Young horse - the scales of training - how to start to develop a supple back in trot and canter
Переглядів 1,1 тис.2 роки тому
Boris is a 4yr old Johnson x Deniro horse. He works mainly in the fields and hacking to build strength and confidence. This video shows his first time in the arena for about 3 weeks after having a 2 week mini break. I wanted to explain how I warm up my horses and show a process to work through when I find my stumbling block. Today the stumbling block was longitudinal suppleness which is caused ...
Teaching leg yield in hand - young horse dressage training
Переглядів 3,4 тис.2 роки тому
I always teach lateral work in hand first - it can take a little practice to coordinate yourself and make yourself understood but persevere. Once you've established the leg yield it is a great tool for helping make your horse more supple through transitions and the ability to yield to the inside leg is essential for straightness, collection and contact....it is all part of the journey to 'thoro...
Boris (Juno Watt) first attempt at a dressage test - Intro C
Переглядів 7382 роки тому
Nothing shows up holes in your training like riding through a test. This is Boris' first attempt at a test - we set out a 20x40 arena inside our 25x45 and straight away I was aware that my outside aids were not as effective as Id have liked - I was pleased with this attempt but we have a lot to work on. Considering how long he has been riding horse....I think this is not bad at all. More work o...
Boris (Juno Watt) young horse training and show prep continues. Canter work and balance
Переглядів 2412 роки тому
Boris is just 4 and preparing for a young horse class next month. All of his work is aimed at building confidence and balance in his movement under saddle and strength and suppleness. You may wonder why I don’t just let him have a long rein in trot yet? Simply because this stretch is hard for him - it needs to be taught - some horses find it easier than others. My chestnut mare finds it easy as...
Boris (Juno Watt) 4yr old Johnson x Deniro gelding. Show preparation has started!
Переглядів 2652 роки тому
Boris is 4 and just starting boot camp to prepare for young horse classes. We have 4 weeks so let’s see if we can tidy up his work and get him ready. Importantly I want to keep a low stress environment for him and work mainly on moving up and down the gear box so we can develop more suppleness through his transitions, confidence and balance. Primarily…right now we need to keep the rhythm and re...

Equidance Juno Watt (Boris) - Longreining. Young horse training Johnson x Deniro x Fidermark
Переглядів 5633 роки тому
Boris is 3 and a superbly bred Johnson x Deniro x Fidermark gelding. He is long reining in preparation for breaking and we hope to share his progress with you. We are focusing very much on the first rung of the ladder of the Scales of training - Rhythm - he has a natural suppleness that means he moves himself well and without tension - his muscles are naturally loose when he works and he shows ...

Avalon Aged 3, early training and mounting block
Переглядів 9583 роки тому
Avalon is 3 years old here and just been broken to ride - we are continuing her training with a focus on helping her to be both brave and confident and also to be happy and relaxed standing while humans 'do their thing' around her - one of those things includes the mounting block.
Difficult horse to load - how to help them settle and stay calm in the trailer.

Dandy is a very inexperienced 9yr old and this is his second time in a trailer. I didn’t expect him to come out in fairness but luckily I was videoing for my facebook Vlog so we captured the whole thing. Dandy has never had a bad experience so he is a less complex horse to work with - also, I work with controlling his feet and gaining trust and confidence in every aspect of our training so this...
Dandy - early dressage training. Learning basic stop and go to teach thinking forwards

Dandy is a 16.2 PREx. He is 8 years old and has had no formal training really aside from hacking with his lovely owner down in Cornwall. the last 12 months he has only been ridden a handful of times. He has beenwith me for one month - 3 weeks of that I have been unable to ride as he bolted at a cow and I chipped my ankle and tore ligaments in my foot and ankle but I am back on again. I cant get...

Isis exracehorse Building on Lateral work and improving canter seat
Hi Kelly, great to watch. My thb's are tongue sensitive but my youngest is really not happy with quite a few. I have not tried a rubber jointed pelham yet but worth a try!
Very, very clever. Enjoyed that hahaha
My god I love this x
I would love to know more about what you are doing with your hands/contact.
Yeh really difficult to load horse 😂😂
why am i just seeing this!? it’s fabulous ❤
love love love❤
Love love love it
Wait...a horse was named after me??? I am honored
Stagnant on the longe. You don’t move . Why?
Brilliant Many thanks 😊
Omg, if I were you, I would be VERY VERY excited. She is stunning to look at . And even for her first trot with you ,it’s so fluid and even. And it will only get better with time. AND SHES ONLY 4!!!!?. Sorry for yelling I’m just super jealous right now LOL
Fantastic explanations.
Love this ❤
How have I not seen this before 😂😂😂 epic!
This is a joy to watch
What was the song in the beginning, it was an absolute bamger
Never mind I found it, it's a band called muse The song I liked was called uprising I found a new band I like thanks to this
love this!!!
❤
As having owned a horse, who got a wee bit too much latitude the odd time, I can relate! I would go in all nice and clean and come out a dusty, dirty itching mess sometimes, but I still loved the relationship! Great singing and video!
Hi Kelly, Trust you well, hopefully you will be able to assist, I have a mare that is 7 years, she raced for a couple of years and then used for breeding, I am trying to school her but she gets very anxious quickly, when I am riding her she goes well and shoots off😮 I have taken a video of her so maybe that will explain better than I have, (not to sure how to send) I am looking forward to any advice from you, Kind Regards, Denise
Absolutely amazing! Would you mind if I ask some advice?
Just watched the first season and you guys were great
Thoroughbreds are best horses and best friends and if I really wish I had one for some endurance rides. I love them.
you suck i love how she had no rossetes til the last day and i can only imagine the talking to pammy hutton gave her over how she treated dave what a hazard i would never buy from her
May I share this with lyrics?? BTW, you're a genius.
Brilliant 🤣🤣...I have the opposite problem, my horses (8) are either escaping, or race down to see me expecting goodies 🤣...mud though..urghh...I can't afford stables, and wontr is my nemesis 🤣🤣🤣
Never owned an ex racehorse but I did buy a TBX gelding through a dealer, who had been kept for hunting only and clearly hammered by an inconsiderate rider before being chucked in a small paddock and wintered out with s slice of hay a day. You could see his ribs, yet he wouldn’t eat hard feed no matter how the dealer tempted him. Even the dealer was worried, and said he just needed plenty of good grass but his grazing was very limited. I had 5 acres of lush pasture which hadn’t seen sheep for over a year, so I turned him out for the summer, sorted out his feet and started working him gently as his condition improved, Within a year he was unrecognisable, a fabulous looker, even the dapples appeared on his bay coat. Education-wise he never really took to advance flatwork but we persisted with the basics, and he had a ginormous jump, probably a legacy from his previous life. We did some local shows, mainly working hunter classes, but mostly he was a fun horse, a great companion who rewarded me in spades and was still going strong into his late twenties.
Quiet, relaxed, nice use of voice, and keeping it brief without asking too much. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Looks like you gained her trust pretty quick. Nicely done! 👍
I haven't laughed so much in a long time... It brought back so many memories LOL... I loved it...
Me too..12 Arabians + 2 Foals...used to gripe about Mucking Stalls..I miss them so.😢
Love this!
you are leaning forward in your trot canter transition, is this for any reason ? as I sit up more on my 5 year old and obvious other aids and the transitions are more fluent , she has just started canter transitions and this works better for her xx lovely horse 🐎
He could get a bit tight in the back so for him this helped
Love your stuff!!!
ua-cam.com/video/1lmd0sUxCOg/v-deo.html
Great video. Very informative.
you seem to be pulling on the bit a lot, he looks uncomfortable
thats an unfortunate name for a horse lol lol
Great to see him doing so well. Be nice to see Avalon working and her progress.
Thank you! She is back in work at the end of this week - she had a two week holiday following Nationals. I am not campaigning her for any dressage qualifiers over the summer - she is going to be jumping (hopefully) and learning her changes (also hopefully)
what do you do if the horse is more one to rush out the float when loading? like my boy when i try loading he will rush backwards when on ramp and just scares himself?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills
Kelly, this is so fantastic. I have watched it so many times. It brings it all back.
You using a cruilty bid,. That's not all right
Drivning,. And Walk beside,. Rest the s p I n,. That will get hurt , and will breeks down all!!
Full-blooded heavy wright riders ???
omg, this is soooo true.... thank you
I got a gorgeous walking horse mare a couple weeks ago and am having trouble finding the right bit for her. She doesn't know how to neck rein bit her previous owners were riding her in a ported curb bit. My goal is to get her to ride nicely in a bitless sidepull Like my other horses bit shes not ready for that yet. I just have a major problem with trying to direct rein with a long shanked curb bit! I'm so worried that I'm pulling on her mouth, I dont want to hurt her or traumatize her more than she has already been🥺
Fine looking filly in riding breeches 👍
Absolutely superb!
That looks like fun.
How did you get her to stay in the trailer while you raised the butt bar?
