It's a decent futuristic racing game and some of the tracks are awesome but it doesn't come close to wipeout which is super smooth and super fast with no slow down at certain points on the track (what's that all about) I have had the game from the start and they still haven't addressed what I would call a major flaw in the handling of the craft and the flow of the tracks.
@@dereksmall4311 they may have been involved but wipeout is still better the lack of features and tracks alone makes it inferior wipeout has been going for so long it is totally refined and they have a lot of tracks to fall back on and it's a polished experience. but pacer as is it's a bare-bone experience at best. but it is still one of the best future racing games on the PC it's just lacking in polish and content.
@@h3onyx587 i agree but my complaint is the game sudenly slows down at certain points on the track for no reason.so its a matter of choice and i chose not to play a raceing game that does that, any raceing game. i still have it in my steam libary i just dont play it much if ever.
The new dev that acquired the game and it's IP rights publicly admitted it's dead forever, plus the one of the old producers are still suing and causing a fuss which just makes funding for any improvement or sequel practically impossible. Dead game, literally.
The concept of this type of game was originally presented in 1998 by the "Church of Electronic Entertainment" studio. The game was called "Mars Maniac Demo" and later as the full game "Space Haste 2" by "Dreams Interactive". I was a huge fan of Mars Maniac and spent long hours playing single car / single track. The main difficulty was getting each lap faster than before. My one-time record is 51 laps and an average of 20-30 laps without warm-up. I still have the game files saved somewhere on old PC.
the original wipeout, which this game is based on, preceded Space Haste 2 by more than half a decade. wipeout released on the PS1 in 1995, space haste 2 came out in 2001. developers who worked on the wipeout franchise worked on this pacer game. this game has NOTHING to do with space haste. its not inspired by it & not related to in in the slightest. if anything, wipeout inspired space haste. space haste looks more like extreme g than wipeout. another game that precedes space haste 2 by at least 4 years.
I kinda wish Wipeout (and subsequently, Pacer) never implemented mag tracks. Clinging to extremely vertical track segments feels more like Extreme-G and less like Wipeout. I always preferred the heavy, drifty feeling of Wip3out and Wipeout Pure. It felt like you were piloting a real vehicle skidding along on air, and you had to plan your turns long in advance. It made the more technical tracks a nerve-wracking experience in the best way, and it made simple tracks more laid back and speed-focused. Wipeout Pulse just kinda ruined it, even worse than Fusion did. The racecraft were too responsive and too maneuverable, making it feel a little more like F-Zero, and the aforementioned mag tracks added a bit of an Extreme-G feel. It was still a fun game, but it just wasn’t Wipeout anymore. And Wipeout HD, HD Fury, and 2048 did nothing to fix it.
@@hyperx72 And they shouldn't. The little side thrusters on the rear are meant to push the craft's rear inward so that the craft can have a better angle and steer faster in corners. Right now, the way they boost makes no sense.
@@Soliye. You're wrong. On a left turn the left thruster needs to fire to push the back end out to the right so the nose angles to the left allowing for a tighter turn. If you think it's wrong you don't understand how physics work 😂
@@liamriley9816 I think we’re both saying the same thing, but my initial comment didn’t explain the problem properly. At high speed cornering, the rear-side thrusters work correctly. But when doing micro movements at high speed or cornering at much lower speed I feel like there should be side-front thrusters pushing the front. Right now the right thrusters are on when slowly turning left. That would make the craft go side way, or turn in the opposite direction. The flaps wouldn’t help either in these slow corners. So in the end, the thrusters are working when in a long corner, but don’t make sense at low and micro mouvements. Could be fixed with front thrusters. Again I might be wrong, but my years of Kerbal makes me feel like something’s off. Rechecked and yeah, when he does micro adjusting the craft’s rear leans *toward* the side the thruster is on. It fixes it self when he reaches a certain “drift” angle.

it pretty much is wipe out moron
I agree too. I'm glad I'm not the only one that prefers the more weighty feel of Wipeout Pure.
If you love WipEout, especially the PS1 versions, this is not the game for you.
You will want to get BallisticNG instead.
Yup.
Does it bother anyone else that the thrusters for going left and right fire in the wrong direction?
