    As you've mentioned in other videos, companies spent more to make the base models even more poverty. On the Popular, because of the lack of parcel shelf, the rear boot panelling either side is completely different to the Popular Plus or L which had the parcel shelf so if you ever wanted to retrofit, you'd need to buy those too, not just a parcel shelf.

      Yup. It’s this kind of thing I absolutely love about base models

    Your video is really amazing, full content of and great to watch. But drives me crazy rearranging “kei ay” instead of the correct “Kah” (saying like the end of Fiesta)

    Sorry to be that person, but why would Ford name their car a "Kay Ay"? it's pronounced "Car".

    I have a 2007 Ford Ka and it handles really nicely round corners. When it goes to rust heaven, I think I will get a Ford Fusion or Focus. Shame, as I will miss the little Ford Ka. Basic but fun to drive.

    And I find it quite intresting comparing that to the MK2 Fiesta (I have a 84 model), love that things have changed but not everything. Its similar to the MK1 and 2 Clio - espacially regarding the R5 and theier facelifts. (My Mom owns her Dads 97 Clio and my Uncle used to have a 99 Clio) :) Thanks for your videos !

    Great vid. I had a red MK 3 Fiesta (my second car) just like the one in this vid back in the day (my first car was a MK 2 Popular Plus). I went on to own a metallic green 1.7 VCT Ford Puma which was my favourite Ford! 👍🏼

    Great video Siôn, Ireallyenjoyed. My 1.3 mk4 Fiesta is a sensation to drive, the gearbox is probably the best I've ever used. The handling is crisp and steering is perfectly weighted. Basically everything you reported about the KA. Ford got it spot on with this generation and I hope more folk start to appreciate them.

      You are absolutely right Chris. My grandmother had a mk4 which my parents and I drove for a while after she’d gone into a care home. It was a revelation to me how nice it drove!

    Ford really got there act together with there chassis around the time of the ka and mk4 fiesta puma mondeo the mk6 escort handling was a big improvement over the mk5 and 5.5 then the mk1 focus took it to another level.
    With the KA I was always a little disappointed they didn’t offer it with the lovely 1.25 zetec engine

      @@MorselsAndMotors I very nearly did.
      My exe’s mother had a 1.25 mk4 ghia which failed mot on corrosion. That fiesta was the only mk4 I ever saw with leather interior
      And we had a ka with a knackered engine.
      It was one of those jobs that I never got round to doing.

  • @paultasker7788

    Is the Ka not based on the mark 4 fiesta? Or maybe it is called 3.5 (whichever it was it was launched about 1996??)

    • @MorselsAndMotors
      @MorselsAndMotors  Рік тому +1

      I think the mk4 still used the same basic platform as the mk3

    • @paultasker7788
      @paultasker7788 Рік тому

      @@MorselsAndMotors I think so. However the suspension on the mark 4 was vastly improved. Remember at the time people being amazed by how well it drove. The mark 3 polo won the award for best supermini in 1994. Remember being very proud as my mum owned one of the first demonstrators but then got beat in the first group test against that mark 4 fiesta due to the way the fiesta drove. The polo later became mine when it was 8 years old as my first car and when I went in my aunties mark 4 fiesta for a trip I agreed. It was better than the polo for how it drove. Much sharper handling, Much quieter at speed and that 1.25 yamaha engine was a peach. Shame they never put that in a Ka. Meanwhile I found the mark 3 fiesta rattly. We had mark 2 polo face-lift at the time J plate, fuel injected, automatic choke, and our friends had a mark 3 fiesta with carbs and a manual choke and that classic tapety Ford sound. I preferred travelling in the polo.

    It always makes me chuckle gently when you southerners say 'Kay Eh' - for us Scots, 'Ka' and 'car' are very different sounding words, so I don't think I've ever heard anyone up here bother with two syllables :)

    I love this! I remember when Russ got his KA in around 2007. Have to say the base spec Fiesta looks the best of all Mk.3 Fiestas. The KA tried its best to jump start my Picasso this evening.

    Bit late to this but interesting video. The MK3 fester was from when Ford was really penny pinching down to the very last 1/2p. It's sole mission was to match the 205 and no more. The 205 being 6years old by then meant it was already out dated when released.
    The KA was from the time under Richard Perry-Jone were the products were designed and engineered to be better than everything else and good to drive and own.

    My Mrs drives a Matiz. Its her second one. Ownership of the two spans nearly 20 years and 80k miles and as you might guess she loves them. She would tell you that a Matiz offers more space and is as nippy as both these and she loves them. Downside? Emissions. Reflected in road tax costs as its only slightly less polluting than a nuclear power station lol
