The thought crossed my mind too. Its actually quite safe - well marked out path. Seeing the snake early made me wonder about the Resort too, very near the beach and Resort facilities. But woke us up to the realities of the jungle. There was a bit during the trek, when the ranger shook an overhanging leafy branch before we walked under - presumably not to surprise a snake...

Also climbed mt Kinabalu - worst experience of my life, stayed at the Shangri-La too, unfortunately not that one, one of the same name in the CBD

Yah, I understand. Shangri La Tanjung Aru you stayed - I've stayed there too. Climbing Mt Kinabalu isn't a bed of roses - tough and have to be disciplined. But at least you can say you climbed Mt Kinabalu - Congrats...
