Sans has an ability to hit the player with "Karma", which gives damage in proportion to how many people you've killed. Which, considering this is the end of the game and he's the final boss... it's a *lot.*
And because the game runs at a fixed 60 FPS, Sans does 60 DPS, If the karmic effect didn't exist (the purple decreasing HP layer), only 2 seconds of constant damage would kill us
Star never actually plays in the game - it was supposed to play during some of the attacks of a random encounter, but it caused issues with the background music and was removed. The only relation it has to Chara outside of fandom is that Chara, aside from being a shortened form of 'character', is also the name of a star. Also, while Chara does serve as a mirror of the player, the idea you mentioned of deciding to murder everyone in a game is also exactly what Flowey talked about in the prior song.
Sans technically only has 1 HP, 1 ATK and 1 DEF, making him the weakest character in the game. However, he gets around this by cheating the system in every possible way. He is the only monster in the game to dodge your attacks. You *cannot* hit him until he's too exhausted to dodge anymore. Asgore is described as being able to do this too, but we never see him in a fight where he's not holding back, so he doesn't. He ignores invincibility frames, meaning you take 1 damage for every individual frame in which you're touching one of his attacks, and applies KR (commonly believed to be meant as "KARMA"), a form of poison damage, with every hit. He even attacks you on the menu during your turn.
@@pug8714 considering that sleeping in the inn in Snowding for a few minutes heals you more than your max HP, Sans should have a few more than 1 at any time
Sans is the most difficult fight in the game, or 2nd hardest if you ask someone who finds Undyne the undying harder, with Sans being one of the 3 final bosses and the only final boss that doesn't absorb any human souls to increase his power (other 2 are Omega Flowey and Asriel Dreemurr). The main reason Sans is so difficult despite having 1 defence and 1 attack is because of KR (Karmic Retribution) which cause poison like damage based on how many sins the opponent has committed, and since you killed almost every monster in the underground that is one hell of a lot, along with the fact that he can dodge attacks unlike any other monster (except maybe Asriel depending on how you interpret the "miss"). Canon strength he is literally the weakest monster like the "Check" tells you, but gameplay wise he is no doubt the hardest, causing hundreds of deaths to many players.
@@pug8714 from the kr poison like damage, every frame you are in an attack you receive 1 kr, normal damage is only taken when you first hit a bone/blaster so technically there sort of is invincibility frames but kr is added on top making it seem like no invincibility frames

One HP in the code at least, granted that fake hitting undyne does 1 damage, he would be dead by Undertale if someone tapped him
