Thats awesome. Its always fun to see when some brainstorming on a page actual turns into a physical game.
Yes isn’t that so cool? That’ll never get old 😊
Pam, congrats on publishing Blob Party. This was an interesting behind the scenes. I'd love to see more. I do have a question - do you have any recommendations on how much is too much to share about your prototyptes etc online? You seem to keep topics, IP, pubishers, sell sheets etc pretty quiet. But then there's all this open play testing that goes on etc. It's unclear when, how and why to draw the line between open and closed. Thoughts?
Thanks so much for watching! For me, I am open about sharing my games that I’m working on with playtesters for feedback, and share some game ideas publicly on this channel, but if a game gets picked up by a publisher or I’m pitching it to publishers, then I don’t share that. You have to sign a contract when you license a game and usually that includes a section about not disclosing any info about the game before it’s released. So yeah, at the earlier stages, I’m pretty open but then if it gets signed by a publisher (or might get signed) then I don’t share that publicly. Hope that helps!
That was really cool to hear the progression. Love the idea of keeping good notes for the whole journey. I keep a different journal for each game but I like your idea of using one journal for everything. I saw myself playing Blob Party at Gen Con. My face and red shirt make a very brief appearance! Congrats on the game and selling out of it at Gen Con.
Thanks for stopping by to play Tommy! It was great to meet you. Best of luck with your designs, you’ve got some great stuff and I know they’ll do well 🙌
Thanks for making this; I was hoping you would. Amazing to see the thought process and iterations. This is proof that playtesting early and often really makes a difference. Keep the quality coming.
I’m glad you enjoyed! Wait until my design diary for the next one… it might be an hour long video with all of the iterations it went thru 😅 Thanks for watching :)
I mentioned elsewhere that I was going to look for Blob Party at Barnes and Noble. Our new B&N here in Charlotte NC has 4 copies. In a central display. In their own cubby, not hidden . 🎉🔥
whhaaaatttttt! Yesssssssssss. Thank you so much for checking, and letting me know!
@@PamWallsGameDesign so excited for you! Wish UA-cam would let me upload the display photo. Great display at this particular store, didn't do you dirty at all. Hope you get tons of sales.
@@bethezebra Thanks so much, I really appreciate it :)
Wonderful video, Pam! Really enjoyed following you on the journey from inception to release, it provided a great deal of insight and information to me about game design. Now to go and watch the unboxing!
Thanks so much Greig!! 🤗
Thanks for sharing your experience! I can see similarities to my progress in my games:) I haven't publlished anything yet, but I hope to do that some time soon.
That’s awesome! Are you signed up for any upcoming speed pitch events?
@@PamWallsGameDesign Not yet, where do you find them? Currently I am looking forward to participating in the HippoDice contest (which closes 15th of October). If that doesn't get any interest in my games, I think I should try! Are you participating in contests?
I share upcoming speed pitch opportunities in my weekly newsletter if you want to check that out: mailchi.mp/263952f8510f/hello-its-the-first-pam-walls-game-design-newsletter
If you’re near the Chicago area, Protospiel Chicago is happening soon too, and I always check the Unpub website for upcoming events.
I personally don’t participate in contests because most of them require that you don’t pitch your game until they have picked a winner, and pitching games takes priority for me. But having a game do well in a contest can definitely open some doors, especially for new designers.
@@PamWallsGameDesign Thanks! I just subscribed! :)
I am a fellow designer from Germany, so Chicago is not close for me, but luckily Essen is, so I will go to the Spiel 2023 this year :)
@Sprudel1x1 Essen looks awesome!! Definitely go if you can.
Thanks for the video Pam.
I also like the idea of spreading out which you described.
Maybe it could be even simpler - maybe just the current clue giver is turning over cards. More and more each turn. And he/she has to mark one of the words. And then the person who gets it first gets a point.
But with so many party games out that might be already existing.
Which game comes to mind regarding your initial idea is the game "Fiesta de los muertos".
Do you know that one?
That’s a good idea! I’ve actually been thinking about this game even more and have an iteration that I’m excited to try out tomorrow. It’s leaning more into the “breadcrumbs” idea of trying to follow a player’s train of thought. Which has a similar vibe to that Fiesta de los Muertos game you mentioned below! I hadn’t heard of it but it is super clever and definitely my vibe! Thanks for letting me know about that one :)
Lovely and informative video.
Thanks for watching! 🤗
Thanks Pam, and good luck with this!
Thanks so much!! 🙌
Congrats! It's so cool seeing your game come to life
Thanks so much Jonathan! ☺️
