  • “I sat there for six months. I heard people lying their heads off as witnesses who came into into court and did so.”
“I believe it was not an accident” says Michael Cole as he defends Al-Fayed’s theory on Diana and Dodi’s deaths.

I was just thinking the same. Hardly fair and balanced, is she? She's attacking the poor man (her guest!) at every turn, like she came in to this with an agenda, rather than to just interview the man...
Appalling behaviour with no journalistic integrity in sight.

Agreed. I don't know what her problem was (or how much the Royals paid her...) but this was embarrassing to watch. He did an excellent job of holding her to account and behaved far more like a professional journalist than she did! He showed her up for her lack of research and knowledge on the subject - but only after she had been really quite abrasive to him for no clear or apparent reason.
Her nasty attitude from the get-go didn't make her look like a "hard-hitting journalist", it made her look like a bully. Unless Times Radio are trying to recategorise themselves as a GB News spinoff, then they need to get better informed presenters with better attitudes, because this was abysmal.

Whether the man is speaking the truth or blindly loyal, there is no excuse for the appalling lack of professionalism from the host.
By all means, ask difficult questions and hold people to account - that's what journalists should do - but is there any need for the bad attitude? She is abrasive, rude, and insulting, when she could just as easily ask those same questions politely. The fact that the man has just lost someone that he said in his opening remarks that he considered a friend for 30+ years, could she not have at least given her condolences before berating him? Also, if you're going to assassinate the character of someone who has recently passed, quote/refer to the sources of that information. Otherwise you just look nasty.
Hugely disrespectful. This was an embarrassment. The Times need to do better than this if they don't want to be redesignated as a tabloid.

Thank you for saying that, and putting it so well.
I used to have great respect for the Times, but I have to say these journalists(?)/ hosts on Times Radio often appal me with their sloppiness - in dress, manner, diction, etc. Even so, I don't recall one being quite so rude and dismissive, especially with a recently bereaved guest.
The gentleman at least on the face of it seemed rational in his approach and had some interesting and less well-known information to add to the conversation, so whatever the host's personal judgement might be on the Diana/Dodi event, if they're going to invite a guest on to speak, he should at least be given the basic courtesy of having his points listened to and not summarily dismissed as if his personal knowledge of the situation was less relevant than the host's preconceived view. It's also a discourtesy and frustrating for us, the audience, since we don't get to hear the full thing so we can make up our own minds.
