I cannot stress how important it is to listen to Tool with headphones on. The mixing is almost its own instrument, and makes the music feel like a living thing
Schism means separate or division - and Tool is saying you have to be able to communicate with one another to make the relationship work otherwise it's doomed to fail. Great reaction!! Would recommend you check out the song Right in Two it's a very deep and powerful song.
and if you want to add the religious connotation, the great schism was when the Eastern Churches separated from the Catholic church, all because of lack of communication and understanding. And the Protestant reformation
The fact you figure these songs out right away makes me feel stupid. I usually have to listen to Tool songs several times to get what da hell he's talking about. Love you guys! Always excellent reactions from you both.
I’m going to have my wife watch this reaction with me cause you broke it down perfectly and we both need to hear this and you guys breakdown as well that I think could really help us right now, tough times but Thank you both so much, it was like listening to this song for the first time again. 🥲 Blessings from Texas🙏
Yep from soundscape to lyrics to visuals to the live performance being all about the visuals and not about the people themselves. Absolute title of artists.
@@crystalscolza1663 Absolutely, but it’s worth noting that Tool had an upper hand in the visuals starting with the videos because Adam actually quit a lucrative Hollywood special effects career to do Tool full time…not that they wouldn’t have developed the visual edge anyway since Adam had the desire to work with awesome artists like Cam de Leon (despite legal disputes), Chet Zar, and most enduringly Alex Grey and then tastefully weave those into sort of representing the sound.
@@spooderman8064 yeah, i hate to say it, but that perspective that many Tool fans have, namely shunning other great bands/artists, is why we get a bad rep.
I find this song goes deeper than a breakup. I think it is broader commentary on our failure as a species. Communication breaks down and it falls to anger and harsh words and social stigmatizing of each other. I think that's why brothers appears, both for the context of a lack of communication tearing a family apart, but how we are all a few generations away from being related, but treat other human beings as distant strangers at best or outright enemies at worst. The concept of silence becoming a lack of compassion speaks heavily on the current society, honestly.
Glad to see you back on Tool, reactions Mr. & Mrs. Sippington! Be sure to put "Right in Two" into your Tool rotation. Love your breakdown, Mrs. I had an edible so I'm sipping on seltzer. Cheers!
I wanna hang out with you two. You are so even keeled and cool. Been a Tool fan almost since the beginning, so it is fun to see new listeners hear what they have to offer.
Oh wow! You guys are back reacting to Tool. I haven’t checked up with you guys in a long time, I think the first time I came across your guys channel it was like pre-covid. I use to work the graveyard shift and watching you guys do your reaction made the shift go by easier, lol. Love your reactions, have a great one, guys! 🎸
Great reaction 🙂 Between supposed brothers/lovers.... I see it as ' we're together because we love each other enough we are family, but we were lovers first. Now we're about to lose both if we don't talk'
A schism is a split or division between parties... Tool's singer Maynard James Keenan wrote the song about his frustrations at the time, why Tool was unable to get their act together back in 1999/ 2000 and finish a new record (They released this album in 2001). It's no secret now that the musicians in Tool (Guitarist Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey & bassist Justin Chancellor) take a LONG time to finish writing music for a Tool album (Fans had to wait 13 years for the latest album 'Fear inoculum' in 2019)... Back in the 90's, Tool had 2 platinum records under their belt and by 1999, there were a lot of legal problems in the Tool camp w/ their label and contracts. Maynard had hoped a new album would have materialized by then, but he was left sitting out and frustrated by the lack of progress... the others kept jamming and nothing was happening. In 2000, Maynard joined forces w/ guitarist Billy Howerdel and recorded the debut album 'Mer de Noms' by A Perfect Circle, and the record went platinum as the band went on tour... That caused some more uncertainty in the Tool camp as the members were not talking w/ each other. Finally, the music was finished and Maynard was able to add his lyrics and vocals for the album in 2001... The album 'Lateralus' was released 5 years after the 1996 album 'Aenima'... Tool were not sure they even had an audience by that point. Incredibly, the fans jumped in droves to buy the new record and it went to #1 on the charts and is their biggest selling record to date. But the issues that Maynard outlined in 'Schism' still dog Tool to this day... 13 years to make the 'Fear inoculum' record did frustrate Maynard... he worked on a new A Perfect Circle record, a new Puscifer record, and various other interests while Tool were not touring...
Tool is an emersive experience. Maynard James Keenan is a musical genius. He’s also in a couple of other bands that are awesome. Check out Perfect Circle and Puscifier. Schism is a split or division between strongly opposed sections or parties, caused by differences in opinion or beliefs. It kind matches where we are in our current history. I’d say right now we are in a schism of epic proportions!
First time watcher. I listen to several couples and it is really remarkable how, when it’s a male and female, it’s almost always the female partner who “gets it”. You two are no exception. Good job, Steph!
Maynard said in the Beato interview that he actually perfects songs during post-recording performances. Though aloof at first, he's a big ball of emotion and his live vocals can't help but show it.
I totally agree with Steph's interpretation here. I've always seen the lyrics as in a general sense, that they explore the fundamentals of the human experience that give rise to all contrived situations.
Looks like you guys are sweating. Hope the light shining on you guys in your studio isn’t too hot or bright for u. I don’t mind a video with soft or intimate lighting. Either way, I like the channel.
I'm a little late to y'all's (yes, that's a word in Texas) channel. Have you heard Parabol and Parabola? Those two really put into perspective what Tool is really about. Depth and true musicianship...unless you'd like to check out Lateralus, which is the crux of the entire album. It unabashedly displays the Fibbonacci sequence, which is relevant throughout the album. I really hope you listen to those. It would be cool to see your perspective because I definitely enjoyed this one.
I never put it together until this reaction. You guys brought light to the ending of the song. It just stopped. That will be how we end if we don't start finding a middle ground as a collective people. We will just end.
You always do a good job in your videos, my friends. But let me give you some advice. I don't want to seem obsessed but I guess someone will have already told you: to really listen to TOOL it is important to have headphones. It may seem like an exaggeration but trust me ... It is necessary. Otherwise you risk losing much of the experience.
Love the breakdown on the lyrics, to me you hit the nail on the head, would love to see your input on "the patient" if you havnt already...gonna creep thru chanel and se what's up subscribe button smashed!
Great analysis. The schism here can be metaphorical, but the primary meaning here is about the 3000+ different sects of Christianity (and religion in general), none of which can seem to agree on which one is right (and wrong) and causes the multitude of religious hate and wars throughout the millenia.

schism means a deep division...a split...between 2 opposing sides. For example, currently, there is a schism between Democrat and Republican ideology. Does that make sense?

Collectively, Tool is one of the few musical groups that can actually claim the title of "Artists" Their music is spiritual medicine.
I’ve been a total Toolnut since Aenima's release. They’re in my top 5 but there are so many other bands and artists who are also great.
