I've attended a presentation by Houston Aztec Dance and Drum in person. To witness and participate in what they share was a privilege.

I love Dule Hill and so happy he is doing this. This episode was fantastic. It really highlighted for me the importance of the arts for human development, story telling, healing, and making connections.

    Incredible talent.
Side note: Notice how his dog comes over to sit by him when he becomes emotional. Dogs are the best.

    once more.
thank you PBS for allowing these voices
the space to be heard, reclaimed, shouted in glory.
    but.
if you stop paying attention for a second,
    or even blink,
there are those who will take advantage of that moment of inattention
to take away all you have worked so hard to get back.
    why?
    because you threaten their control,
and the richness they have stolen
    from all of us,
    will be in jeopardy.

This is beautiful. Dance is so important to communicate not only on the outside but to meditate and release on the inside in all cultures.
It's so important to know your true spiritual culture and history as a black or brown person.

What about the arts and media revolution out of Dallas. Musea since 1992 has advocated for major changes in every major art form.
SUM UP OF ARTS AND MEDIA REVOLUTION:
What is the arts and media revolution about? The changes we work for are
    1. Fair guaranteed, no-ad, reviews to all
    2. Fair media coverage based on quality not promotion budgets.
    3. Pennies for play - the author would get a penny for every click on say a chapter of his novel, or book anywhere it's posted online.
    4. The break up of those few companies that make the art, distribute the art, promote the art, and then review the art. They can do any one of those, but not all four! That is too much control in too few hands. The arts of a country cannot be owned by a few conglomerates.
    5. City art centers, that are open to promoting all local authors (or artists of any kind.)

Look let’s be real, the only true authentic type of European centric art in Texas has been Tejano music. It was born out of Mexican and German immigrants in the hill country, and at its height created a unique Texas icon Selena. Look it up it’s true.
