Welcome to the next STRANGE adventure! In this adventure we are going to show you how to get more storage space out of your 2020 Grand Design Reflection 311BHS. This camper hack involves no modifications to existing plumbing or electric wiring. This video gives you a step by step look into how I modified the shape of the storage bay using some existing materials and a few I purchased from Lowes. A complete list of tools and materials is below.
Anytime you can increase the amount of storage in your RV, it’s worth it. This was a very cheap modification that just took a little time and patience. First, I took down the existing wall, then built a frame to go around the back side of the water unit. Fabricated a few carpeted panels to cover the water unit frame and then cut down the existing wall to fit into the remaining space. I hope this video helps you with your own camper and/or gives you some ideas for your next rig.
WARNING: Always check with your manufacturer before modifying your RV. Changes could void your warranty and it's best to check first.
    Tools I used:
Saw, Drill, Phillipshead, Drill bits, Measuring tape, Straight edge, Razor
    Materials I Purchased:
    Carpet- $20
    (2) 1”x2”x8’ Wood- $5
    Screws- $10
    Adhesive- $10
    Thanks for watching!

Having the courage to take on a project like that is awesome. From someone with some finish carpentry experience you did a great job. Each time you do stuff like this you will learn little tricks to make YOUR work better and easier. Good job.

Great work. You are right about added space. When ever you can get a tad more, it helps. Useful mod too due to being able to store things without having them in weird angles.

Thanks for watching. I agree! Any space is good space when it comes to a camper! Best part, it was fairly cheap to do! Thanks again!

I just completed the same storage upgrade. Also, installed Surge Guard 50A Hardwire model while the storage wall was down.

I was able to fit stuff from both sides into the one side when loading it back up. Means more room which is great! Thanks for watching!

Was curious how working on stuff from panel and the pump area works out for you now. Assume you would have to take all the stuff you did out?

Hey Randy, We actually traded the 311 for a toy hauler so we don’t have it. However, when we still did, we did have to take the new panels out to work behind the wall but it’s the same as taking out the original. It’s held up with just a few screws 😊

Did you find a second fuse box behind there when you did this project?

We have the exact same rig (ours is a 2021) and as an electrician I cringe every time I look behind an access panel. This isn't just a Grand Design issue, all manufactures really do a pretty terrible job of taking pride in their quality of workmanship wherever the customer won't see on a regular basis. I've never left a job site with the rats nest of wiring these RV manufactures leave behind.
Is their workmanship safe? Yes I'm sure these RVs will rarely have an issue due to workmanship but wow does it look terrible. It's mostly because manufactures are trying to build as fast as possible and routing the plumbing and wiring more like a home would cost them more labor during the build process.
An area that drives me nuts on our 311 BHS is if you're standing on the upper level by the bathroom door and look towards the entertainment center area you can see a bunch of wiring just laying on top of the upper cabinet. You'll never see it from the kitchen or living room but if you're up there it sticks out like a sore thumb.
I'm definitely going to be looking into doing this project on our rig, we don't need the extra space yet but it would come in handy for bigger items. Currently we have our Treager and chairs on the camp side and the utility side has my cords, electrical adapters, hoses, wheel chocks and a few other things. With the extra space i might consider moving our battleborn batteries into this storage area since it's heated because we all know how much lithium batteries like the cold!

It is quite a mess under there! And thanks for that.... I can't unsee the wires above the TV cabinets now... LOL. We appreciate you watching and commenting and congrats on the 2021 311bhs... We love ours and am sure you will get many years of enjoyment out of it! Let us know if you have any questions. Happy to help. Happy camping!

We loved our 311 but our son outgrew the bunk 🤷🏻‍♀️ So we decided to get something that would better suit our family ☺️ It was wonderful for the time that we had it though.

Did the same thing to our 376 rig. So much wasted space from the factory.
