They are more opened to travelers from overseas. articulation between traditional and modern culture. Seems the locals are very hospitable and the city is safe to explore, it's very far and different from what the western medias reported. This is one of the city that should be traveled when visit China.

There isn't a Xinjiang permit, but you might need local ones, depending on your trip. My advice would be just make sure you avoid the bitter winters.
you only need a permit to go to border areas, and its for all non-locals including chinese citizens

It is ok to report negative news about a place as long as they are facts, but NOT lies! Western media manufactured only lies about Xinjiang or ill interpreted everything, not just about Xinjiang, but China. This is evil!
