Thank you so much for this chanel, I just started at Mavis and wowed them all by solving a no crank on a bmw, it was a lost ground, they ended up replacing the starter and obviously didn't work. I knew it was something to do with a ground from a past video about voltage drop from you. They didn't trust me because I was a tire Tech or aka a lube tech. I went into the office the next day, told them I can get the bmw started in 5 mins. Got a jumper cable, plugged one onto the battery one onto the engine block and BLAM started. You have no idea how much your videos help me with cars I have and how informative they are, never change, your changing lives that you never met.

I am commenting while watching, no blown fuses is what the man means. The hard crank on one cylinder seemed to clear up, extra fuel probably not extra coolant, tank over there looks ok. Jumper in the ground at the injector while you are there and try to start, then trace back from there as you have done quick and easy enough. Can't trust anybody, just start from scratch and don't worry about what other techs have done. Now if another car comes from that shop, don't need to call to see what they have already done. Voltage drop grounds as opposed to cleaning grounds. Of course, there are known bad grounds but only experienced techs will know this as an old school Honda Thermostat housing ground. Another great video and nice family and dinner.

THIS IS A COMMENT THAT I MADE TO ANOTHER YOU TUBER THAT HELPED ME TO GET MY VAN RUNNING. YOU ALSO HAVE HELPED ME EMMENSELY WITH YOU VIDEOS AND GOING THROUGH THE PROPER DIAGNOSES BEFORE THROWING PARTS AT IT AND HOPING IT WOULD START. THANKS SO MUCH. ALL THE COMMENTS I READ ABOUT YOU ARE SO GOOD AND HOPE YOU CONTINUE TO ACTUALLY HELP OTHERS.
Wow, great info. My 2002 chevy astro had the same symptoms as yours but I started to replace parts instead of diagnosing the problem. When it quit 6 weeks ago I used starter fluid to determine that I had spark and no fuel. So I replaced the fuel pump by cutting a hole in the floor to access it as I had a half tank of gas and no way of raising the van high enough . After that it ran for 6 or 7 days so I could finish a drywall job I was working on. Well it quit again (ruined the old battery by cranking to much so had to put in a new battery) and by watching you tube videos I started to throw parts at it as everyone had the solution. Because the new fuel pump was not working again I brought it back to the auto parts store and they replaced it no questions asked. Great warranty. But because of the end result the original replacement was probably still good. I started with a new coil, a new ignition control module, new crankshaft position sensor , new distributor with cap and rotor. Still no start. Watched more videos and saw that possibly all the grounds needed to be checked. I saw your video but oh well just another none solution so I thought. I was just about to replace the PCM computer as still no results. Then a few days later I saw your video again and remembered what you did. After a very frustrating day yesterday going over everything and then checking with a reliable local mechanic in the afternoon and quizzing him he said he could possibly look at it next week as he was swamped with repairs. Well here we go, I watched your video again and as a last resort what could I loose. Went and got some connecters and opened up the loom of wires just like you did and the rest is history. When i put the key in the ignition and turned it without cranking I had fuel gage now working and now a check engine light. Progress !!! Then went further and cranked it and IT STARTED ! Thank you so much for your knowledge. You saved me from going mad. This van has served me well for the last 15 years and I have been able to do all my own maintenance , but this last 6 weeks was a real challenge. Sorry for the long comment but I am truly grateful to you and thankful that you would share your experience. You have gained a subscriber.

When I first started following your channel many years ago I thought to myself why would an extremely competent mechanic shop make videos on how to properly diagnose and repair vehicles. I figured that you’d be giving away useful knowledge and hurting your potential income people would actually be able to maybe fix their own vehicles.
I’m a tech as well and I would like to think that I’m also a fairly competent mechanic who you know uses all the potential information sources at our disposal ie simple Google searches, forums and service data which ironically lead me to your channel and assisted me on pulling my head out of a rabbit hole I was just about to go into. I then realized after seeing how many licensed mechanics end up bringing you vehicles that they couldn’t repair because of their strange inability to read up and learn how a system works or maybe they’re too proud to open up a manual or whatever they’re reasoning for not following simple procedures, cause a lot of things that get brought to you end up being pretty simple stuff that likely pulling codes and wiring diagrams could have easily gave them a direction to start. Instead they rather just go in all Willy nilly no real plan just to fail. I then realized that if trained techs couldn’t do simple flow charts that the average person may not be able to as well.
You sir show me that there are indeed good mechanics still holding on strong in a field full of cannon jockeys. I really truly shake my head seeing shops that completely disregard the very first step in diag and pull codes. Checking for codes literally put you on a solid path and a wiring diagram which in turn lead you to 10 min simple 12 dollar test light diag and fixed before a guy could even finish coffee break lol

Logic and Common Sense DO prevail at times. Thanks!

    FYI for others ... I now have 2 vehicles. '03 RX 300 & '92 Caravan.
Caravan recently ... no dash lites, no BCM "Chimes, No Gauges".
Only OBD 1, so no help there. BUT I DO have the PAPER Shop Manual! :-)
Started at BCM and found 3 marginal grounds ... 1 in Eng. Bay, 2 at BCM mounting screws.
Added tooth washers to "Re-Bite" for contact. Cleaned the 2 BCM connectors with WD-40.
Then re-soldered cold solder joint inside BCM on PCB. Bingo.
This vehicle would have been CRUSHED years ago if it had gone to "Regular Shops".
Confession: Just finished the 120K service on the RX ... Crank, no start.
Re-checked the magnetic parts bowl ...
Whoa! I had forgotten the 12 mm nut for 3 GND wires at far back of ENG
5 min. of panic, 5 min of fix ... BINGO!
    Best,

No, it's always the last one. If Eric had tested the ground first, it would have been the positive supply that was bad. It's actually a quantum mechanics thing: the engine is in a superposition of all possible defect states (some number "N"), and N-1 possibilities must be eliminated before you find the cause. Same for a missing socket: Initially it exists in all drawers of your tool chest simultaneously, but as you search each drawer, the quantum waveform partially collapses so that the socket only exists in the drawers you haven't checked yet.

I just picked up my 2015 Toyota RAV4 from dealership after they told me they cannot fix it and charged me nearly $947 in service (includes new battery). Some days, the engine will crank but not turn over and start. So far, the dealership has replaced the battery and ordered fuel pump from Texas. After doing tests they said it's not fuel pump and suspect it's ECU but they're not sure. Told me to get CAA and keep driving it and pray the problem goes away. The no start problem has happened 6 times so far on different days, car only has 99000km on it. This video was informative, I'll keep an eye for when the problem happens again.

@alanpetrus2064 i replaced the coils when mine did that. And the aftermarket ones fit better. I wouldn't typically promote them not being OEM but I read about it and when I did, I could never forget that the cheapest were better because the other ones don't fit like they are supposed to. I paid $22 for all of the coils , replaced the spark plugs because I was in there ( I should have done thermostat because it was right there but my Rav has 244903 miles on it and it's a 2003 rav 4 sport. It runs good. Also, I replaced the oxygen sensor but the codes came back. I t cost me a lot like 200. And I drove it a week and the codes are back and stating that I have misfires in 1 , 2, and 4. Odd to me and low compression. High and now it says it's the CAT. But car drives good . I know it can be better but I have a simmer to fix now. I'm always scared to dive in but when I do, I think to myself," why I wait so long ...that was easy". Only I fix my cars and I don't know what I'm doing but I understand a lot because my Dad was a mechanic. He didn't alk when he worked because I wasn't one of the boys but I was the one sitting there watching. So, I know how to do a little, i just don't know what lead my dad to take the course he did and why. So, basically I know didly squat but what I teach myself. He worked on cars before ECMs (like 69 Chevy SS or thunderbird, impala, nissan trucks, etc.). Good luck.
Ohbyes, when my car starting getting worse, it didn't want to go 60 miles per hour unless it took me 20 minutes to get uo to that speed.) So glad that's fixed.
