@Tibbles I can relate to this. My dad is an ex driving instructor, and he taught me how to drive. Dunno why he chose that line of work as he's always been a nervous passenger, so you can imagine what he was like teaching his own son. It was no picnic! 😂😂😂
@James Stewart Went too far? Not at all. I'd rather taking a telling off like that than live with the guilt of killing someone because I was being a idiot.
If I had seen the kid on the bike I would have moved well over to the left, the coast being clear, and given him a wide berth. I think coming to a complete halt is a bit of an overreaction. It's not the first time the driver is going to come into close proximity with an idiot on a bike and it won't be the last. You can't expect it to result in a complete stop every time. Learning to recognize and avoid problems is an important part of becoming a good driver. That doesn't mean stopping every time you see a potential problem.
The blurred shapes around him came suddenly into focus. He knew immediately where he was. Going round the roundabout at Monks Cross Drive the wrong way. 😂
In Jarod's defense, while the overtake was definitely not a good idea (especially with the no overtaking lines), at no point was he speeding (in the footage from the 50 zone, he topped out at 45)
4:18 -- It's great to see my clip make it in to the Best of 2020! Thanks Ashley! The clio in front was a mate from work and we pretty much drove behind each other for half of our journey home every day, and every time we got to this roundabout, we always said it's a dangerous one. There's so many near misses on it and probably just as many actual crashes
And my clips at 10:20 and the other view just after too! Thanks Ashley, as much as I like the idea that someone else sent in the second view, they were both my clips, the guy from the second view pulled in and gave me the footage in case I needed it for insurance purposes
Ashley you have made me a much calmer and better driver on the road. Safety, anticipation and what makes traffic flows best is always at the top of my mind when I drive. Learning new things every video. Cheers from Singapore! and stay safe :)
8:28 That is beyond sad. I assume that is a 30 zone, so it isn't like they can floor it anyway. I don't mind being behind learners, the only people I don't like being behind, are people braking erratically, unexpectedly, having ever-changing acceleration and deceleration for no discernible reason, and a poor understanding of how indicators should be used. Being behind someone driving badly, ended up with a tailgater getting mad, overtaking too close, immediately brake-checking and sending us into a ditch. They must have thought we braked checked them, but the car in front just slammed on the brakes when a lorry passed us on the opposite side, despite it being a very wide portion of road.
My favorite has to be the car that over took the instructor, only for the instructor to catch him up at the next set of lights and then continue past him when the lights changed, I found that clip totally hilarious and the guys reaction behind was childish at best. Thanks for all your clips and anylisis videos during 2020, keep safe and I hope you and your family have a great Christmas.
This form of education should be taken into every high school, almost guaranteed that 75%+ of a class room will have lost a friend or family member in a road accident. Having worked with young people for over 25 years, I have seen many families suffer the loss of a young son or daughter behind the wheel or in a mates car. Its much more common in rural roads, higher speed, more challenging roads, inexperience and showing off to their mates. Have a friend who lost a grandson 10 years ago, he was 18, the driver was 18, born on the same day, his twin. You raise awareness in a good way Ashley, keep doing it mate, education is the best method.
Same here. Very petty that Peugeot driver was and his number plate is visible on video so I'm sure he'll get some recognition. I've come across idiots like him on the road going in the wrong lane to queue jump then actually catching up to them at a set of traffic lights 😂
Thanks for the content all year. I returned back to driving this year after seven years off the road and some of the clips helped me brush up my driving skills. Merry Xmas :)
I no imagine I have Ashley in the passenger seat of my car. It helps me to anchor my calmness, to focus on anticipation and doing the right thing to improve safety and flow. My horn use is practically zero now and I am more forgiving and accommodating of others' mistakes, as well as reducing own mistakes through appropriate speed, awareness and reading other drivers. Ashley, don't ever stop being a great influence.
19:52 - Half the time, when I praise someone for not letting a developing hazard fluster them, their response is "Oh? That's because I didn't notice!".
@James Stewart We all make mistakes and miss things time to time, Observers and Masters Distinction drivers included! I try to keep a close eye on the mirrors that associates are using, but even when they've looked right into the mirror, you can't be sure they've seen what's there. I think some drivers have a nasty habit of casting their eyes to the mirrors, but not actually taking in or processing the information that's available to them.
5:24 Darwin award waiting to happen - cyclist with no helmet, no lights, dark clothing going round the roundabout the wrong way and riding no handed at the beginning!
Good work with all of the content this year Ashley. It's an interesting insight into what goes on on the roads every day. If I had to pick a favourite of the lot I think I'd go for Jared's Dad, which showcases a slither of bad driving and then a good old fashioned British telling off. Jared still hasn't recovered.

Ashley a great compilation of clips, some quite frightening to see. I know you said about behaviour towards driving school vehicles seemed worse this year but I think driving standards seem to be getting worse year on year every year. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Generally overtaking or undertaking on roundabouts is unwise your only on them for a very short time time anyway, make haste after roundabouts, nearly all the accidents on roundabouts were a result of overtaking or undertaking.
@@Seanmcdhuibhne I try to avoid being alongside drivers in case they do change lane but undertaking and overtaking means you are ending up alongside someone which only makes your own safety more at risk.

Great compilation Ashley and I remember seeing most of these the first time around Regarding your parting comment of "I hope 2021 is a LITTLE better for people." Surely you meant "massively" better Ash? 🙂
@ 6:20 - body language of the SUV screamed at me that he was going to straight line the roundabout. @ 8:20 - love this, reading the road correctly on the part of the learner & instructor gives a smooth journey and just winds up Mr Silly in the SUV. The 'must get in front' syndrome isn't just learner drivers, it's the same if you are towing a trailer (before you ask it's a twin axle car transporter I tow).
As someone who has been driving for 20 years, seeing all this learner abuse is sickening. I recently did my CBT and I am currently riding to get experience and there is no doubt the learner abuse is real. Stay safe everyone and have a good christmas.
Great clips as always. I've been watching your channel since I got my license here in Melbourne, Australia. I think you would be shocked at what goes on here. Hope in the new year, you can feature more clips from outside the UK! (and in Australia! ha ha)
@@ashley_neal I was about to ask the same question. That would be so annoying! To be honest, I feel like that cyclist needs to be hit to knock some sense into him.
Hi Ashley. Thank you for the great videos you have uploaded this year. Interesting to watch and very informative. Look forward to more content from you in 2021. A merry Christmas to you and your family and let’s hope 2021 is a better year for us all
8:29 I genuinely don't understand what goes through some people's heads, how on earth is this how a grown man conducts himself behind a learner? Absolutely shameful.
My heart sank when I saw the clip at 9:38, that's around Sale/Northern Moor way in Manchester, EXACTLY where I work/commute...was terrified I'd been captured doing something stupid 🤣
12:35 I had this happen to me every night for two weeks when I had to use the A1 (Yorkshire) on my moped. I was doing 60mph but it wasn't fast enough for the lorries. Once I even had to move out into the second lane out of fear that the lorry was going to drive into the back of me. I'm sure that the lorry drivers couldn't see me once they got right up to my back wheel. What was even worse is that there's been occasions when the spark plug cap has worked it's way loose which cuts all power to the bike and there's no hard shoulder or safe place to stop along that stretch of the A1. They call themselves professional drivers but most of the time their driving is anything but.
Half a year ago I was driving down a duel carriageway (A-27) and this part of the major road didn't have a pavement on either side of the road. For whatever reason rather than walking through the town of Shoreham like a sensible person would, A man I could only presume was drunk walked along the central reservation against on coming traffic. This person staggering along was enough to scare me to pull over and dial 999, the police operator was very polite and was concerned that I was boarderline in a panic. I phoned into work to report being 10 minutes late before getting out the car and getting fresh air to clear my head.
Thanks for all the videos Ashley, the analysis videos are my favourite as we get to witness some shocking driving but also discuss the decisions made behind the camera. Keep it up :) also rip my diesel shitbox at 6:20...
One thing that gets me Mr Neal is that some of these wrong doers have dash cams themselves and when an incident occurs at they're own fault, they dispute it.
I wish I had a dash cam this morning. As I entered a roundabout, a van was reversing back onto it from a slip road, just so they could take the correct turn. Luckily I caught on pretty quick and the car behind me wasn't too close
24:10 that's very satisfying, knowing that the points will definitely go on her license and the fine will be issued because it caused a definite incident.
I remember being on a motorway when it suddenly started raining really heavily, the wipers couldn't keep up with the rate it was raining and there was a low sun at the same time dazzling me. It was terrifying, I had nice passengers with me who helped keep me calm too, saying I was doing well. It really helped. I am anxious of motorways anyway but after this experience motorways in normal conditions don't seem so bad after all in comparison. It kind of helped to go through this scary experience!
When I had my driving lessons (13 years ago) my instructor told me: always be aware of your surroundings and act like everyone is out to get you! I always drive speed limit and leave enough space for learner cars or motorbikes, cyclists and never tailgate. It drives me crazy when people drive 20- 30 miles under the speed limit though 😅
6:30 sums up modern British roundabout driving - it's a straightoverabout just take the racing line and don't bother to try and go around, same on mini-roundabouts
Ashley your commentary on these videos reminds me of Alistair Stewarts narration on Police, Camera, Action from the 90's... (not that I'm sure you're old enough to remember that ;) ) Ha!
Having lived in a neighbouring town and driven all over the north west, I can honestly say that Liverpool is one of the most dangerous places I've driven.
I'd say that Jarrod at 21:22 was unwise in passing the cyclist coming up to the brow of a hill, Daddy needs to be a bit more realistic after the overtake when he's telling Jarrod "slow down a bit", "you're going a bit fast" - Jarrod was driving between 30mph and 45mph as he was saying that...on a clear road with a posted 50mph limit.
The Good, the Bad and...... who needs a Spaghetti Western when we have Ashley Neal? Well worth reviewing these clips for a variety of reasons.... even if just as a reminder of how not to behave on the road. Stay safe everyone and have a good Christmas..... even those in Tier 4 😿.
The blue Megane at 15.09 was owned by me until June 2020. I sold it to a garage. It still hasn't been taxed, and MOT has run out. Lass driving it must still be getting away with it.
I amazed my wife driving along in the dark through an estate last night. I suddenly slowed down. My wife asked what I'm doing as a young lad wearing all black ran across the road right in front of us without looking. I just about saw a spec move between the parked cars. His clothes are that dark you can barely make him out on the dashcam.
Gods, the guy at 2:15..... I find it hard to believe that he is an IAM member..... That was seriously dangerous, bullying the car in front, then clearly exhibiting signsof road rage. He really shouldn't even be on the road at all. Let alone as a fellow IAM member.
What's peoples view on mandatory front and rear dash cams? I wonder why insurance company's are not mandating them. I think it would clear up many of the driving problems we have
Question for you Ashley, what's your view on these electric scooters that are often used on the roads these days? I am concerned that those riding them often show little care and attention for themselves, let alone others. Not had any issues whilst driving (touch wood) but one nearly ran into me on the pavement at the corner of vauxhall Road and Leeds Street a week ago
You should've bought trophies for each category and then allowed us to vote for our favourite clip from each selection. It could be the new Oscars for driving cockwombles. Better yet, you could've offered prizes for each section too like a free roasting from Jared's dad, free plumbing from Alan Goddard or a free drag race from the ex-IAM driver Your commentary for these clips has been legendary all year but I think your commentary at 23:21 deserves some kind of special recognition - excellent use of wit. The only disappointment from the whole video? Not one red light jumper. :(
23:22 - how about the fact he shot across three lanes of traffic at once to catch the exit he clearly didn't prepare for in good time? It's a fucking miracle nobody was hurt!
There really is, some quite scary people on our roads. No need people; just chill. Have a lovely Xmas and a happy New Year, to all the nice people out there 🙏🏻 The rest can just do one!
Hello, Ashley. I'm enjoying your videos as a new subscriber, driving again after 35 years. Did the driver do something wrong at 26:34? Slightest action at too high a speed on a wet road? Thanks. Watching from down here 🦘
I think some of those motorway roundabout ones are down to Google Maps. Many a time have I been driving somewhere unfamiliar and it’s shown to be in the middle lane, only to then say first exit on approach (thanks Google for making me go around a roundabout I didn’t need to).
Back in 2008 13 days after passing my test on a summers evening I was following a tractor pulling a plow over the double white lines for a couple miles. Admittedly I was getting impatient and at the right turn which is placed as a left hand bend in the road. I turned right as was hit by a micra travelling in the opposite direction. The crash was huge throwing my clio around and around 8 or 9 times on its wheels my passenger came away with long term mobility issues and physio… I admit I was to close to the tractor and took full responsibility. I now live in rural Shropshire/Wales boarder where tractors are everywhere… just to conclude I was sent on a driver improvement and defensive driving course and never looked back…
Regarding the ‘too fast too furious ‘ video I agree with you 100%. I’m very doubtful that the canner is a member of the IAM, if he was he wouldn’t drive the way he does. He’ll end up getting a punch in the mouth if he continues!
Jarrod's clip has got to be my favourite. It's so close to being a comedy sketch. I think we can all relate to being told off by our dads like that.
@James Stewart.... Well if he's not man enough to take criticism about his driving, perhaps he shouldn't.

Luckily I caught on pretty quick and the car behind me wasn't too close
funny to see two clips on Ecclesall road south in Sheffield within about half a mile apart going opposite directions haha
Who ever was in that storm did exceedingly well to keep it out of the barriers.
They were going far too fast for the conditions.
@@tjfSIM true but regardless nice save. Not defending the fast pace but good save.
It's been a bumper year literally. Stay safe out there.
24:10 that's very satisfying, knowing that the points will definitely go on her license and the fine will be issued because it caused a definite incident.
12:01 - thought I recognised the area before the hopewells and planet bounce, big up the fellow notts viewers
Some of these driving fails have given me a heart attack 😂
26:52 at first I didn't see where the van went!
Merry Christmas Ashley
Merry Christmas Finlay!
6:30 sums up modern British roundabout driving - it's a straightoverabout just take the racing line and don't bother to try and go around, same on mini-roundabouts
At 6:00 your favourite clip, it near my work in york people always get that roundabout wrong using the left lane to around
Nice to see the silver Clio use an emergency stop...👍
These clips could put off people who lack confidence on the road!
20:26 that looks similar to one of the CGI hazard clips I got in my test
Love these videos, why does Ashley call them Cama though?
The Good, the Bad and...... who needs a Spaghetti Western when we have Ashley Neal?
Well worth reviewing these clips for a variety of reasons.... even if just as a reminder of how not to behave on the road.
Stay safe everyone and have a good Christmas..... even those in Tier 4 😿.
Hehe, well put at the beginning! 😂
@@ClaireYunFarronXIII ⚡ only the beginning? loool.....
Hope to see you upload soon as I'm getting withdrawal symptoms already 😊
@@grahamnutt8958 Hehe, your first sentence was hilarious. 😂 Videos will be coming soon to help with that. 🤗

Great compilation thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
The blue Megane at 15.09 was owned by me until June 2020.
I think it would clear up many of the driving problems we have
@James Stewart if you can afford a car, tax and insurance you can afford £50~ for a dashcam, they normally pay for themselves many times over
Question for you Ashley, what's your view on these electric scooters that are often used on the roads these days? I am concerned that those riding them often show little care and attention for themselves, let alone others. Not had any issues whilst driving (touch wood) but one nearly ran into me on the pavement at the corner of vauxhall Road and Leeds Street a week ago
You should've bought trophies for each category and then allowed us to vote for our favourite clip from each selection. It could be the new Oscars for driving cockwombles.
Better yet, you could've offered prizes for each section too like a free roasting from Jared's dad, free plumbing from Alan Goddard or a free drag race from the ex-IAM driver
Your commentary for these clips has been legendary all year but I think your commentary at 23:21 deserves some kind of special recognition - excellent use of wit.
The only disappointment from the whole video? Not one red light jumper. :(
23:22 - how about the fact he shot across three lanes of traffic at once to catch the exit he clearly didn't prepare for in good time? It's a fucking miracle nobody was hurt!
cutting over the Chevrons in the process.....
There really is, some quite scary people on our roads. No need people; just chill.
Have a lovely Xmas and a happy New Year, to all the nice people out there 🙏🏻 The rest can just do one!
This would make a great tv show
5:57 the audio is so perfectly fitting lol
Love this compelation video to end the year. Just sad this is what us drivers have to see and deal with on the roads
Great content as always!
Have you got your damage repaired yet? And if so, who's insurance picked up the tab?
The car is in for repair at the moment! Third party insurance is picking up the tab!
8:25 - I swear some people just turn into primary school kids when they get into a car. Ridiculous.
5:54 the test centre in york is right there in frame too, how ironic.

Hello, Ashley. I'm enjoying your videos as a new subscriber, driving again after 35 years. Did the driver do something wrong at 26:34? Slightest action at too high a speed on a wet road? Thanks. Watching from down here 🦘
Aquaplaning went too fast through a slippery puddle.
26.05... unfortunate title shortening in the top right Ashley! :)
@23:20 the wee red car moving from right lane to left took the exit driving over the road markings, i think that's maybe what the clip was showing
To round out the year, I thought we would also have a few red light jumpers :)
I do enjoy how 5:55 is directly outside York Test Centre.
7:24, Is this a screenshot of my car in GTA 5?
I think some of those motorway roundabout ones are down to Google Maps. Many a time have I been driving somewhere unfamiliar and it’s shown to be in the middle lane, only to then say first exit on approach (thanks Google for making me go around a roundabout I didn’t need to).
20:50 I never ride through urban areas like this. Too many 'sporty types' try to ride as if it's 'La Tour' and the roads have been cleared.
I now live in rural Shropshire/Wales boarder where tractors are everywhere… just to conclude I was sent on a driver improvement and defensive driving course and never looked back…
Nice intro scenery 👌
Regarding the ‘too fast too furious ‘ video I agree with you 100%.
I’m very doubtful that the canner is a member of the IAM, if he was he wouldn’t drive the way he does. He’ll end up getting a punch in the mouth if he continues!
