Hi, Ben. I’m the guy from Japan holding a salmon at 5:08. Love your video and the sarcasm 😂 Please let me know when you stop by Japan, will take you to nice fly fishing places.
I’m a BC born and raised Steelheader who moved to the lower South Island NZ 4 years ago. I can’t wait for you to come down here and fish. Totally different ball game down here and I’ll admit , it took me 2 seasons to fully adjust :) stay huge. Oh and yes, Brian Chan IS a god to us looool
Good and funny video Ben. I am from Europe and I found very interesting the wondering about Euro nymphing relevance you mentioned. I think that Euro-nymphing is fishing with a fly rod... But is it fly fishing??? (NB: very popular in my country of stinking cheese - guess where :))
Your domestic and international stereotypes crack me up. Brought my fly rod on a trip to Southeast Asia back in the late 90s. Didn't see too many bait, lure, or fly fishermen in the jungles of Thailand, Laos, or Vietnam, but we did see a guy on a river using dynamite. It was obvious the guy hadn't heard of nymphing before. ;)
Nice, South African boy here, my first was a Carp, but you're probably correct with the rainbow thing. Best fish in SA was a Tiger. I now hunt mostly Pike, with the odd session for Trout
An exchange student from Germany joined our California club for a year, and she simply could not believe that you could simply park by the side of the Sierra stream, walk down the path and start to fish. Totally pay-to-play in every square inch of Europe.
Hay Ben. Great video. I agree on your last comment on choosing which hand to real (i.e., as soon as I get a reel I reverse it to right handed). However, when I went to AK this summer switch them back to lefty because the rainbows were huge! Keep up the "no rules" mantra.
No mention of the Mongolian tourist trout? Taimen which are logs with fins and Lenok that come out to $3,400 per pound when all expenses are factored in. Iceland is also 'Pay to Play' heavy on the Pay scale. I've never been to Mongolia but have fished Iceland.
Think ,.wait, yeah you got met to Finnish my beer in 6min 31seconds the other ten was opening the fridge and popping the tab, to BURRRRppp ! Watch another vid of yours!
I know you skipped over part of Canada as sort of the great lakes area, but you can't forget about the wicked brook trout I'm the Canadian shield, northern Ontario and Quebec. Not to mention aurora trout, a sort of subspecies of brook trout that are only native in a handful of lakes, with a season every 3 years. Or the less known stillwater fish on the fly, lake trout with FULL sink in deep water. Also side note, Atlantic Canada has ocean run brook trout, it's kinda fun fishing off a warf catching stipped bass while trout fishing!
As a guide in Hokkaido Japan, I can confirm we have so much to offer for fly fisherman here in the land of rising trout haha! White spotted char, brown trout, rainbow trout, yamame, salmon, and the rare Ito (Japanese taimen) are just some of the awesome fish we find in our rivers here on the north island. If you are looking to make a trip to Hokkaido, track me down and I would love to show you a good time on the water!
Hey japanese guy a got a question for you. I know bass fishing is a big thing in japan but I always wondering what kind of predatory fish lived there before the introduction of bass.
@@FlyFishingChronicles Good question! We don't have bass fishing on the north island of Hokkaido though, so I will have to ask some Japanese friends to see what they say. As an American, I think of it like asking an Alaskan what the fishing is like in Missouri... same country, but very different environments. If I can track down an answer, I will be sure to share it you!

"Aussies who really want to fly fish for trout go to New Zealand" ... has been known 😉 (also reduces to competition on the waters here) Gareth and Tom will appreciate the recognition 👏
Going fly fishing today, Victoria Australia. If I fluke a six inch brown trout I will dance like ejit, but privately wish I was in NZ. Looks choice bro.
When you do US fly fishing stereotypes, don't forget Maine,. The still tie and use the old streamer patterns that were invented BEFORE tiers used vices. If you want to learn more call up the Rangeley Region Fly Shop in Rangle, ME.
Around the world that actually went out of the America's. That's not very American. Tom Jarmon on the Aussie stretch and Garth from trount hunting NZ on The NZ stretch. Both excellent you tube channels!
Dude you’re hilarious! I’m a Michigan guy that moved to Colorado over 20 years ago and having been around the country you nailed it on the US stereotypes and can only imagine that you’re not far off on the international community 😂😂
Great vid! Eu is really privatized place. You need to buy a license costing jillions to fish a half mile section of the river for one day. I am a kid so usually I just go out there and fish without a license sayin I am a poor kid living in the hood😂😂. (Got busted a few times but I don't care). It is amazing to catch brownies while blue lining. Love your stereotype vids!❤
The part about South Africa was overall scary accurate. Gotta say tho, for other South Africans, don't neglect kurper, even the little ones like Vlei and Canary kurper
Hey there,… Great video..! I’ve always wanted to say mostly what you’ve mentioned about Australia… not knowing what to name their species of fish… we all know what a Salmon is … at least here in America and most of Europe… but the Aussie Salmon is not even closely related to any Salmonid… and the call groupers … trout…. or sea cod And the Murray cod is actually a bass… pretty funny how this came to be….😂🤗🙃🤣
To confuse everyone further, the picture was a Threadfin Salmon not an Australian Salmon. All part of the Britains master plan the make convicts and colonists feel at home while being attacked by snakes and fighting bushfires.
masochist fishing in the jungle here... Look up Dorado fishing on the Secure, river looks like prime trout territory but surrounded by jungle and you're tossing 12in streamers into pocket water for 20-30lb fish that that jumps like a tarpon and WILL take a finger off when you try to get your fly back. They are in Argentina as well but that's big water. I'd go back to Argentina for Dorado, but I'd rather go to the PNW for steelhead than fish for browns in Patagonia again.
Out east in NB Canada we are now catching record sized musky, stripers and now browns and rainbows with big pickerel (no not what they call pickerel out west but actual pickerel like small pike) and smallies. We are starting to get some illegally stocked large mouths.
I hate NZ too. Mostly because of the Richard's from Houston who fish there and don't clean their waders and bring friggin snails to Wyoming! Clean your waders, get rid of the felt or just leave them in NZ.
Och aye? Scotland has some of the best trout fishing in the world. It’s not all 10”ers in the lochs. And lots of Scotland is 100% free to fish, not even a licence needed.
All the lols, as a saffa who fished all the oddities, and now resides along side the test river in the UN M, it’s pretty and all the rest of that shit, and seriously pay to play. Yeah I hate kiwis as well, mostly cause I am jealous AF! They are rad peoples tho.
I don't even fly fish I'm just here for the sarcasm.

Austria is even worse! $175 for a day is just insane!
not the netherland, 35 euro a year for the license and you can fish basically any water in the country. loads of people fishing in city centres etc
Totally not pay-to-play in most of Europe
Love it. Fly Fishing is a religion in New Zealand. Trout guides are treated like gods. Shout out to the boys at Sporting Life in Turangi
Terry from Nova Scotia.Love your observation vids.May your fly land where you want it and the branches stay out of your way.

There is a city pond the size of a bathtub, full of stockers, a block away. I refuse to fish it but there's 30 people there at any given time
Another masterpiece... ha, ha. I asked Ben to include Argentinian flyfishermen and he delivered!! Stay huge!!
Yeh we in Slovenia have some nice rivers but if you don't want pay 100$ for a day of fishing. I mean you can go bluelining for 15$ a day 🤷

From San Francisco 14 hours to Auckland
