This is an amazing cadence. I remember running to this at MCRD San Diego. I was 17, I'm 35 now. This shit warns my heart but brings a tear to my eye.God Bless The United States Marine Corps. This makes me think of the first Marine I heard of who died just like this. Cpl Jason Dunham sometime before I went to boot camp in 2006.
Mamma told Johnny not to go downtown The Marine Corps recruiter was hanging around; But Johnny went downtown anyway To hear what the recruiter had to say The recruiter asked Johnny what he wanted to be Johnny said I wanna join the infantry. So Johnny caught a plane out to Vietnam, To fight some people called the Viet Cong. Killed a hundred men with his rifle and blade, Only god knows how many lives he saved. Johnny was bad and he was brave, Johnny jumped on a hand grenade. Saved the lives of the men he led, But now poor Johnny he was dead. Before he died this is what he said, To tell his momma when he was dead Momma, momma, don't u cry, The Marine Corps motto is Semper Fi.
I was in a JROTC in high school, and we shared a base with a platoon of Marines. (6th Motor Transport BTN, if anyone's around). We did this cadence all the time when they were around
I watched this clip along with my father. He was a Captain at Con Thien in '66. My Uncle was a Corpsman that helped in Hue City in '68. I served couple of tours in Bosnia during the '90s. I like this comment.
Not a marine but heard the last verse of this and had to come digging. Idk if any one here believes in WW3 but a lot of men will be singing this song soon
