      Natural resources are double edged sword. It allows for massive profits for seleceted few. You don't need very skilled workers so you can just hire whoever. This is massive prize for powerful and vicious people who can then use that money to stay in power. If you don't have natural reaources, only resource you have is people. You then have to keep them happy and more educated population will be much more aware of state of things.
      There are ofc few countries that have got natural resources and do well in other fields, but they are minority and usually were already not reliant on natural resources before.

    My father worked for NEPA Afam which wasn't far from Ogoniland. He used to tell me the Ogonis were discriminated against - he recommended a lady from the area as an employee, but his bosses were against his idea and hired a less qualified applicant. There was a primary school in the area, but the Ogoni kids were seperated from the others, and even had a different own uniform. As if stealing their oil wasn't enough.

      i know people who work in these regions in Oil, Natural gas and such. firstly, 1 of the biggest reasons they aren't developing is because after doing all the calculations of profits the governments actually get more from just leaving it undeveloped and remaining on international aid. i have been told about how when they were called in to lay a pipeline, the company said it would be some figure, lets say $10 million, to lay the line and such and take 2 years, the government would then delay delay and try to make the company pay ALL of the cost and surrender the pipeline to them. this leads to unfinished pipelines after 5 years the companies won't work on as its literally just them paying to build government industry whilst being told they will not have any profit margin out of it, something like 30 years working on the pipeline to just make back the 10 million costs for the line or even the government saying they want to nationalise it...right after the company finishes paying and building it. secondly the greatest cause of the of these leaks in the environment as said in the clip is local people smashing into them to siphon oil for themselves and not understanding how to shut the machinery or safely do that process while the oil companies are vilified for not doing anything when they keep getting told they need to pay and maintain the pipes that the locals keep smashing to steal from. once a pipe has been smashed into the company comes in and does the 'clean up' and within a week another person smashes in and its another spill. then they are not allowed to return into the area which just exacerbates the problem as equipment is left unmaintained and still being damaged or misused . its a mixture of both sides causing the issue but people only think companies are the bad guys in this and ignore the other side. the companies cannot be everywhere at the same time or patrolling these wells. lets say its a super greedy oil company anyway, why would they want oil leaking from their wells or to have to pay for constant unneeded repairs and oil spill clean-ups, its just wasted profit so they would obviously try to avoid that. fining the companies for leaks when its other people literally vandalising their equipment would be ridiculous and immensely unfair, imagine having to pay to clean your blood off the shirt of a guy that punched you because people felt he deserved to be able to punch you, save that for when they actually do have a serious fuck up like with BP well. as i said, both sides have contributing factors, but if ANY oil with be tapped in the area the negatives of that will occur to some degree and unless the professionals are allowed to operate properly then these negatives will only be magnified. the other option is to not tap and that power lies with the government in these areas. notice how the people protested the wells in the area and the tapping of wells was stopped in the area, the company isn't going to set up nefarious secret wells, they will work like a business with a contract. the companies are just that, companies called in to do the job and service they do. just...dont look at it as the poor angelic people with the evil companies hanging over them when it is much more then that, why did the government agree, call in foreign companies to access and plan the construction, grant the contract and begin the construction of the line. they could've refused any oil taps whatsoever to begin with and the foreign oil companies would just leave it to develop where they actually can. please try to be rational and consider the actions of both sides in these matters

      Well in the United States they do! I work on an oil rig and if I spill just a cup full of oil or any other chemicals, I have to clean it up right away and go tell my boss. Otherwise I get fired. Yes in the 3rd world companies this happens a lot. You won’t see this in the US.

    How can one steal a free nature resource

    • @justhuman3977
      @justhuman3977 5 років тому +5

      By believing all natural resources are owned by human beings that have claimed ownership through violence, genocide, slavery and oppression. In other words it is the believe in authority that is making this possible.. As long as people believe that other people have a right to have authority over other people they will be slaves and stealing resources that actually belong to us all. That said.. Oil should not be taken out of the earth at all.. It is the Earths blood and when we pump to much out of the earth it will have serious grave consequences for ourselves as we are currently experiencing.. Nature is seriously out of balance due to our interference, Earths immune system is kicking in turning our environment that all life depends upon against us . When we keep this up then soon we will see a response from nature for instance like a caldera going off.. but man is stubborn and will not change its ways, then perhaps an asteroid will hit earth.. and man will still not change his ways so man will go extinct..

      So whats the alternative? Guy with the biggest truck can just drive up and take it all home? How am I going to drive to work? How am I going to heat my home? I can't fly to Africa and bring back enough of that oil to take care of my people. Plus, it would all be gone before I got there by the richest. My only option in that world would be to steal it. Nothing is free.
