Hoppes #9 does a great job of cleaning out that gunk in the motor with a q-tip

Good tip. I believe I have some of that.

Was there something wrong with the existing bearings? The engine looked pretty clean.

You don't replace bearings based on what they LOOK like, but what the feel and sound like.

Have you got the bearing numbers, I usually go to the bearing shop and they measure them, but on the SC engine exploded, they give the bearing numbers, which makes ordering easier. Can't find the OS numbers anywhere...

Sorry. No I don't have that information. I simply order bearing from Brant on eBay. He has all prepackaged bearings for most engines.

@@dmrcflyr2 he has no stock in at the moment. Stripped mine down. Have a new piston ring as the engine wouldn't start and the piston ring had lost its springyness. Will get bearings on Friday after work

How do I set the timing on my OS single cylinder engine?
We recommend you send your engine in for service rather than attempting to set the timing yourself.
However, if you're REALLY comfortable working on engines, these steps will allow you to set the timing. If you are unsure how to complete any one of these steps, we caution you against disassembling your engine and recommend instead that you send it to our warranty and service center for non-warranty repair.
The proper way to set the timing in all O.S. single-cylinder engines with the front camshaft is:
Rotate engine so that the piston is at Top Dead Center.
Locate the timing mark on the side of the cam gear.
Insert the cam gear so that the timing mark is in a direct line with the center of the cam followers and the centerline of the pushrods. It is NOT at a 90 degree angle to the crankshaft. The angle will be slightly back.
Replace the cam cover and you're ready to go!

Was everything clean inside the engine after the run with the Cool Power fuel?

That engine was pristine when I looked it over prior to the 30 size shootout and it still looks pristine now. You should have seen the top of the piston in this video, time index 2:30. The Cool Power had no effect on the cleanliness of this engine. It takes a gallon or more before the piston starts to get dark on a four stroke engine. This engine has only had about 5 tanks of fuel through it since I bought it. I wouldn't expect it to be anything but pristine.

You stopped the engine by disconnecting the fuel line. Was there any fuel or oil inside the engine, when you disassembled it?

    • @dmrcflyr2
      @dmrcflyr2  7 років тому

U Me There was residual oil but no fuel. That is the purpose of stopping the engine in that manner.
