2019 Kia Forte First Drive Review: The Perfect First Car

- Kia has been on a roll lately with groundbreaking models like the K900 and Stinger. Now the Korean automaker is taking some of the styling DNA of those cars and applying at a lower price point on the all-new 2019 Forte sedan, which we got to drive this week in Pittsburgh.
The engine is basically a carryover, albeit with a few improvements to increase efficiency. The output is a rather average 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, but the big story is the addition of a new continuously variable transmission. CVTs are typically maligned by enthusiasts, but this one does an excellent job of simulating gears. It also helps the Forte achieve 31/41/35 miles-per-gallon city/highway/combined.
With a suite of standard safety features and available features such as ventilated seats and adaptive cruise control, the new Forte looks like a standout in the compact sedan segment.
(NB - We later discovered that the transmission simulates eight gears, but we didn't drive fast enough to reach that last gear).
Picking up a 2019 Kia Forte FE with the 6 speed this week. Considering the price and the features it comes with you can't beat the price. The 2.0 with manual was awesome to drive and very engaging. It's not a sports car but it zips around easily. Only thing I didn't like is getting alloy wheels is not an option. But hey, I picked it up for $16897( includes dealer fee, excludes tax, title, and registration fee) and you can't beat that for a low price, modest sedan that I will be using for a commuter and for trips up and down the east coast for work.
how's the forte been so far?
Good to meet you in Pittsburgh Jared,
I agree that this car does a lot of things better than the civic and corolla.
I also agree this CVT feels like an auto almost. I don’t think 90% of people will have any problem with it at all, now it’s just a question of reliability.
They certainly have stepped up their game. I remember my parents crappy Sportage from the early 2000s
Good looking car Kudos Kia/Hyundai on your recent good looks design streak Great video review BTW
It doesn’t look like any current Volkswagen but for some reason I feel like this is what the new Jetta should have been
Omg, there's an arm rest cupholder in the back seat! I have the 2017 forte lx manual, coming from a 2000 honda accord, I miss those back seat cup holders
Are they easy to drive ?
What does Smart drive mode do?
It basically switches between sport and eco depending on how you drive.
Welcome to my hometown.
I'm a huge Steelers fan, so I was LOVING this trip
Me as well!
Is it true the 0-60 with this CVT is around 11 seconds? (Other channels have said)
letsgocapsbeatpens about 8-9
Can you review the Buick Regal GS please!
We have a written review of that car coming on our site, but it's another writer so I won't be doing a video😢
@@JaredRosenholtz Nooooo! Then can you review another Buick?
@@destincoutee7377 I'll try. I'm waiting for the 2019 models to come in for reviews
a different review said 41 MPG
Yep but highway
Ask me anything about this all-new Forte!
No driver's seat memory? On any trim?
Thanks!
@@davidm5707 I don't think any cars at this price have it
Can you get power folding mirrors on any trim? I like that on my '17 Forte EX
@@austinslater9549 I am not sure
How does it compare to the 2017 Corolla's acceleration?
You keep showing a red version of this car that's in California but, your in a blue one in Pittsburgh with California plates! That's kinda misleading where you are or which car and where you are driving it! Just saying 😎
The red car is what's called b roll footage. It's from Kia, and unfortunately I didn't have the chance to drive a red one in Pittsburgh and Kia didn't record b roll of a blue one. Simple explanation.
@@JaredRosenholtz hey Jared, that was a very quick response.....thanks for that! Yeah, I kinda figured that and I was fishing for that info...ha,ha,ha nice video and thanks for you're response on my response to your audio equipment 😁😁😎👍
The CVT is new and unproven for reliability and longevity.
They've been making CVTs for years. They are fine.
Kia hasn't lol
Jared Rosenholtz Go watch Scotty Kilmer video on CVT’s. He’s been a mechanic for 50 years and he says they break down all the time and are extremely unreliable.
Scotty said buy a toyota cvt
Good!=))
Mine doesn't even have a fake leather steering wheel
He shouldn't have said that, because it is a genuine leather wrapped wheel.

Thank you again, Car Buzz... www.extreme-engine-relief.solutions
I agree with the narrator as well that this KIA is a "Must Buy"!
Good review but why say "All New..." when clearly it is not ALL new.
It is all-new. Engine is the only carryover. This is a new generation.

Nice!
Dude your volume levels are still absolute garbage. SO quiet. Come on dude, you're better than that kind of sloppiness.
I'm working on getting a better audio on the inside of the car
On my end he sounds fine! Maybe it's your end...just saying!
@@JaredRosenholtz on my end you're audio sounds fine loud and clear!
@@1biggun712 I think it sounds ok, but I know where he is coming from. I'm working on getting better audio equipment for the in car footage. Audio is the toughest part of video.
Another vote for loud and clear !
