- Armed troops from the District of Columbia's National Guard arrived at the Capitol on Wednesday.
The Guardsmen, assigned to security duty on the U.S. Capitol Ground received approval Tuesday to carry weapons through a request from federal authorities and approved by Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy.
Up to 15,000 Guard members are expected to be on duty in coming days in the district to support law enforcement in connection with the January 20th inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.
Authorities are concerned about threats of violence, following the insurrection at the Capitol last week.

It’s just most the soldier don’t use them at all because you have to carry them all the time, it’s easier just to sleep on the floor

The floors in the capitol building of Oregon are marble and a heat system runs under them. I was shocked to hear about the egregious fact the our troops were treated so offensively! National guards don't get the same amount of training or preparation as the Army, Airforce, or Marines because they're still civilians. They don't do combat tours, and get several weeks of training per year.

Well, that's no surprise. The Capitol Building was also used as a makeshift hospital for wounded Union soldiers during the Civil War. Back then the building itself was undergoing construction with new additions to the building like for example the iconic dome and it all had to be finished under Abraham Lincoln orders. It is sad that there will be more National Guard troops there than people actually coming to see the event. If the new president is so afraid of the people that he was elected by that he needs 10’s of thousands armed guards then I feel we are in for a very bad future for our country.
