In the movie “demi-gods and semi-devils”- Jin Yong author. there is a Go scene where they have to solve a tsumego to become a successor of a very strong kungfu master. The tsumego name is exactly the same as you mention which requires a massive dead. One has to see beyond death in order to live! Amazing movie and so does your video!

I love Jin Yong. He is very famous here in Thailand. Demi-gods and semi-devils is the first place I heard about go.

This happens rarely in real games. But if it happens, it is a sure win (if you do know what to do ofc).

Seems to me like you must defeat this problem to stand a chance.

It's a 16 stones capture that does not give life, the record I know of is 18! (yes there is a known setup in which a 18 stone capture does not give life) see sensei library "largest capture that cant still live"

Your videos are so great. You made me laugh when you said all that was left was sadness haha.

I like watching your videos, I play chess and I make chess boards and pieces, but lately I'm fascinated with GO. I started a project to make an official GO board, but I have a question, what is the size of the squares of the official GO board? The stones I have and I know they are 22 mm.

The lines should be 1 mm thick and they should be 22 mm away from each other l/r and 23.7 mm away from each other top to bottom. The star points should have 4 mm diameter.

I'm very eager to learn, so I'm going to make a worthy GO board. Just like what I saw recently, with legs and 20 cm tall, made of solid wood, on UA-cam.

Didn't you say the first problem was unsolved for a long time? I am not going to say it is easy, but if I have enough time and know that there is a solution, I think I will eventually find it. After the first couple of moves it is a one-way street. So I cannot really believe it was unsolved for a long time. Or are there any tricky variations that have not been shown in this video?

The original problem is a whole board problem. It's too hard for me (3d) at least, but I don't know its early history.

i love these big sacrifice tsumegos even if the technique they require to solve is often fairly straightforward, they feel so stylish
