ) cause it’s almost always that the last job done in the truck before the trouble that caused it . Also l remember ELECTRICIAN Josh working on the lights a few days ago !!!! …🥴🥴🥴
in the middle 90s i park my big trucks and put the batteries in my tow truck and one tonne flatbed and boost cars for $20 and go to road king truck stop for lunch and boost semies for the same price $20
I've kept a booster pack in my truck for years and years and it's saved my ass on numerous occasions especially during the winter. It's paid for itself 50 times over. I highly highly suggest getting one. I'm surprised that you don't have one. In my opinion that should be really high on the list of some of the first things that you invest in when buying your own truck. Idaho some suggest getting yourself a moose bumper. It saved my ass last year when I smashed an elk in BC. I had to replace the Moose bumper but in comparison to how much it would have cost by smashing up the entire front end it was extremely worth it. Just a suggestion from one driver to another.
I have a good set of heavy duty booster cables in my rig 👍. I had my battery die suddenly at a gas station. I simply opened my hood and hooked up the cables and stood there. In less than 2 minutes a lady pulled up and asked if I needed a boost , well yes please and thank you!
I can't believe i have been a regular subscriber to your channel for over 6 years now @Trucker Josh I started watching your vlogs before you and Brit met when it was you and Diesal in the Western Star
Good day josh I have a great idea how about buy a jump starter booster pack is portable and lightweight to put in to your truck all set to go if you have some problems to get your truck start again to get back on the road Here a great day josh
I change my 4 battery one by one, some quickly dying at 2 years old possibly suffered from frost messing capacity, last one lasted more than 10 years old bought truck about 10 years ago with another year on those battery. That's why I disconnect each set when not in use every time
Josh, great content thank you! Just watched your latest on the low battery voltage. That sucks! The charge for a jump start is highest robbery!!! I bought a little jumpstart pack for $80 us off eBay! 1200amp cranking just for those little kicks on cold Michigan days for my DD60 Series. You might want to get one. J&K Michigan
So I used to drive Tow in Ontario for over a decade. Just like you as an owner operator, Tow Companies have GIGANTIC overhead. Truck payments, fuel payments, maintenance, Building Payments, Government Fees for almost everything and the list goes on...I get why they charge that. I used to charge $50-$75 to unlock a car...if you wanted your Semi unlocked it was $150 minimum. Also, they wouldn't send you a heavy wrecker to boost you as someone else in the comments mentioned the size. It would cost more money to start that truck up just to come out and do the boost so they send a regular wrecker. It's not that company in particular but you are correct in saying its the size of your truck. I've been binge watching your videos because I miss driving transport lol love the good vids man!
Buy a booster pack and keep it on charge in your bunk. Probably going to cost 500-700 for one with the amperage to cold crank a semi, but it also access portable power that would power a 12 V space heater if you were ever in an emergency something to think about
Sorry to hear about your batteries going a little flat and not powerful enough to start Ol' Blue. Glad you learned a valuable lesson about carrying jumper cables with you in winter. It doesn't surprise me at all that Minnesota people are always willing to help you out... That's why we are called Minnesota Nice. 🙂
If it had taken 1 hour, probably would've been the same price. You take the good with the bad, at least you are warm again.

When I used to haul between Vancouver, Toronto, California and Arizona I had one of those thermo king APUs which worked great for charging the truck batteries but if you parked anywhere between Vancouver and Toronto in winter and shut off the tractor with an 18 speed the transmission would freeze up and you had to warm up sometimes for 90 minutes to get the truck into gear lol
I pulled a reefer quite a bit. Jumped my truck with the reefer battery. I see you were 4 miles from my place again in Bemidji. One of these days. I look over there every time I drive by going into town. I pulled a flatbed too. They say it comes in threes, I hope not.
Hi Josh I'm from Fargo North Dakota, I just became member tonight, and i always enjoy watching you. I hope you a great night. I love watching you with your wife and your baby boy
Time for freash batteries Josh. While your at it cheak the Alternator . Yes carry jumper cables and a 2400 lithium power station. If you can. You never know when you need a jump or if someone else does
Cold weather kills batterys, time for some new ones. Especially if your running your bunk heater all night and the engine heater in the morning. Truck batterys usually only last about 3 years. If it smells like rotten eggs around your battery box you have a bad battery. Heavy duty 25' long. Trucker Josh members only............is that something like Only Fans???? 🤣😂😆 Stay safe & warm.
Think in your last vlog you were going to get a epu engine when you extend your chassis that would charge the batteries and help out with heating as well
I know a few guys that carry those jump packs. They can be expensive, but 1 or 2 jumps it will pay for itself. My mechanic has a jump pack that he uses, and it works great.
Cables or jumper box should be standard in a semi thats not running local for an owner operator. Sorry man but you failed yourself shouldn’t complain about it. Stay save
Josh...you need one of the new Lithium Ion jump packs. You could have probably done it yourself with a device the size of a brick. It's amazing the power these little packs hold.
Wow , I need to get in the boost business up there. Josh , 246 CD is ridiculous for a boost. I hate that a company had the will to charge you that much. Stay warm.
Hi Trucker Josh glad you were at the Truck stop to get your batteries jumped started and on your way to your delivery great video as always the cold weather has not been nice it'was,4 above zero last week here in Stevensville Michigan this week it's in the high 30sfeels a lot warmer have a safe travel stay safe and warm god bless 🙏

You need to invest
in a booster pack
to keep in your side box. You can
charge it up with
12volt plug. For
the nexted time.
Jump pack trucker Josh 😊. Having a jump pack you won’t need another truck/vehicle to hook to your jumper cables.
If not done yet, next time truck is back home - disconnect and clean all your battery terminals, reconnect using a bit of dielectric grease on the terminals

Dead batteries on a cold morning usually means the batteries are on the way out.
As long as the alternator is working correctly.
@@Boodieman72 quite so but a faulty alternator usually trips the warning light (we call them 'idiot lights' in Australia)
@@lostjackets4006 Ol' Blue had a few lights on before. I think Josh has a voltmeter on the dash, so that should show what's happening.
From the previous owner. Those batteries are like 5 years old. Time for new ones,Josh!!

I was up in Swan River, Manitoba, back in 2022 for about 10 weeks, driving a dump truck, doing my class 1 here in NL at the moment
The small jump box works great about $80 dollars
in the middle 90s i park my big trucks and put the batteries in my tow truck and one tonne flatbed and boost cars for $20 and go to road king truck stop for lunch and boost semies for the same price $20
Replace one battery with a starting capacitor Josh. You'll love it!
Ah,another learning experience, preventative maintenance goes a long way.

APUs are expensive BUT... 🔋🔋 they certainly come in handy driver..God bless you and the family!!
I would have gone inside and asked somebody for a Boost , give them $20.00 and everybody is happy.

Those rear 2 axles are called a Stinger. Many times heavy a Jeep, which is at the front, a with a secondary fifth wheel.
Make sure the cables are thick cables, don’t get the cheap ones
I always carried booster cables and a jump box that's a well spent 100 bucks every spent
Overload trucks usually have a booster at the rear of their trailer for weight distribution.
LOL- you paid the "going" rate. If you did not pay you would not be "going" Love the free market!

Time flies!
😱 also u can buy a 3000 amp boost pack that will boost a semi to and take up less space and cleaner to store for anyone who may need a semi boost
IMHO # 2 welding cables would work fine for jumpers. Cheap and easy to make up yourself. A battery pack and your ready to rock.
always carry jumper cables or invest in a quality jumper box. both are worth their weight in gold!
Also check the alternator for voltage output.
You don't only pay for the minute on site. You are paying for his fuel, time, wear and tear, training, wages, insurance, equipment replacement, etc.

Good morning Josh! Hope you have a great day bud. Just delivering here in Brandon, MB and then back to Red Deer. Hammer down and stay safe!👍
$150 Canadian for the booster pack I got .. it works for semis and RVs .. I either take that with me or heavy jumper cables

its just too cold for al that - Every one was compliant how warm it was 4 weeks a go :) good luck

you need to buy one of them small booster packs Josh NOCO makes a good one use them all the time on big trucks work great
Jump boxes are pretty handy to have.
When you started morning with dead batteries, that’s never good
Time to buy a nice jump box and keep it in the sleeper.
Cables or jumper box should be standard in a semi thats not running local for an owner operator. Sorry man but you failed yourself shouldn’t complain about it. Stay save
This is why i carry cables with me so when this happens i can hopefully save money buy using my reefer or hopefully another truck for a boost.
Things could always be worse, Josh. Glad you got Old Blue back up and running.
Josh the heavy haul truck had a 2 axel or tandem booster.
Take care another good video.
Safe travels..👍👍
You could also get a jump box that you keep charged up in your truck & jump yourself
Maybe that was part of your engine light problem low batties could make the engine lights throw a code just a thought
Josh...you need one of the new Lithium Ion jump packs. You could have probably done it yourself with a device the size of a brick. It's amazing the power these little packs hold.
I carry around a Noco GB150 booster pack for my HD pickup. Heard of a buddy boosting his pre-warmed Cummins X15 with one.
Wow , I need to get in the boost business up there. Josh , 246 CD is ridiculous for a boost. I hate that a company had the will to charge you that much. Stay warm.
Glad to support the best guy on UA-cam :) Drive safe
thank you!
Keep a jumpstart in your truck or put a generator on your truck.
They never expect to see you again... so they'll get you good now.

You need a APU it would have kept your batteries charged. I know they are expensive but think they would be nice.
It's a lot cheaper to run the truck overnight
Looks into getting a Green APU it has a battery boost charging on it .
this reminds me of the Volvo !!! ... it's an older truck it'll have small issues . what you need is NOCO boost or something similar , forget cables
we've all gone thru those painful expensive experiences .... its all good Josh!!! long time subscriber...always enjoy your vids....friends from Indiana
I appreciate that!
If you cables those buddy behind you can gace you a boost

Those batteries are done, new batteries time been there done that
Get your self a lithium jump pack. I use a Noco GBX 155 to boost dead highway trucks in our yard all the time. For the price of the boost you could almost pay for it.
For that price, you should invest into a jump pack.
You might need to invest in a jump pack.
I was gonna guess probably around 300 would’ve been my first guess just because the truck is heavy
Sometimes it’s cheaper for you to idle the truck in the cold rather than paying for a tow truck or mechanic.
I just now bought some 25-foot jumper cables👊
They have jump packs that are made for heavy equipment
HEY! Hello Josh , Brit and Theo!
Or invest in a APU that can monitor your batteries and charge them when needed.
That is in the 3 year plan 👍🏻
Good job
+ Don’t know if jumper boosters work with 24 volts vehicles but mine is a 12 v. good for my van , keep it under the seat , as small as the palm of a hand , came with its USB charging cable , found out that even if you press that switch on it and it shows 100% ; it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s fully charged , it only means that last time it was charged fully (100%) also in my case even if I hook it up to be charged it does not get charged unless I get red of that 100% display on it by using it either as a flash light or boosting my phone or even my car battery even if it doesn’t need boosting just to have it displaying the real charge % so it would accept the new charge , which is easily done while driving from any cigaret lighter and l found out that it’s needed every 2 to 3 weeks to have it always ready for any emergencies .

I use a Nico gbx155 jump pack jumps my semi just fine
in uk some call out charges are £350
Check your clamps on your batteries to see if they are loose and for corrosion. Batteries in the winter lose about 30% of their charge when sitting. Next time this happens, turn off everything and give the batteries a chance to recover.
What about one of those booster boxes? No cables required.
I also vote for the jump pack. Easier to store and you won't need another vehicle.
With the dead batteries that's strike 2 in terms of Old Blue telling ya it's too cold for this an wants too hibernate till May-June😂😂
