Finely found this in the US. And it is as described, best coconut rum on the market. Full 80 proof. Bottle seems to have shrunk to 700 ML., which is disappointing. But it makes a lovely daquiri, and tradewinds old fashioned (truffles on the rocks) I have some of my own Coconut infusions started with Barbados rum to see if I can clone a "close enough version" for when my wife gets mad at me buying too many bottles of rum. Great episode.
It could well be. Can’t get Shipwreck here in the UK. But something about it and from what I’ve read, it’s pretty similar to Koko Kanu from Wray. If it is a similar style, then that Plantation Cut and Dry is TOTALLY different.
If ever you are in Barbados check out the Stades Rum experience at the distillery. You get to try 4 of their rums ( including the Cut and Dry 😊) on their deck on the beach. Truly awesome experience with very knowledgeable and accommodating staff.
This looks delicious, seeing the preview for this video I picked up a bottle of Florida’s Siesta Key Toasted Coconut Rum which has been on my list for awhile. It is delicious as well if you are in the states.
Siesta Key is the absolute best! Plantation turns me off a bit with all their "dosage" AKA adding sugar/additives, where as Siesta Key toasts their own coconuts and hence uses real, all-natural coconut. They also refrain from adding gauche marketing mythology and fictional narratives to their bottles.
I was in Sarasota last year and stopped by the distillery and pick up a few bottles off the floor. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to do a tour or look around.
Back from Barbados this week and picked this up at the airport. Barman recommended I got some as had been drinking it locally. Glad I did now. It's bloody good
I'm fairly sure I've never seen this one here, though we do get such a ton of Plantation that I wouldn't be surprised. And from that reaction, I know I have to try! Hopefully, more and more coconut trees in the future! Thanks for this Steve!
Hey Steve great review! Unfortunately, can’t get it unless your in Barbados. I was wondering if you could recommend an alternate (I’ve heard of Coconut Cartel and Koloa Kuai Coconut Rum but not to sure if you’ve reviewed them)
Off to the 2022 RumFest this october 15 & 16. Plantation are regulars there, although the list of producers have not yet been supplied. Fingers crossed they will have this rum, even if only as a taster rum on their stand.
You need to help them invest in more coconut trees…there simply ain’t enough coconuts on the island to make this a proper Rum. However, another version is coming to market. And it’ll build up over time. But you have to remember. It’s made from Coconuts. Not coconut flavour compounds like every other Coconut Rum.
I'm guessing the UK doesn't get Clement's "Mahina Coconut Rhum Liqueur" either. They also soak fresh coconut in their rum, but because it's an agricole rhum, some of that grassy rhum flavor comes through. Great stuff, and available in the U.S. at least.
@@StevetheBarmanUK it’s their 94 proof made for mixing drinks. The black label is 70 proof and they have it for shots. The white label mixed with some coke is my go to drink.
I’m so confused. Right in the US, kraken is 47% ABV (94% proof) as standard. The UK it’s 40% ABV (80 Proof). In the UK, We had a White bottle some years ago (2019), but it was just the standard 40% ABV in a limited edition Bottle. To my knowledge, Kraken have never made a 35% Liqueur strength version for any market, cos legally it’d have to be 40% ABV in the US to even have Rum on the Label. So if there is a 35% ABV version, it’s surely not Rum. It’s a Spirit Drink (or liqueur depending on Sugar levels).
I've had it a few times a my local tiki bar is almost exclusively plantation. It's the best coconut rum ever made. Period. Ill trade anyone a bottle of my single cask el salvador exclusive to the Devil's Reef for one in a heartbeat. Need to know someone in Barbados
ha, as i say in the video, there's like a 5% chance of it being a general release! The only way to do it will be to import Coconuts... which is kinda the opposite thing to what they're trying to do with the Rum!
@@StevetheBarmanUK really such a low chance? 😅😢 I do have some hopes, as it's not branded like other limited releases from plantation with the year of the bottling. And with such a long time of testing out the fomula they better make use of it😛
As i said in the video. The whole premise about this Rum is Using Barbadian Coconuts and Barbadian Rum. 1 coconut = 1 litre of rum. There simply isn’t enough Coconut Trees in Barbados to make this a permanent thing… There isn’t enough to fulfill a Barbados Market, let alone a UK market! Now add US, Europe, Australia etc. Unless as i said, the scrap the Barbados thing, and import Coconuts from all over the world.
I think this would become their big seller by a mile if it ever was a permanent stock. I mean it’s Coconut Rum for Rum lovers. Not A sweet Coconut Rum. Don’t get me wrong I love Koko Kanu, but it’s a totally different style of Coconut Rum. Like Plantation Pineapple is different to RedLeg or other Pineapple Flavoured Rums.
There are rumours that it’ll become a permanent release. But if you listened to the Video, you’ll understand why it’s currently only available in Barbados only…

I just got a bottle today here in the US and can't wait to crack it open.
It is now available worldwide as Planteray Cut and Dry … I just bought a Bottle today here in Germany 😉

I’m sold! Shipwreck coconut rum is the best coconut rum I’ve had so far but this sounds like a new king.

No probs Peter. Hope you’re well?

Brilliant video and review. This rum looks so good and would love to give it a go some day. Cheers and thanks for sharing. 🥥🥃👍
Thanks for watching Ray. It’s a belter.

I can sense a Coconut Rum Project coming soon! 😂
I've been meaning to pick up a bottle of that also. Might have to finally do it this week.
@@timmarkley9309 It probably deserves better but it makes a killer Rum and Coke

Whispers are it’s coming back. 🤞 But if you run out…and although it’s spiced…Canerock does have a big Plantation Coconut vibe. So a good fallback.
Coconuts are my favorite food, i would love to try this some day.
Thanks for sharing
Cheers
Coconut Rum has to be the best flavour of Rum in my book. Amazing.

No you won't have seen it. It's only 6 weeks old if that...and Barbados only... at the moment.
Great video Master Barman !
Thank you kind sir. You shall be ever known as Triple T! (Probs not the first time you’ve heard that! 🤦♂️)
Finally got a bottle of this!!! Will be drinking in the next few days and serve suggestions?
Soo it neat. Don’t waste it!
*Sip even!

Haha, yeah as much as I'd love to see that happen, I very much doubt it. If word got out they had a few bottles, the show would go mental!
Sounds super interesting. Definitely adding to the list to unicorns to find.
*Googles “Barbados PenPals”* 😂
We need this one in our homes!
Yup. Massively.
Wow awesome review, I don't think I'll see some of this in my local, or who knows, it may show up one day, and the day it does, SWIPE!!
One day mate... fingers crossed
Alternatively you can steep some fig leaves in rum. The leaves has a green coconut flavor. Makes a great Daiquiri
I get plantation in Nevada at the local total wine but I didn't see coconut when I went to pick up a bottle of coconut rum today.
Ha, and you’ll get why if you watch the video 👍
Makes me sad 😢 that it'll never get to taste this .....🤞please Plantation bring this to the mainstream
Fingers crossed. One day.
Fuck me that sounds glorious! I love what plantation did with the pineapple infusion, can't believe this isn't of global availability!

No, I’ve seen it on Insta Feeds, but never in real life. Sounds interesting though. Deffo my kinda thing!!
Sounds delicious. I wonder if it's available in the United States
Afraid not. It’s what I said in the video, it’s Barbados only at the moment.
Guess I know where I'm flying next (aside from Cuba)
I wish I new where in the USA to buy most of their line, they released a 1984 40y Jamaican and I can’t find it anywhere but on a scam

Can’t wait to try it. Also I’m surprised you don’t have a bottle of white label Kraken on the shelf.
What is this white lable Kraken?! We had a limited bottled design a few years back. But it was just normal Kraken…in a different bottle.

I Just picked up some MUR MUR coconut rum. No You-Tube reviews. Does anyone have an opinion on it?
5:30 can we also pester Maison Ferrand to stop standing in the way of a Barbados Geographical Indication?
