Welcome to the new series! It's already starting out great... I hope you guys enjoy. We'll have testing episodes every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday throughout November and December, so make sure to tune in!
A friend of my son came over one day and had a bunch of games that were in pretty rough shape! Half of them didn't work so I had an idea I had some scratch X clear coat scratch remover for cars... gave all the games a good polishing and to our surprise it fixed all of them except one ...not bad!
Processing fee? It's bad enough that the sales tax isn't included in the price in the US but a shop that charges you to buy one of their items is ludicrous. I can see now why America is called "the land of the fee".... 😂
Not sure if you know, but that controller has 3 modes: digital (led off), analog (red led) and Flightstick (green led) which emulates the Playstation Analog Joystick, and works great with games designed for the Analog Joystick. Great find!
@@christianteen2008 In a nutshell: SCPH-1010 - original PSX controller without analog sticks SCPH-1080 - same as above with longer cable and noise filter SCPH -1150 - Dual Analog controller with analog concave sticks and 3 modes: digital (off), analog (red) and joystick (green). I believe this as a prototype. SCPH-1180 - same as above but released without vibration motors. This is the one in the video. SCPH-1200 - Dual Shock controller, the one we all know, with convex sticks, 2 vibration motors, and 2 modes: digital (off) and analog (red).
@@christianteen2008 PS1 had DualShock technology towards the middle of it's life-cycle in November 1997. Some games, such as Resident Evil 2, had DualShock versions released, but not many. Most games came with DualShock compatibility after that and pretty much all consoles sold new had DualShock controllers after 1998.
Yeah, and this is actually a common occurrence with consoles/DvD players that have the retention spring tops, which most kept closed during the majority of the time to keep the disk area clean. It binds the tension spring so it only pops the lid about half to 3/4 of the way open, if it's that big of an issue it's an easy fix just open the PS2 up by taking the top half of the body off and pulling the tension spring out and pulling the two ends further apart than they are and putting it all back together, problem solved. but not really worth the wasted time for such a minuscule issue though.
There is a spring mechanism that pops the lid up when you hit the eject button. The fact that it doesn’t open all the way, means they didn’t oil the spring. It isn’t “broken” or pointing it out as a “fault”.
i think thats the first analog controller that came in the ps1 in japan, Dual analog controller, the diference between this dual analog and the dualshock was that the dual analog had vibration finding one in that condition is REALLY rare
Living the dream, travel shopping for games with friends, staying in hotels playing ps2 on the way. This is what life is about, great video as always :)
Goo gone is the best I’ve found to get stickers off. Even those ancient GameStop stickers that are dried out. It can soften them up so they can be scrapped off.
I noticed during c-19 lots of people "cleaned" like that just leaving a ton of chemical residue on everything 24/7. Instead of actually wiping it clean.
They do make labels that are specifically made for games or cases and the sort. Theyre good and the adhesive is good to where it doesnt damage when you remove them
Not going to name the store but yeah that Richmond store isn’t my favorite either. They’re generally nice folks, but their prices have always been too high for me, and their buy in process left me feeling weird. Haven’t really shopped there since, but the arcade is cool.
Great video. I usually hit up Old Skool in Hampton and Chesapeake for all my stuff. I’d love to get another PS2. My old one got shipped to her family in the Philippines when I migrated to next gen consoles. If I knew then what I know now. I guess that’s why antiques end up going up in value after they become worthless for a few years though.
I'm in the UK and game collecting here is so much different than in the US. I wish it was more like it is over there, I'd love that. Looking forward to seeing that huge lot soon
You can use isopropyl alcohol to clean off the sticker residue, just be careful around the cards own label because it will affect it too. I'd get a wash cloth damp with the ipa and dab the sticker until it is saturated and gently start scrubbing it off, you could also try peeling what's left, with a little persistence it should all come off just fine.
Not only did Jacob R make an awesome new series, There's also a awesome mega haul intro to practice your opera music skills, you can't get any better than 10 star reviews of shady condition consoles, games from manufacturers and the best intro themes on the planet 😎😊
I read somewhere on line that there was various types of lasers put inside the ps2 and depending on generation some could read the different disks while others couldn’t there was 2-3 different types of disks used (silver, blue, black)
A product that might help to stuck on left over stickers is Goo Gone. Use a cloth that has been dipped into goo gone and try rubbing the spot where the sticker was. I wouldn't have used that disc in my ps2 system until I cleaned that disc.
Another mega haul series? We're eating well this whole November and December. I'm so excited! This + Smokin' Silicon are awesome. Any chance you'll be running Hampton Haul shirts like you did with Texas Load?
I live in Richmond and Tech exchange is a very solid store. Also quick question what was Game stop known as before they became game stop? You should do a history of Funco Land.
FYE is an acronym for “For Your Entertainment.” There was one in my local mall, and they priced themselves out of business. On average, they were charging at least 15% more than other stores selling the exact item.
The soundtrack jrob used for the first 4 minutes of the video sounds kinda like the mappa ranma 1/2 ost when a fight happens, but that's just my imagination yk
79001 slims ribbion is clipped to the console, which does not scratch the discs. The other models had issues with the ribbon coming unglued and scratching discs. Also, the slims had so many issues, unlike the fat ps2.
sticker crap removal.... buy Rapid remover. it's expensive (for what it is) but, is the stiff I used in my sign shop to remove old stickers and the glue left behind. it doesn't hurt plastics or paint. it's the fastest goo remover I've ever had and it works perfectly. it's about 30 dollars for 1 squirtbottle. but you don't need that much for each use. I bought a gallon of it once every 2 to 3 years and we used it on every sign, car, window lettering removal so we clime replace our rework/replace lettering or decals. it's absolutely the best at reliving the gunk from stickers or vinyl.
All slim PS2 read blue CDs what problem is going on that the laser is probably weak you have to recalibrate the optical laser there's two screws on the back one is for DVD and one is for CDs
My PS2 Slim doesn't open all the way with the trigger. I have to lift it the rest of the way. There's a disc brake built in that stops the disc spinning when you open the lid. And there's a catch inside to keep the lid from flying up at full force and breaking off. I don't know about the disc polish, but somebody should have buffed it away before trying to play it. You ran a risk of killing that PS2 if that goop was still fluid. Sensitive electronics, guy.
Yay, you got RSOD'ed! Though what's to be expected when someone outs random polish onto a disc? You're supposed to actually clean the disc and remove all of the polish, not just leave the polish on the disc...
bro gamestop employees are mad anoying, i was looking in the XBOX section looking for a XBOX controller and i saw one that had what i was looking for (it was like those paper things that say what the controller is) and they said they have none in stock so they brought some out by the same brand and i use my CHRISTMAS MONEY TO GET A 100 DOLLAR CONTROLER THAT WASNT EVEN COMPATIBLE WITH XBOX. They came up and talked to me while i was talking about xbox controllers and they still gave me a pc controler and didnt tell me, so i literally got scammed.
1:09 two things about this bother me. 1 why would you still call it refurbished if it's a ps2? everything you get is refurbished, name of the game when stuff is not in production anymore. 2 you paid 160? YO that is so high to me. not sure how retro gaming is now but you could probably buy it for 40 refurbished at any pawn shop.
I don’t know if you know this, but if you turn a ps2 on its side (or upside down) with a blue disc in it reads better. I do this with my copy of Ford Racing 2 I think it has something to do with the weight of the disc
my super slim reads black disks without a problem. well, apart from the one that i need to get fixed because that baby is so scratched it will never have an itchy back ever again.

The lid not popping open all the way is normal for ps2 slims. Mine has always done that.

yeah same here. if anything i think that silver slim opened it further than what is normal.

When they replace the laser, they often use a version that cannot read blue (or often yellow) discs.

Un-do works also great.
So basically, the retro game collector market is just resellers selling to other resellers.
