      i dont think theres a more universal feeling for artists than the urge to eat art supplies so (or maybe the artists i talk to are just unhinged)

    Procrastinating and focusing on another area that “needs less attention” is one of the most relatable things ever. Also, new sub here! I’ve been binge watching your videos while also working. Love your energy and your eagerness to constantly learn is so inspiring. ✨🌻

      Haha yes so much procrastination within my oil painting process. But that’s have the fun. Making and solving the puzzle of the paint and your focus!

    Love to see someone who does very modern art with stencils etc but still appreciates traditional media and respects the masters and what we can learn from them.

    14:40 (learning) - This was my major flaw for myself as an artist. I only ever cared for the outcome, even at this moment, the naive part of me is still saying "your painting is not as good as the one you're copying from" but you've hit the nail of the head. It's a learning process, building better foundations a deeper understanding of the fundamentals.
    Took me a long time to appreciate the state of mind one needs to engage in learning for the sake of learning.

    • @denisceballos9745
      @denisceballos9745 4 роки тому

      Agree - it’s a good way to learn, improve one’s skills, by copying the masters, as a practice. I copy my favorite artists and always make a note (give credit) to the artist at the bottom.

    Learning is super addictive if you’re having fun. I’m always having fun when painting as long as I’m able to withdraw myself from the idea of “perfection”. It’s such a mood killer. Anyways, love your videos as always.

      omg, im still struggling with the "perfection" thing 😞 I know my work looks its best when im loose but damn it's kinda hard to not freak out if it dosnt look exactly how I want it. i got some more learning to do

    The descriptions you give of your experience and evolution are simply precious. It takes someone that has strived and failed a thousand times to appreciate this expository of expression. I'm a big Alphonso Dunn fan. Your painting work is a pleasure to follow. The color bases are so important and so vital. They really help. Skintones,.. Dang, that is the kicker! Thankyou

      Great job and really well done! I would avoid Patreon like the plague. Better to just send people the address you want the money to go to and problem done. No need to rely on censorship machines to do things for you because the more you use them the less chance you have of using one the next time you use it. Its a law of the market.

    Sargent did not use a limited palette. Also, a very common trait of the Zorn palette is a yellow hue to the face/skin tones. Okay Slew might be one of my favorite painters after this video, he talks about exactly what I struggle with when I'm painting when other artists on youtube just make it look like they're gods and can just do anything without any problems or anything else, slowing them down, while Slew just showed exactly what it's like to paint

    I received my May’s scrawlrbox a few days ago, it had some charcoals and pastel pencils in it, I’ve always hated those media but I’ve been super inspired lately by you to just go for it. Practice my art and trying to shed that fear of not making a masterpiece every time but simply just create stuff, which has resulted in not only do I do more art than before, but also my level for sure improves. It has also led me to not fearing my new art supplies and just jump straight into it. I love doing portraits and here I sit with a quite decent portrait in a media i am not used to (nor skilled In) and THAT makes me feel proud, so a thousand times thank you for ALWAYS inspiring and helping me push my artistic skill. So cool! 🙌🏻💙

    Normally would being that arrogant and so contenious of young people now would address you as Young man, but instead I feel you deserve a 'Sir', having retired at the age of 65, three years ago, grumpy, extremely critical and took up oil painting could not believe the number of 'so called Art tutors' on here who dare to call them artists. I also was a teacher trainer and can truly say you are a true artist, you can teach, have character, intellect, humour and talent and I 'hate' you LOL. Have been watching Richard Robinson (New Zealand) 'My Paintclub' (very good artist and tutor) and he very much promotes John Sargent and is why I came across your UA-cam, I will certainly subscribe and I am sure I will learn a lot from you.

    This is a great beginner tutorial. It’s important to note that, although this has likeness to the original, the technique And overall outcome are far from the original. Sargent, like many of the great masters, would build his painting up in layers of coloured glazes. These glazes give his work the depth and form that can’t be achieved with anywhere near the same quality with this wet on wet, surface level technique. After seeing some of Sargent’s work first hand, his glaze most likely used a damar based varnish. It would have had one of the popular painting oils and turpentine.
    Still a great video. Just wanted give people some extras.
