At that time, Singapore was a poor and underdeveloped country with few natural resources. However, under the leadership of Lee Kuan Yew, the government implemented a series of policies aimed at promoting economic growth and development.
These policies included attracting foreign investment, developing key industries such as electronics and petrochemicals, and creating a skilled workforce. The government also invested heavily in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, which helped to improve the standard of living for Singaporeans.
As a result of these efforts, Singapore has become one of the wealthiest countries in the world, with a highly developed economy and a high standard of living. However, in recent years, Singapore has faced some challenges, including a rapidly aging population and a slowdown in economic growth. Singapore is known for its cleanliness and excellent public transport and social harmony. Chinese, Malay and Indian people live here in peace. The government make sure to respect everybody's religion, language and race. Everyone has house and employment. The working class has it's own spine to earn their roti through their roji.
Lee Kuan Yew was great admirer of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. To understand the development of Singapore one needs to read his book Singapore story.

I Live in Singapore and I don't think it has dark secret. Its an excellent democratic and secular country, Rajive Malhotra gave example of Singapore style of democratic country where you have option to choose government but not deciding what government should do, everyday.
Like you do not have voting for cooking at home mom makes what she think is good for everyone. Same way LKY did implemented his vision and pulled country out of poverty.
Shutting down communist/socialist at that point in time was important and LKY did that. He was one in a generation leader and India has one now. Lets see how we deal with him.
