Slow

The best way to play something "FAST" (or difficult) is to practice it "SLOW." The tempo your student should be practicing their practice part or "chunk" is the tempo that they can play it EASILY without mistakes--slower than you think. It might feel uncomfortable at first and it won't sound "like the song" but that's ok. Gradually over time, increase the tempo.
