Loving all of your bonus techniques 😂 cheers!
Your links not working :(
mothers house in two years and then remodeling the whole house have been watching your videos like text books and plan to spend the next year learning how to build correctly. my only question i have i guess is two things. I know i cant do everything and luckily my uncle is an inspector so he can check on things for me when i hire contractors to do work but im Know and am afraid there may be times where he is busy and i will have to maybe look myself and make sure things are being done correctly i guess is a way to put it with out being rude. its just i hear so many horror stories about little things that got over looked and then growing into larger problems later down the road. so my question im asking i guess is how does one go about screening a contractor and second what are some major things to look for i know i cant scan every inch like a murder scene but if the are certain projects and arears that i should focus on making sure it done to the t i would love to know. if you could do a video on this for new home renovators this would be so helpful
If you want very precise location then get small magnet and go over where are screws. I do always this way
Fuck I thought my stud finder was broken lol thanks buddy now I can wall mount my TV you learn something new every day thank you
The problem with those stud finders is everytime I put one in my pocket it goes off
Next short: "how to patch a hole in dry wall."
618 likes and no replies? Let's change this shall we
Yes
Yes
this vid is definitely a bait because he has about 100 videos on how to work with drywall for anyone who tries method 3
That's how you make one video.....but two.
Jeff, a skilled person always verifies that their tools are calibrated. When using one of the electronic stud finders, you should first hold it to yourself and declare, "Yep it works!"
This is the way.
This is the way
This is the way.
This is the way.
This is the way.
The third way is clearly the best way to find a stud. There is no messy guessing. It's really good for finding water pipes and electrical wires too. And of course always plunge cut with a Sawzall for the quickest results.
I personally like the fourth
Think you mean 4th
@@FinDubGames 4rd
This does not work in germany tho before your wall would do something like that the hammer breaks
Messy guessing 😂
Last method is definitely my go to. Landlords always hate it though can't figure out why
Methods I use:
1 - Magnet
2 - Hold a bright flashlight parallel to the wall. You'll see the pops.
You forgot to bonus dad jokes technique: Point to yourself and say “Here. I found the stud!”
Thank you. Was waiting for that and it never happened.
I'm a master at that...
🤨📸 found it
I usually just tap with my knuckles instead of a hammer, I’d definitely dent the drywall with a hammer, too clumsy. I have a decent studfinder now though. Old ones were pretty useless.
Ain't gonna find me with that technique kid
@@Manilaphoenix You like patching hammer holes in drywall?
Particularly when you use the corner like he did.
Never thought of the flashlight, that’s a great tip!
I have the same stud finder and it works like 23% of the time.
I always have a few strong magnets in my toolbox & one of the things they're useful for is finding studs. Just put one in your hand & wave it over the wall, when you pass over a nail/screw in the drywall the magnet will stick & there's your stud!
I use magnets, too.
Oh wow, I never thought about that. Thanks for the tip!
Old computer hard disc drives are a source of FREE extremely strong magnets.
Problem with magnets is they don't work too well on plaster walls. Now on drywall, they are awesome.
Me too! Works great unless the drywaller missed the studs too. Or a patch job.
That last bonus way is exactly what the person did who owned the house before us. There was I think a foot wide hole in the wall right above the stove never seen it till we got rid of the old one 😂
Every time I am amazed with these cardboard walls .
South Africa we just have brick walls.
When I was little I always wondered how people in the movies could just punch a hole in the wall when our walls are made out of brick.
People over there are weird, why would you have walls which are as thin as cardboard
Its not cardboard, its sheet rock. Very rigid and a decent material for walls as it allows for easy replacement and removal if you want to remove the wall.
That’s interior drywall because we can afford to put insulation between our exterior and interior walls. Majority of homes in the US are brick or stone on the outside. In the past 20 years been a lot of vinyl siding but for the 100+ years before that it was brick, stone or logs
The purpose of drywall is many fold; it adds an air barrier, is easy to repair, and makes it possible to quickly add fixtures.
In the UK houses are double skinned brick, with insulation, and then drywall / plasterboard is applied to the interior.
It looks nicer, and not having it is cheap. I don't understand why you *wouldn't* have it.
In europe we have brick walls too.
I‘ll never understand why america uses this cheap bullshit. People over there are weird.
I like the stud buddy, essentially just a strong magnet. I find it more consistent than an electric stud finder
Assuming the guy who hung the drywall didn't leave any screws that completely missed studs. Whoever built my house missed 25% of the time. It's REALLY bad
This, I love those things
The last method is my favorite because it's the most accurate you know....you can't go wrong with that method.
Another good one is the long skinny nail technique ......my Jamaican handyman showed me when hanging my kitchen cabinets years ago.
that screw test really helped me feel better about everything- thank you!
Easier way:
I always keep a strong magnet with me. Use the magnet to find the screw heads by sliding it around. Find screws found studs.
The little Hanson magnetic stud finder works really well. I use one every day.
Same!
The go to stud finder for me👍
My dad is a homebuilder and he has basically taught me to be a stud master.
Haven't mastered me yet, so I've gotta disagree with this 'stud master' proclamation.
I just used the light on the wall technique. Worked great ty.
That light trick is called casting and a good plasterer/drywaller should cast ALL main walls. Especially ones that have window light shining directly on them
A really good wall finisher is Hard to find.
Looks in mirror: “That’s a stud”
Damn, you beat me to it. 😉
Same, lol
How did you get so awesome. I love you. You are so highly skilled, authentic & you have saved me millions of hours.
I love your videos, you have helped me more than once!
I like the bonus way. My wife…not so much.
😂
Best way that works everytime is a strong magnet to find the screws. Don't waste time doing it any other way
Lol! Love the bonus technique! Wish I could do it that way every time. Believe me, I'm tempted to on wood paneled walls.
Best stud finder I’ve used is a Franklin sensor - super accurate finds entire stud, don’t need to figure out edges of the stud like most other brands only show
😂 I just use a strong plastic covered magnet. Doesn't leave Mark's, holds to the screew.
Like others have said...magnets!!
Use magnets to find the drywall screws that are screwed into the stud, stud found👍🏻
All respects Airborne, but what if the guy hanging sheetrock decides to put lines of screws that aren't in studs?
"Six inches from here!" 😂❤️
Hilarious! That fact that you were looking for the stud with the hammer made me shake my head then at the end when you smashed a hole was awesome! Thanks!
Also, just use a literal magnet, it sticks to the screws
I bought a thermal monocular recently for unrelated use, but found out it can be used for finding studs and finding cold spots.
Oh I loved the bonus way. Thanks again :)
In all seriousness: the stud finders kinda fail when you need to find the studs behind 1” of lathe and plaster. There are also no screws to find with a magnet. And in a really old house, the studs aren’t 16” OC. So I had to resort to a gentle version of the 3rd method: a series of 3/16” holes drilled with a masonry bit, about every 1” until I hit solid wood, and then explored that area more closely. I was hanging cabinets and had to make sure I’m gonna go exactly into the solid wood and not even the edge of it. And the studs were spaced anywhere from 14 to 17” OC. Lots of small holes that I drilled that day but it was easy to fill it all up later.
Thanks for all you do much appreciated!
I have a magnet set that’s designed for cleaning the inside glass of a fish tank so they’re very strong AND felt lined. Perfect for finding the drywall screws.
The bonus way worked the best actually. Had a hole already and it just helped me move forward.
This was. Hilarious. Thank you, I love your videos and so helpful to learn 😁
This guy is the best in the world, love this channel
Love that bound option!
I found myself a few years back but thanks for teaching others
love the bonus technique!
Fourth way most houses are laid on 16 layout so if you grab a tape measure the next number of would be 32 and so forth it’s the Red on a tape measure
Gotta love that bonus technique 👌
Hey if you pull tape from corner.Useually layouts are 16 on center.Thanx for excellant video
I have a magnetic stud finder that finds the nails / screws of the drywall - perfect 😊
The last one is my go to 👌🏻
For a second, the hammer tapping sounded like a mad beat
Love the bonus technique! 😆
Finds a stud next to the outlet. Imagine that. Pure genius 👏🙌👌
Bonus technique is sure fire 🔥
If I can’t find my stud finder, I use a handful of small neodymium magnets when looking for studs. They show you where the screws are that are holding up the drywall. Get about 2-3 on a row, and you can use a laser level to split the difference.
Last technique got me. 👌
I love that last one, lol😂😂😂
I've been using the bonus technique for years. Tried and true
The bonus is the best way I have found because it's 100% accurate. Plus it will keep you busy a lot longer. Job security.
you can also use your hand which by the way is much more elegant with the fragile paint on the wall
That last one cracked me up 🤣
Did construction for 4 years and there were stud finders there but were rarely used I seen them used a handful of times and never once worked. It's easier to look for the nail or screw spot that isn't filled like he did
the 4th one I think is the best one tbh👌
I use a small stack of rare-earth magnets the small round discs. It'll stick to the top of the screw or nail and leave a mark on the wall so you know where it's at so you can mark multiple places
Walabot, works surprisingly well!
I will definitely try the last one.
Also using a small earth magnet , find a drywall screw then measure 16 inch increment to find rest of studs
The last one is the way to go!!
I approve the bonus. Good air flow
Using a magnet stud finder is good too. Also, using a tiny drill bit to drill to the left and right of a stud is a good idea. Especially if you are hanging some heavy and need to verify you are dead nuts center on the stud
I believe the last one is my favorite.
I like the bonus technique the best, highly recommend it
They sell a stud magnet now. By far my favorite tool.
I like the bonus technique. Very effective.
IR cameras are pretty good as well, especially on external walls.
My favorite way is to use a strong magnet. A rare earth magnet works best but any small one will do. Run it along the wall and it will lock on to the drywall screws. Drag the magnet straight up and down to add additional points if you need a line from top to bottom. Works with metal or wooden studs if your magnet is decent.
Love your channel
I had to buy my daughter a stud finder yesterday. We were installing a shelving unit that hung from a metal bar across the wall. It was too heavy to be screwed into drywall only. Of course the studs weren’t on regular 24”;spacing so it would have taken several hours to find the needed studs. Tapping didn’t work.
Love the bonus test. Stay classy ☺️
The bonus technique works for me every time
make a tiny hole at an angle, big enough for a coat hanger insert hanger pull out, and measure patch hole with caulking
The previous owners of my house used the third technique when mounting barn wood to the walls.
Love the bonus technique! 🤣🤣🤣
The bonus technique is *chefs kiss
I wasn't expecting that, also I have that same stud finder.
In US you can also shine a strong light from behind to see through the walls
I like the last one!! 😂
Ok serious tip for those having a tough time or have old walls.
Grab thread, the thinner the better, stick a rare earth magnet (neodymium) on the end, slowly drag it across the wall. It'll flicker when it comes across metal nails. Careful for water and gas pipes but this method is literally the only one that works for me other than smashing holes. Good luck 👍
The bonus technique killed me LOLOLOL
I'll be impressed when I find a stud finder that actually works.
I’m definitely gonna be using the bonus technique 😎
I always end up doing number 4 at home. At work number 1 works all the time
The last one seems really handy
I tap on the wall and then use a thin Phillips screwdriver to poke holes in about 1" spacing to find/verify the stud location. It also helps to study the construction techniques so you will know generally where some stud support will always be such as edges of windows and doors, top and bottom of walls, along side of electrical outlets and not to forget that many studs are spaced 16" apart. I have also used a magnet to find the screws or nails in the drywall. Happy hunting.
Really strong magnet works pretty well and no calibration needed
That ending 😂😂😂😂
The last one is my favorite
The baby gate plastic covered magnets work well. Just slide them on the wall and they'll find the nail or screw heads.
I use a really strong magnet. I learned this on accident. I bought some magnets for my fridge. They were really strong. Much stronger than I expected. As I was unpacking them I broke one near the stove as I was testing. It slammed down hard. So I said… “I wonder… “, and stuck 3 together. They slammed right to the wall where I saw a screw bump. I began to use the, to hold things on the walls. Came in handy when hanging shelves.
a strong magnet to find the screws is my favorite.
That last part was funny 😆😆😆😆
