    I apologize if my comments seamed rude to you. I am all for preparing long term storage supplies and appreciate the time and effort you took to make the video. I assure you I am not an unhappy person and am not trying to bring down others as you suggested. I was only concerned with the visual effect of the tobacco spit in the bottle while you were packaging the food.

    Things like scurvy will become a reality with prepped food rations. U should throw a one-a-day vitamin in each pack for Vit-c....etc. protein bars or powder as well as nuts can be a substitute for lack of meat

    Well sir, I don't know about others, but we can only do what we can do, according to the needs of our families; and when funds are limited, (knowledge here) you can bet that what you have there is better then some others. I really liked the idea of putting a couple bottles of water in those MREs because clean water sources may not be available at all; especially if there's a nuke facility accident. Then everything around it would be contaminated. So Kudos to you, bro. Blessings to you and yours.

    good idea adding the water bottles in some of the mre's. i couldn't see my wife with a filter straw in some mud hole also, let alone 2 of my 3 kids. I'm in early stages of putting some together. thanks for the idea. although water can get very heavy, the smaller bottles might do just fine if the family were to get separated for some reason.

    Completes can be heated over a fire. I called the company to find out for sure, and I use them camping all the time. I just dump them into a metal pie plate (I use for a plate) and place them on the fire, and stir them while the heat up. They are all pre-cooked so they just need to be warmed through.

    Great variety and essentials, good job! I keep water in the car or back of my truck for engine overheating possibilities, but I hear you on the gas price factor.

    If you are concerned about the water bottles getting busted in the car you could wrap the packs in bubble wrap before you put them in the duffel bags. That should help to protect them. Just a thought.

    Great..one suggestion though - for portable, packable ration packs you can not pack the water and instead carry a Sawyer Mini filter in your bugout kit. Water is heavy and takes up volume. In a BOB I find it better to carry the lightweight filter and find water where I'm going although keeping a liter for instant use. That way you can store more food ration packs in your bag that would last more days. Thanks..

    My hat is off to you Bronson and any man who can drink Clover Valley coffee is one heck of a strong man. I always drink generic coffee and use generic everything, I am definitely not rich , but we tried Clover Valley coffee and "like ta died"! Lol, we just could not do it. Man , that was some rough coffee! We tried the Clover Valley kool aid type drink mix (orange ) and we are convinced it is what Jim Jones used to kill those poor people.We now refer to it as Jim Jones kool aid. God awful stuff!

    I like mystery in my preps so I sometimes leave out the information on what the meal is and when we go camping, the looks in my kids faces are priceless when they open the shelf stable food. Oh, date the finished bags.
    Rule of thumb: Eat what you prep and prep what you eat. Food Fatigue can kill you.

    Niaaaze! couple things i thought of... Tin foil, maybe 3 feet of it folded up should go in each MRE. Also, its probably good to have 3000+ calories a day in a camping out or bugging out situation bc you will probably be exerting yourself physically and mentally. Also, water bottles in your car are ok for bug out scenarios but in any other case its not a great idea to leave plastic water bottles in extreme heat. (Cancer causing)
    Nice meal, i am gonna have to steal some of your ingredients!

    Great video on a good to know food prep. I have cases of MRE's that I got from the Reserves before I left in 2009. The perks of being in a supply company! But, they won't last forever nad my wife isn't too keen on them enyway, so this might be a better option for her pickiness! Now If I can just figure out how to get a can of Diet Coke in there...

    By the way, bro...since the last time I was in here I went on to Amazon and got the Sawyer filter with the 3 bags and the 60 cc syringe to backflush the filter. It wasn't that expensive, and it's guaranteed 99.9999999 of ALL waterborne bacteria will be removed. Surpasses the CDC's requirements. Guaranteed 1 Million gallons on that filter. The three bags are sml, med, and lg. Took it camping is the water tasted great. You can fill them up, then squeeze it into any container you want. (con't.)

    So, just curious, how do those meals hold up in summer heat in the trunk of the car? I can see the water bottles slow leaking in the heat, the plastic will go if it's in direct sunlight but should be fine in the trunk, but those meals seem like they might need replacement every 6 months or so to be OK if you are in a hotter climate or just have a hot northern summer. Just wondering how they held up as it has been a few years(?).

  • @centralmswhc0169
    @centralmswhc0169 8 років тому

    There's no way those water bottles are gonna bust. They'll hold up to more pressure or vacuum than you could ever imagine, but if it's a concern just use something like Dasani bottles which would be even stronger.

    Food idea for packing in garage for a few weeks( earth quake, bad storm,etc) problem is that unlike canned food what you're showing might only last less than a yr, and you'll have to rotate it to keep fresh.I'd go canned gooda or freeze dried for home, mres to be mobile or in car

    Thanks..and thank GOD I don't have to do that too often. It does take it's toll after awhile. I just keep watching for the premium brands to go on sale...and I find them once in a blue moon. LOL :) My favorite is Dunkin' Doughnuts coffee, Tim Horton's and Starbucks...but they're getting way too rich for me. I do like Maxwell House Colombian, and it goes on sale more then others. To be very honest with you, unless I make any of them with distilled water I have 'major indigestion.' :D

    Your home made MRE 's aren't bad they only thing I can say ie those compeats are Kent for a microwave to cook in.your better off getting Ramon noodles, spam singles, or like uncle Ben's rice packets cause those only require hot water or u can eat right with out cooking and bulk of those items are super cheap. A small cook set and backpackers stove may be a good edition to the food bag in ur car. Other wise good job and keep up the good work look into water purification and small storage systems

    Few comments I have on the MRE's you've created.
    The Shelf life is way too short in my opinion, the shelf life of tuna packet is 2-3 years now obviously you wouldn't want to wait until the MRE expired to replace it or you'd have periods of time that you are unprepared which means you'll be stuck replacing the MRE's every year or year and a half.
    You could dehydrate everything and get 10 years shelf life if you vacuum sealed it in a Mylar bag with a oxygen absorber and stored it at room temperature (70 deg F).
    Another Thing, you mentioned that you had kids too or other people that would be going with you. Why have all of the individual packets inside the bag? it adds a bunch of extra packaging material that makes it larger and heavier to carry.
    If you just packaged the 3 or whatever servings of each meal together in one bag you'd be able to carry more food for the same amount of weight / size and divvy it up when you get to where you're going to eat it.

    IGood idea. I would say you underestimate the needed quantities. Kids eat like animals in the outdoors, and emergencies are even worse. Food is comfort to them. One pack of oatmeal or grits won't cut it. Double the small thing like that, add extra snacks and have items to boost the evening meal. Also water purification tablets in each bag. These are just my thoughts on the subject. I mean no offense. Thanks for making the video and have a great day.

    two bottles are good for the first night of an emergency but you might consider the pen and educating your wife and kiddies. You can give someone a fish and that person will be satisfied for one meal but teach them how to fish and they will eat for the rest of their lives. Teach them to boil water, or put in purification tabs. The drinking pen is the best and even missionaries and ministries send them to 3rd world countries. Balance the MRE's vitamins, carbs, sugars, protein. survive healthy

    Just as an aside, many of those items are now available at the dollar store; like Dollar Tree, and Family Dollar...the latter a bit more. But even the off brands are good. I love that canned Mackerel from Dollar Tree...it's very good...and if you like tuna, you'll really like that one. Check them out...I don't think you'll be sorry. Even Clover Valley brand from Family Dollar is a decent product. I use the coffee and it's as good as the Kroger brand, and lots less expensive. Just sayin.

    @KenworthKyle69 8 років тому

    Hello. This isn't a spam comment and I'm not trying to criticize you, but in my opinion I think you should add food to your "MRE" that is already cooked. Because MREs were designed to be eaten with or without cooking in the field. Now I don't expect you to be in a situation where cooking would be an inconvenience. But if your like me, what I'm "prepping" for is some sort of invasion or terrorist attack and personally I don't want my enemy to see my fire when I'm cooking food!

    • @cokeman250
      @cokeman250  8 років тому

      Everything in this MRE can be eaten without cooking it. if you can't tell that then you might want to start prepping common sense first and foremost. Yes it would be better heated just like a real MRE but doesn't have to be. God bless and I hope the best for you.

    • @KenworthKyle69
      @KenworthKyle69 8 років тому

      +cokeman250 really? Even the Horner? I thought it needed 90 second heating? I've never even seen one before so I don't know. I thought it was something that NEEDED cooking. Sorry man

      @KenworthKyle69 8 років тому

      +cokeman250 but also I wasn't being rude you don't need to insult my common sense. We probably live in different areas and I've never seen that meal.

    • @cokeman250
      @cokeman250  8 років тому

      +Kyle Arm I couldn't tell if you where being rude or not with the exclamation mark. So my bad if you where not being rude. The hormels do not have to be heated it's like anything from a can. Taste better heated but not necessary. Instant oatmeal same way. My kids have never heated their oatmeal the just add water and eat. The reason I use the hormels is because of the sleek shape and package instead of a can. Hope this helps.
