I had one and couldn't play it... you need to be a trumpet and trombone player to play piccolo since everything is two octaves higher. Have a soprano as well and couldn't really play it either except for the lower notes.
The argument has reasons 1: The mouthpieces from trumpet and soprano trombone are the same 2: The pitches and key are the same However, trumpet bells are farther than all of the tubing. Trombone bells aren't .
SasukeUchiha 2002 So a trombone and a baritone are the same too by the mouthpiece logic; And the reality comes in that the two instruments aren't built the same at all, aside from the reciever and the size of the bell's flare, the instruments' dimensions are incredibly different, Sops have little to no leadpipe (even with custom fits) a ton of cylindrical tubing then the short bell. A trumpet has a long leadpipe,a decent amount of cylindrical tubing and a long bell. Long story short, the timbres are completely different, its obvious when you put the right mouthpiece on the sop
i think it's kinda funny how a piccolo trombone naturally the trombone being a larger instrument than the trumpet the piccolo trombone is smaller than a pocket trumpet
Sebastian Kirschner A pocket trumpet is the same tubing length as a normal trumpet just wrapped more tightly. The piccolo trombone is more like a piccolo trumpet, which is tiny too.
At my school my instructor happened to have two pocillo trombones me already being one of the very few trombone players at my school one day asked if I would be able to play the piccolo trombone in songs that have the instrument in it in band if I learned how to use it and he said I would be able to do I stayed every day after school for an hour to learn how to play the piccolo and if there is now a song that needs a piccolo trombone I get to play it :P
As a trombone player, this is cool to watch. I am still early in my career and seeing these kinds of trombones is really cool. The small ones are funny. They’re like trumpets but trombones at the same time. The piccolo is just ridiculous though lmao
Nice showcase of the Trombone in its many shapes and sizes! As a regular Tenor Trombone player I will soon be finding a nice Soprano Trombone under the tree. How is the embouchure changing between each instrument?
dctpbpenn I know I'm a bit late but I play tenor and recently bought a soprano. It's not that bad of an adjustment you just have to get used to the shorter slide and smaller mouthpiece
It is very nice to finally see videos about the piccolo trombone and the contrabass trombone and the G bass trombone. But my main thought (and my professor's too) when watching your videos is 'Why bother buying all that rather expensive equipement instead of focussing on 1 or 2 of the trombones?'. I think the world is more interested in very good videos like for example videos with nice played contrabass trombone pieces (we really need such videos). Or why not make a video with the G bass trombone? There is just 1 one on youtube now, and it is horrible! Also, I think your sound on the contrabass and bass trombone will not improve when playing on the alto or soprano trombone. Just as playing bass trombone is not helping to sound better on the alto trombone. They are completely different instruments with a totally different approach. Sure it is nice to have such a rare instrument, but are they really worth the effort and costs if the sound is bad, and the articulation even worse, thus making them useless to play with in an ensemble? Just my thought of the day. I did not mean to offend you at all, just trying to share my opinion on this with you.
Hey, thanks for your comment. Most of my trombones are cheap Chinese made trombones. My contrabass was reasonably expensive, around $1400 USD, my bass trombone was second hand, and was in need of repair, so I got that cheap, and all the rest cost me less than $150 USD each. When it comes to trombones, I like collecting. I'm not a professional musician, so it gives me more enjoyment to play around with different instruments than what it does to specialise in just one or two.
The one video on UA-cam is pretty bad like you said. At least he tried. 366 views also shows those trombones died down in popularity probably because they didn't sound pretty. The newer tenor trombones sound great unlike the new plastic trombones.
Hey Trent! I've been playing mostly woodwind instruments, but I'm planning on learning either trumpet or trombone. Do you have any tips for a starting brass player?
No offense but you don't sound as good on the Bass in G. I don't know if it's cuz of the brand you're using but I've actually never seen a Bass Trombone in G
Yeah, the slide is about 1/3rd longer than a normal slide, and I had some troubles finding the right place for the positions. It also has an incredibly small bore, which takes some getting used to. Check out this video here for more info on the G Bass Trombone: ua-cam.com/video/mZDfywFZ5w0/v-deo.html
Jacob Carter The bore of a G Bass is very small in comparison to the length of pipe... the result is that the instruments can be very stuffy. It's pitched lower than a standard bass bone yet shaves about .15 " off the bore.... there's good reason why they went out of production, they can be pigs to play.
we watched this in school and omarion said to me jeez natalee give us a worning! because to him it sounds like fart noses I laugh at him all the time even if he asalts me with words
There's no such thing in the trombone family. Also, this video shows all the members "that I have" of the trombone family. I haven't forgotten anything as I included all the members "that I have". :)
Trent Hamilton Given that there is such a thing as an FFF Tuba..... I suppose some trombone maker with either a sense of humour or possibly a death wish could make a subcontra trombone in F (4th down from your BBb) , but with a Bore over 0.600 and a 14 inch bell... I'm not playing it. LOL .....although probably more playable than it's tuba counterpart. 24 feet of pipe...yeesh
It sorta like the contrabass trombone is the dad, the bass trombone is the mom, and the tenor and alto are the middle child, and the soprano and piccolo is the baby.
It really doesnt the more you mature on your instrument. They tell you not to puff ur cheeks when you start playing because it can affect your emobochure.

I got now the bass, large-bore tenor, small-bore tenor, alto and 2 sopranos (to make a recording, I had to buy a new soprano, as the slide of the other one didn't seem to move easily enough to play in tune...). Cool toys :-D

Ah the high trombones, the tuning nightmare that is the picc, and the soprano thats gets people arguing that its a slide trumpet....
The argument has reasons
1: The mouthpieces from trumpet and soprano trombone are the same
2: The pitches and key are the same
However, trumpet bells are farther than all of the tubing. Trombone bells aren't .

If youtube recommended it to you, then be happy, because otherwise you couldn't listen to that piccolo, which is so SWEET.
Dude, that was seriously sick seeing that low and high of a trombone versus my normal one.
piccolo trombone sounds like something straight outta animal crossing

No, you play tenor as well. His tenor simply has what's known as an F attachment where as yours is what's known as a "straight tenor".
