She looked so much like her and acted so much like her that when I saw it I thought they just aged her up perfectly with some crazy magic, when I found out that it wasn't teen Deja's actress playing the part I was shocked because of how good Adult Deja was in the part.
@@brileann4176 yes, I can certainly see Tess growing up to look like that, it's just that with deja it was like a older twin. And you are very right, in general the casting on this show is amazing.
In S6 E16, Kevin talks to Sophie about their “lazy Saturdays” as kids. They would watch old movies, play four square (chalk is used to draw out the squares) and pin the tail on the donkey. He tells Sophie that he would love to recreate that for Rebecca. Looks like they are bringing different elements of that memory to create that moment one last time for Rebecca as she’s passing.
I think Rebecca's eyes still looked young with her being in her early 80's. Older eyes contact lenses would've been more realistic, but I was amazed with how well her skin, neck, and hands were aged. Great job.
If I could write the perfect ending: Rebecca crosses over from life to death, all the characters who had passed are there, and who is waiting for her? Jack; of course! So they have their heavenly reunion and all is fine when Jack says: Rebecca, I want you to meet someone. Rebecca sees a man, who is turned the other way. The man (who is played by Justin Hartley) turns around and Rebecca says, "Kevin, what are you doing here?" The man says, "Hi mom; I'm not Kevin - I'm Kyle!"
I love this ending. I just wonder where Miguel fits in? Is he Jack's best friend again, or does Rebecca get to be with both of them in the Afterlife? It wouldn't be fair for Miguel to be left alone/without a companion.
I enjoyed the episode but surely I can't be the only one that thought Miguel, Randall, Kate and Kevin deserved more moments to talk to Rebbeca like Beth and the doctor got? I was waiting all episode for that. Poor Miguel got 5 seconds! He's absolutely critical to Rebecca's life. It would have been great to see Miguel help her through the train (that would have had a deeper meaning). Overall still enjoyed it'll the episode just think they missed a few potential moments with Miguel and the kids
I completely agree! I thought Miguel got the short end of the stick on the train! He was such an important part of her life, and the doctor and Randall's dad got wayyyyy more time with her.
Here's a good explanation about the Miguel train scene: "I feel like a lot of people are missing the fact that all of this was going on inside Rebecca’s head, in the mind of someone with Alzheimer’s. In a way, she’s her own unreliable narrator, and her recollection of the last few years of her life is unfortunately non-existent. She’s not the late 70s-aged version of herself; she’s Rebecca at her prime. All of the people she sees actually manifest as they would have been at that time. Of course Miguel gets short shrift - he was only ever Jack’s friend in the time frame in which she sees herself. The big three appear as adults, but her flash of recognition seems more palpable when she sees them as children and young adults. William symbolizes the confusion and self-flagellation that came with keeping secrets from Randall, and in her last moments, he (and the doctor) permit her to forgive herself for her life’s mistakes. I think his was incredibly well handled. I’m not sure if people really were expecting the metaphorical “life flashing before her eyes”, because what they got was something significant and profound: a woman, at the end of her life, forgiving herself and being forgiven."
I started watching this series with my step dad, he was confused as to who anyone was with the flashbacks, so I was always there when he was confused. It hurts the most now as he has since past away, as well as my mom, both from the same cancer.

I am sure every singke one of us in this world can relate to one of the characters some how. I hate to see it end but cant wait at the same time.
I started watching it again from the beginning, and here is another clue that I missed the first time I watched it. On the first (adult) Thanksgiving episode, the family is taking their walk. Kevin and Rebecca are walking together, and she asks Kevin what the name of his play was again. He tells her that he has told her the name about 8 times. This seems to be the start of her dementia.
That was cleverly slipped in since it came across as her being disinterested in Kevin, and being more attentive to Randall and his life ( such as her grandchildren). It was very easy for the audience to misinterpret it that way instead of the onset of her dementia.
I think that was a mistake with Toby not having the wedding band on in the future because we found out last week on the “family meeting”‘episode that Toby is married to Laura.
@@jtidema hmm but when Kate calls Toby for advice on the family meeting episode…doesn’t he have a wedding ring on when they show him holding the phone? I loooooooove this show but I couldn't quite understand the significance behind the Marcus storyline. Imo it was kinda useless since Rebecca was already dying/dead. I hope they'll discuss this soon.
It has to do with the circle of life and the small gestures that touch the lives of strangers. Jack was kind to a panicked father after his son was in an accident, and shares the "when life gives you lemons" analogy. Jack dies that day, but the boy lives. Rebecca develops alzheizmer's, and the son goes on to advance Alzheimer's treatment. Marcus' family goes on to adopt the "life gives you lemons" analogy as their own.
But if Jack wasn't with Tobey in season 3 flashforward (he was coming with Kate)... Why is he shown with Tobey and Phillip in this last episode?? Thats a huge continuity mistake
Only thing I don’t understand is that in the flash forward where Randall calls Toby he’s all alone and seems depressed with no wedding ring. But in the most recent episode (right after Miguel dies) he’s happy and with that new girl he met after his divorce with Kate and then in even further flash forwards (post Rebecca’s death and baby Jack’s adulthood) he’s with that same girl that he was with when him and Kate first separated. Why wouldn’t he be with her during the timeline that Rebecca dies? Maybe they separate and then get back together again down the line? I personally think it’s a plot hole and that’s a shame because the show has been so well written.
Toby is sad about Rebecca dying. Nothing more. As far as the ring maybe he does not sleep in his wedding ring. I take mine off at bedtime as my fingers tend to swell at night.
My guess is that Toby and I think his future wife’s name is Laura weren’t married at the time of Rebecca’s death. They were together but probably were dating for awhile before actually marrying.
There is an entire episode in season one where Rebecca is thinking about the kids growing old and they play Pentatonix hell on the donkey until they decide to have the Princess bride and Madonna party and the kids wanted separate birthday parties
