Debs death hit harder in my opinion, just the way he unplugged the life support and u saw the exact moment when she left. Rita’s death didn’t really feel real.
IMO they killed rita for the exact same reason they killed doakes. dexter was struggling to decide between killing and his family, so the writers bailed him out by killing her, just like they bailed him out with lila.
