  • Isis is our newest inmate - she is only 4 and didn't actually make it to the track as they just couldn't make her go apparently. That's great for us...we like the rubbish ones. We are starting her slowly as she is still a baby really - this little mare has shown no fear in anything we have asked of her so far.

    All our race horses (at my work) are ridden in all purpose saddles and trained in basic dressage/flat work, taken on bush rides and beach rides. They're all super horses that all have a guaranteed life after racing :)

    Isis was an Egyptian goddess and also the ancient Egyptian word for "throne" 😃

    Quiet, relaxed, nice use of voice, and keeping it brief without asking too much. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Looks like you gained her trust pretty quick. Nicely done! 👍

    Hi so we are new to ex racers how should we stop / stand them differently to a riding school horse where we are taught to pull on reins?

    • @spirtsubliminals
      @spirtsubliminals 2 роки тому

      They are taught the opposite of any other horse they are taught the harder u pull on the rains the faster they go I have a ex race horse and stopping them can be challenging It’s good to teach them to stop to you’re voice instead of pulling on the rains

    Love it

  • @Arborwaychet
    @Arborwaychet 5 років тому +1

    You need to become aware of the power of lateral flexion / groundwork to move the hip and the 'one rein stop' ... when you walked that mare off she could have done anything ... yes she was calm and not 'braced up' but do a few and you will quickly find one that is. Also rub don't pat pat the horse ... and give up the hand treats ... if you can get the horse yielding the hip and with a good lateral rein you have a chance of controlling one even if they get explosive.

    • @equidance3338
      @equidance3338 4 роки тому

      Arborwaychet thanks but I will continue to do things the way that works for me

    • @justinneill5003
      @justinneill5003 Рік тому

      The one rein stop is basically a panic mode stop, not recommended except for emergencies, as it brings the horse to an unbalanced stop and the energy to go forward is still there as soon as you release. I don’t think it will bolt very far in the school. I also doubt if this horse is familiar with leg yielding or other basic dressage elements, which would create unnecessary confusion at this point. I think this girl is doing everything right, keeping things simple, light and quiet at this early stage.

    Gobby? Swishy? Can someone translate please?

    • @ottch8670
      @ottch8670 4 роки тому +3

      Hi Patricia, Gobby is an english term to mean mouthy that is the horse is perhaps chewing on the bit, locking her jaw against the bit or just unsettled in her mouth maybe needing her teeth checked and is very common in young horses.
      Swishy she is swishing her tail it is usually a sign on tenseness in the horses back because she may be unsure about what she is doing and has become a little nervous also very common in young horses, both these things I would expect from a young ex racer on their first ride, but as Kelly said very pleasing attitude from this young mare, lovely horse.

    Role your stirrups up

    • @my_bay_jed5509
      @my_bay_jed5509 5 років тому +2

      Nathalie Brooke lunging horses like this with your stirrups down gets them use to having things clank around on them and desensitises them :)

    • @ottch8670
      @ottch8670 4 роки тому

      I lunge all my off the trackers without stirrups for the first week then they have to get used to them bouncing around on them a great way to desensitize them, my leg is not perfect so they need to be used to things touching their sides

      Wtf nothing wrong with that name???

    • @fatcat749
      @fatcat749 5 років тому

      Owner probably didn't know the name derives from worshipped Fallen satanic Angel hybrids before the flood, the Giants, the Nephilim, a cross between human women and fallen angels, the source of today's evil, the ones who will be destroyed. Change the name and do not speak it.
