Gable, Grant, Cooper, Tracy, Powers, Flynn all great actors but Randolph Scott was the most natural born actor. He is today still remembered and honored by fans some who never saw him on the big screen but watch his films and admire the man who was a professional and personal giant and gentleman.
Just wish they still made movies this way, instead of all the foul language and unnecessary violence and blood shed. They will never replace the greats like Scott, Wayne, Lancaster, etc., the real actors, the great actors. Thanks for a classic western.

Life in the late 1860's in the frontier West: Violent, fear-ridden, dirty, racist, ignorant, nasty, brutish, diseased---and often short. ...... It is a miracle that many of our ancestors lived through this time, though not all communities in America were blighted by feuds like this, thank God. Considering its age, this film is well made, better than 90% of western films produced in the past 30 years in Hollywood. The woman whom Scott is attracted to is a very fine actress and a real beauty.
Excellent movie, acting, hysterical dialogue. Loved it. Murder? Why it was feuding, pure and simple. Shirley Temple is the child at 21:15 and 36:15. She's so cute.
Many of Zane Grey's westerns had the heroine/leading lady/object of attention as the daughter/ward/captive of the baddie living at their ranch/hideout/secluded canyon where the stranger (who gets shot/beaten up/bushwhacked/jailed), finds her and falls in love/lust and then vanquishes/transforms/jails the bad guy who is redeemed/remorseful/not remorseful in the end. In the meantime, boy finds girl/loses girl/gets girl in the end. Most enjoy this one.
Now days,, somebody sits at a computer and designs a special effect,, then someone else writes a movie around that effect.. Maybe it's because I'm old, but I prefer a story, dialogue and acting,, even if the story is worn, the dialogue is a bit hoaky and the acting kinda thick. Computers are for watching movies, not designing them. And Esther Ralston is as handsome a woman as there is on the screen today..
The Colby's need to wipe that family out before they breed letting their father go in alone then leading them into an avalanche ''PLEASE DON'T BREED'' .

The problem with this movie is that it takes place well after the event. A western set in the 60s (75 years earlier) would be better.

That's a rather strange one....kind of plays like a silent picture.
But I guess back in 1933 they were still experimenting with sound movies.

Great movie,not like todays films, you can actually hear what they say, no mumbling like todays junk.
The lady was ok not one mark on her after she got beat with a horse whip lol. The endings bad ass thats how you use to kill wild pigs.
