Indeed, and many pro players think the same as Magnus does. Niemann was banned twice in online chess for cheating (and he admitted doing it). Further, his interviews yesterday and today just don't add up at all. He misses important lines and gives completely illogical lines for examples. Many things point towards Niemann cheating also over the board, and not only online.

The library's been exchanged for a plate collection! Wonderful analysis. Watching the "Hans will get smoked" comments pre-tournament, it is so good to see him silence all his doubters with this start! Carlsen has said in the past that he much prefers playing an Aronian or an MVL or a Mamedyarov as opposed to someone like Hans because he's much more familiar with their repertoires. That is in plain evidence here!
Hmmm my chess also speaks for itself - but not with the same positive message as Mr Niemann lol. Fascinating that the super computers found defensive tries. I guess we will see the fruits of that analysis in the world championship match. Ty Daniel!
With hindsight a very controversial game. I cannot help but feel that Niemann's play was very good, entertaining, educational but nothing suspicious or of the level "only a computer would find this move". For example Be6 is a simple move. When faced with a threat you can either react to the threat (bring queen to safety) or pose a counter threat. Thanks for the coverage. :)
Well, if you look at it like this ("only a computer can find this move"), then I can't think of many (any?) moves in chess history that would be suspicious. In hindsight everything seems simple. Nieman made it look easy to outplay Magnus in an endgame, with the back pieces no less. Since that's not what he usually does, one could call his performance suspicious for this reason alone. Of course that doesn't prove anything, but it's safe to say that Niemann played well above his normal level, especially in hindsight. I cannot recall another game of his since then where he made beating a world class player look as easy.
I was waiting for Daniel's analysis. I think Magnus wanted to head into less charted waters expecting he would be better in this situation. A lot of controversy with the Magnus withdrawal. I'm not sure which side of the fence I'm on.
