George is one of the best male vocalist of all time imo. He is the absolute king of collabs. He has a great song with the late great Whitney Houston called "If I Told You That" It is a total bop and I know you guys will love it. He has collabs with Mary J Blige, Elton John and you absolutely must get to his live performance with Queen at the Freddy Mercury Tribute Concert singing "Somebody To Love". Just don't compare him to Freddy. George is George and is great in his own right. He was paying tribute to an icon and a friend and he absolutely hits it out of the park with 72,000 people in attendance and millions watching live (like I did) all over the world. It is a must see.
I watched history being made! Aretha was afraid of flying & she showed up in her hometown at George’s concert to sing I Knew You Were Waiting For Me. It’s the ONLY time they ever sang it Live!Sadly, Aretha, George & even the venue are gone now. The performance was Amazing & I think it’s on here. George & Aretha R.I.P.❤❤
You were there???? OMG, you are just one of a few thousand in the world !! I have only seen the video on youtube of that performance. I am from Europe, I saw him live in Rotterdam, the Netherlands when he promoted the patience Album. I still love Wham and George Michael. Greetings from Berlin Germany
Aretha was huge back in the day, but she had a comeback in the mid-80s with a string of hits, like "Freeway of Love", "Who's Zoomin Who?", and an absolute killer version of "Jumpin' Jack Flash" with Keith Richards and Ron Wood. Thanks for the reaction, guys!
She had many hits in the 80s, starting with her Blues Brothers appearance and Think song, then #1 R&B songs written and produced by Luther Vandross including a jump to It and Get It Right. George M was great but not even close in terms of career and charted hits, Aretha sand for many more decades. He flew to Detroit to record with her, is old MTV video about the collaboration.
Another GREAT collab is George Michael and Elton John, "Dont't Let The Sun Go Down On Me". I prefer this version over the orignal Elton cut. New subscriber!!
I love this duet. Their voices are so good together. RIP to both icons and legends. Aretha was very relevant from the 60's until she died. In the 80's she had one of her biggest selling albums with WHO'S ZOOMIN WHO in 1985. But anyone who was anyone wanted to sing with Aretha. George was clearly no slouch vocally. His voice was capable of matching hers. Check out Aretha's song - "Another Night". Both are in the top 5 of vocalists in my opinion. Also check out the collab b/w Aretha and the EURYTHMICS - "Sisters are doing it for themselves", which was around this same time. Aretha was everywhere!
OK. So. Aretha' Franklin's people pursued George Michael to do this duet with her. Not the other way around. AF was with Arista Records at that time and Clive Davis thought of GM to duet with AF after he saw GM sing with Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder at the "Motown Returns To The Apollo" concert in 1985. That concert was full of the most famous and amazing Soul/R&B artists up to that time and GM was one of 3 other "Caucasian" singers INVITED to perform. George Michael is a Soul singer! Stevie Wonder was in awe of him when they sang together and gave GM an open approval to cover any of his songs- which GM did (I think over 10 of them). "Love's In Need Of Love Today"; "Village Ghetto Land"; "I Believe When I Fall In Love" ; "As" (a duet with Mary J Blige); "They Won't Go When I Go" - just to name a few. FUN FACT: Did you know George Michael was the first "White" artist to ever win the American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B Male AND Favorite Soul/R&B Album in 1989? (UA-cam has clips - search for them). This song won a Grammy in 1988 for Favorite or Best Soul/R&B Duo giving AF her first #1 hit after 20 years. In my opinion, GM is one of the very best male vocalists of all time. His vocal range, the control he has over his voice, his ability to hold a note for like an hour. If you listen to a song and cannot tell if it is live or a studio recording - that is an amazing vocalist! That is George Michael! Fall down the GM rabbit hole, guys. It's so worth it!
If you turn in to the Wings of Pegasus, who is a vocal analyst, and singer songwriter musician himself, Reviews and breaks down George’s vocal ability. The industry and critics, along with his contemporaries have always considered George one of the best vocalist of all time.
George Michael is just under freddy in Best male vocalist of all time and areatha is just under whitney in best female vocalist of all time by the Internet
@@beyadict Yes, Whitney had a great voice, but Aretha IS an icon far beyond that! Also Whitney bowed to Aretha & Cissy Houston (Whitney’s mother) sang backup for her. The music industry is very different now. A great performance is Aretha at The Kennedy Center Honors. Songwriter Carole King (another icon) was thrilled for her to sing it Live (Natural Woman). Aretha is the Queen of Soul & will Always be. Our hometown Detroit. A good look is her life story played by now talk show host & phenomenal singer Jennifer Hudson.
IIRC Aretha wanted George for this duet, and of course he said yes (he was a fan like everyone else) but he later said he was super nervous because...it's Aretha! It went to #1 on Billboard which was only Aretha's second #1 hit EVER ("Respect" was the other one, of course).
Absolutely not a weird collaboration. George was coming off the heels of his massive success in Wham!. He was a new young hot artist that had excellent writing chops and a phenomenal voice. Aretha wanted to do this collaboration because she loved him and admired his song writing skills. In fact, she asked him to write and produce an album for her.
It's not a strange collaboration at all. Lots of younger artists love to collaborations with their favourite stars that were brilliant when they were younger
Great collaboration by these two. Both great vocalists in their own right. Aretha was known as the Queen of soul. Fitting. George Michael sang on American Idol years ago with laryngitis and sounded pretty darn good. One of the better pop vocalists of his day. You should check out Freedom 90 and Too Funky by George Michael.
Aretha is the godmother if not the mother of soul. She can’t be ranked. She was just too great to be limited by a number ❤. George was a G.O.A.T before he leveled up with this duet.
There's a couple that pops up on the montage. You should check them out. Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrel. Ain't No Mountain High Enough. Then, react to Marvin's What's Going On. The self-titled album is listed as the 2nd best album of all times next to the Beatles' #One Hits. It's an album that will stand the test of time! One Love ❤
HI GUYS! Your reactions are always really great, just… DON’T “limit” your thinking! “Really odd pairing”? Those are the BEST, most creative musical opportunities! YOU SHOULD REACT TO: FREDDIE MERCURY & MONTSERRAT CABALLÉ (Freddie Mercury’s of Queen, obv; Montserrat was a famous Spanish operatic soprano.) The two of them collaborated on an OPERATIC album - BARCELONA (also the title track) - which was co-written by Freddie. …This was actually the FIRST time a pair of professional musicians from two totally different music genres, collaborated on a cross-genre album together! When the album was first released, Pavarotti called it “the dumbing down of opera”. But then, the Barcelona album’s success is what prompted Pavarotti to start his own Pavarotti & Friends project.
Vocalist Female: Arthea Franklin, Whitney Houston, Barbara Streisand, Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion, Jennifer Holiday, Maria Carey, Lisa Fisher, Patti Labelle......Men: Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, George Michael, Freddy Mercury, Elliott Yamin, Luther Vandross, Johnny Gill, Babyface, Steve Perry, Michael MacDonald
React to Aretha Franklin's R.E.S.P.E.C.T., Natural Woman, Until You Come Back To Me, Ain't No Way, I Never Loved Another Man, Chain Of Fools, Think (part of the Blues Brothers soundtrack), Baby I Love You, Rock Steady, Spanish Harlem, Who's Zoomin Who, Jump To It, Freeway Of Love, Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves (duet with Annie Lennox of the duo Eurythmics), Freeway Of Love, Deeper Love and Jimmy Lee please.
Thus same producer had a run of hit songs. See who's zooming who by Aretha, how will I know by Whitney Houston and we don't have to take our clothes off by Jermaine Stewart. All songs have similar vibes.
Aretha Franklin is without a doubt the greatest singer of the past 60 yrs. She inspired a lot of great singers that came after her, including George Michael.
GEPRGE MICHAEL WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST SINGER / SONGWRITER FOR EVER❤

Love … Love George❤
George had a great live preformance in the 1991 Freddie Mercury Memorial Concert with the members of Queen, Find Me Someone to Love.
She also had the hit Jump To It.
Let us not forget George, Whoopie, Elizabeth Taylor, Lionel Richie & Eton John. It's here on UA-cam, check It out! 🥰🎶🎶🎶💖👏

I l goosebumps of this song
Way way high. Both of them. Just flawless...both of them.
I'm curious why you think this collab is weird, and this song was on Aretha's Album not George's.
Too young to understand anything
Such a great collaboration!! So awesome!!🔥🔥🔥
She was 45 and he was 23 when this was made.

She had #1 R&B song just prior to this with her Luther Vandross written and produced song Get It Right, and many hit songs throughout the 80s
@@mic1240 Of course, but when people talk about number one records, unless thet specify otherwise they're talking about the Hot 100
FYI the other couples on the screen behind them are other famous duet teams…..Marvin Gaye & Tammy Terrell, Sonny & Cher, and Ike and Tina Turner.

Aretha Franklin has been the queen of soul since the 1960s.
Another great collab of his os the cover of “As” with Mary J. Blogde!

Jimmy Lee, and Another Night by Aretha Franklin from the same time period…
