- Just when the on-field drama of the football finally seemed to be eclipsing all else coming out of Qatar, the World Cup hosts back in the headlines for all the wrong reasons: Doha denies any part in the piles of cash uncovered by Belgian police or the arrests that include a vice-president of the European parliament. The greasing of the wheels came as the EU started to ponder visa-free travel to Qatari citizens. Why would the Gulf emirate even want the waiver?

Doubtful seeing how she's married to an Italian partner, and have a 2 year old son together, but that won't stop her from running away to become a Qatari citizen claiming diplomatic immunity from prosecution, along with her father, who was the only one caught with cash in a suitcase, on a train trying to get out of the country in a hurry.. Yes she had a lot of cash in her house, but nobody can prove it was hers, or that that she accepted it as a bribe.. But that's certainly not going to be easy thing to explain when you are on a government salary.

After the horrible 2010 Haiti earthquake, we in the Dominican Republic, saw the deep corruption of NGOs. The international community donated over $11 billion (essentially $1100 per capita for Haitians) and little to no of these funds ever went to the victims. Especially among this group, was the International Red Cross, which received almost $500 billion and only built eight flimsy shacks.
What most of NGOs functionaries did was to stay in posh Dominican hotels, enjoying great food and nightlife, while pushing a fake narrative of racism and mistreatment of Haitians. Dominican Republic actually received 1 million Haitians after the earthquake, essentially we took in 10% of our population in a matter of weeks, something no European nation ever did.
NGOs, were initially a good idea but corrupt people realized early on they could use them as a cloak to run a corporation, and often a racket, under the guise of something noble.

For the record, Lobbying = Corruption. This corruption case was about a third country exerting undue influence through bribery, lobbying is the exact same thing done by political interest groups and corporations.

As a Latin American living in Europe, it surprises me how here it is often expected that people will be honorable without controls. While I find that level of trust refreshing, it is also naive to expect that. At least this is my perspective as a foreigner, which is of course a partial view as I don't understand the culture fully.
I think the reason we are more trusting it is because there are entities and organizations who do oversight, more so than in other countries states. And let's face it... knowing about this, means something is at least working. If it wasn't, we wouldn't be hearing about it. Still, while unsurprised (money and power corrupt, even the best of us...), still dismayed by these news.

The EU has to be just about the biggest money laundering scheme ever devised.
To be a member and progress you have to forgo your own country and nationality in return you get paid a huge salary, a huge pension and many perks. To keep these you mustn’t even criticise the EU but support it in all of its endeavours to create a federal Europe.
The money seems endless as the taxpayers are systematically milked for the benefit of those on the gravy train.
If all this effort and money is being spent you have to ask yourself the question “Who is really going to benefit from this in the long run ?”.

Qatar was clearly emboldened by its success in buying the World Cup from FIFA so of course it adopted what proved to be a very effective mechanism in order to further its objectives in terms of easier visa access into Europe. One of the hallmarks of the Qatari approach is to target representatives of financially weak countries and in this case, those were Italy and Greece.
