Is it possible to swap the bell housing from a C60 with one from a C59? We've got a '06 Matrix that had the rear engine mount point break off the casing (one good bolt out of three) and thought that we might be able to just change the bell out so we could keep the 6-speed transmission.
Just curious..IM NOT BEING A SMART ASS... why does it look clean and fresh painted silver...was it a recent rebuild that took a shit? I'm curious because these damn c59's seem to be very temperamental...by the way great job!!!
@@CurmudgeonTransmission well I know of somebody that have had C59 in their 2005 Matrix fail at 700,000 km. But it lasted that long. These can last if you take good care of them, changing manual transmission fluid (AKA gear oil ) the first 70,000 km is very important for it to last a very long time. Most people forget to do that. Another factor, most people that buy vehicles with standard transmissions are young dumbo-jumbos that drive it daily like they stole it. At my high school there are more vehicles with manual transmissions than there are with automatics-older vehicles. They do drive reckless. I’ve seen these last a long time in Matrixes & Corollas. The vehicles last a really long time in general.
What did you remove at 3:00 ? Also does this transmission have a breather vent, I'm having a hard time finding it? Found some water in my gearbox oil so I'm trying to figure out where it came from.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission Thank you! Looks like the breather is accounted for. Somehow got water in the case though, mechanic looked it over and said everything looks fine now. Have you seen condensation around the breather ever make its way into the case by any chance?
@@CurmudgeonTransmission must be a better transmission. Wonder how easy it would be to make the swap in my 09 corolla. 3rd gear in my c59 is saying it doesn't want to be cog shaped anymore

I have no idea personally as I have never had a C60 apart. However, I did read on a forum that it can.

Not that I recall. New job for us but I don't think anyone had been into it recently. Definitely not a very good transmission.

Detent ball for the shift rail. Breather is on top of the case where the shifter assembly bolts to the case.

@@MH-kq1ii Yes. And seems to be worse if the vehicle sits for long periods between driving.

are manual transmissions easier or harder to do than automatics .. generally?
I would rather do an automatic any day over a standard. Some are not too bad. This one while not the easiest standard I have done it is pretty easy.

Not too bad if you have bearing pullers and a press. Done ones a lot harder.
I wish you have a c60 video showing how to rebuild the 6th gear

That's literally the easiest gear bruh 🤣🤣🤣
