There hasn't been a large meteorite or comet stike on Earth for a long, long time. There has been a lot of scientific interest in the Chicxsalub crater left by the object that wiped out the dinosaurs. The impact was so massive that it turned bedrock into molten rock, and like dropping a rock into water, that molten rock rebounded and shot hundreds of miles all around the crater site, triggering massive fires everywhere it hit land. Odds are that these objects are smaller and were travelling at a slower speed, but if one of them hit within visible distance from Nancy Gao's jet, she was a goner as soon as it hit. No doubt whasoever.
it's so good that one day you started watching this show because that's how I found out about it and like you I was amazed at how good it is and this episode is a great example of that :)
WOW, that is awesome. Word of mouth is best marketing this show has, I am trying to think of something smart to say about marketing a high quality show, but I realize that I know nothing about it, so I don't even know what question to ask. WHY NOT EXPANSE MORE POPULAR?
@@pssthpok maybe this is a good thing because considering how the show ended, a lot of people would be unhappy because the most epic events remained in the books :)
One of the MANY things this show does so well is show how actions have consequences. Even when we do things with the best of intentions… there is no way to see all the possible outcomes- you make the best choices you can at the time - Naomi keeping the protomolecule, Drummer letting Marco live - even James logging the distress call on the Canterbury… None of those were the only cause - but all together & we got rocks hitting the Earth ☄️ What will the responses to this set in motion?? 🚀
You are correct! The only protomolecule left is all because of Naomi. Amazing how that still drives the story. But remember, when we met Avasarala in Season1 Episode 1, she was looking for Who stole stealth from Mars; tonight Marco said that was Filip.
Filip stole it in season 4. He is the one who escapes from Bobbie just before the dome explodes. You can see him looking at her, but nobody knew him yet back then. The stolen stealth tech from episode 1 may or may not be related to Marco Inaros. We don't know it for sure. This was years before, and stuff like stealth technology would always be an interesting thing on the black market anyway.
Remember the Belter that Chrisjen was torturing waaaaay back in rhe first episode? Its mentioned that he was caught smuggling Martian Stealth Tech. Also, while in the water tank, he echos similar rhetoric as Marco. The asteroid strikes were in the works for a looooong time. Asteroids take years to travel across the solar system. The plan was in motion long before the protomolecule was discovered. 😯
Marco, like many fanatical revolutionaries, is excellent at destroying but not building, and of course he does not have a plan B because he is a narcissist who cannot allow himself even to assume that his ideal plan will not work the way he thinks :)
Marco has nested plans, so that if his best case doesn't play out, he can claim the next step down, or the step below that. 9 or more rocks sent. But 3 is spun into a victory. Ego protection through planning before and reframing afterwards.
There is good quote in world war Z book about Che - he moved with his revolution to Bolivia, because it was much easier to destroy trains, than make them arrive at expected time. Marco is exactly same.
I remember having the same thoughts about Naomi when I watched this episode...that decision had a massive ripple effect. She had no idea just how bad that decision would be.
The way the inners have treated belters is what led to this day of reckoning. Naomi’s life trauma and maternal instinct governed her decision-making. Had the inners treated the belters well, things would be different on many fronts. I’m not saying she was right, but her decision made sense.
Great reaction, I love to see how invested you are in the show, Beratna! Bobbie and her rat - so powerful, I agree 1000%!! I would be surprised if you've seen it, but the female guard who takes Amos down into the Pit is a minor character in the SF series Dark Matter. The Amos visit with Clarissa was rough. I think he WAS there to help her, but maybe did not think it through. Fred's death hit me hard. He was a stand-up guy. Respect and tears. Monica came in clutch in the battle of Fred's bedroom!
3 rocks hit Earth at this point. First one in Africa west coast at the end of last episode, second one near Philadelphia, and the third one in Asia near UN One. 3 got destroyed, 3 missed, one broke apart in episode 501. So there were at least 10.
To show how long thinking the writers have been, think back to the very first episode of season 1. Not just the scene with Chrisjen and her grandson on the roof. The belter that she had had up on the hooks who had been transporting stolen stealth tech, that was one of Marc's people. This had been confirmed by Ty Frank, co-author of the books and one of the head writers and producers of the show, on the podcast Ty & That Guy that he does with Wes Chatham (who plays Amo's). Marc had been looking for a way to strike at Earth for a very long time. BTW, I love your passion. I'm right there with you. When we see the scene of Fred laid out dead I had to pause the to show and had to walk around my living-room for 15 min to collect myself. This show makes big risks and succeeds. It ruined for me trying to watch other mediocre shows.
7:00 'chef Casey' is a nod to the main character in Under Seige and the 'Savage Industries' branding on the boarding robot is a nod to Adam Savage of Mythbusters fame (who also had a cameo in an earlier episode)

So obvious from a third party observer, but a mother's perspective can make you take crazy risks.

Since this is a tabletop RPG now, the lazy GM option of ending a session with “rocks fall everyone dies” is canon.
Fred is dead and shed lost his head but that's an old story ]:)
