Rowan Atkinson has a stutter, which causes him to struggle with the letter 'B.' He has to visualise the letter before he says it - which is why he puts extra emphasis on words containing that letter. Eg Bob. Later he created the character Mr. Bean (1990) for this reason.
Fascinating what a nice beard, sharp wit and some Elizabethan era clothing can do to a man. Blackadder looks... really handsome. I'd say steaming hot but that must be my love for scalding smackdowns, sarcastic remarks and dry humour talking. (Although tbh Melchett and Baldrick look better in this season than in any other, so maybe it **is** just the facial hair and clothes.)
I think one of my favourite lines in “Chains” (this is ONE there are loads I love) was “Ludwig was a master of disguise...well as Nursie is a sad insane old woman with an udder fixation.” 😂
"she drags me all the way from billingsgate to Richmond to play the weakest practical joke since cardinal wolsey got his knob out at Hampton Court....... And stood at the end of the passage pretending to be a door"
Blackadder II is such a step-up to Blackadder 1. I found the first season always so hard to get through because the first Blackadder was so unlikable (maybe intended). But Blackadder II is witty and intelligent.
We have watched Blackadder Christmas Carol every Christmas season for the past 30 years. We know it by heart but we still laugh. Blackadder is classic.
I wish this had subs so much! audio quality is what it is with old shows and it's hard to pick up on everything for someone who doesn't have english as their first language with a hard unfamiliar accent :(
I completely agree with Lion Man's comment that the writing for Blackadder was top notch. One must pay close attention to the dialogue to pick up on the cleverly hidden jokes and innuendos in typical English style humor. Indeed, Rowan Atkinson seemed to have been in his element while he played Blackadder.
Watched this show as a kid.. I'm absolutely glad I did, developed quite the wit and humor, just without the cynicism.. well.. too much anyways. Loved this show, and I hate that I threw away my CD that had all the episodes
l think its all summed up in his name...He wasn't called blackadder for nothing...Cos even when he's confronted or looks doomed....He always manages to sliver outta of it. and at the same time make himself look good and his enemies like idiots..lol
You missed my favourite... "And seasons greetings to you lord Blackadder... May the Yule tide log slip from your fire and burn your house down". - Lord Melchett (Blackadders Christmas Carol)
Best writing for any sit-com that I have seen.
6 brilliant actors at the peak of their powers in this British comic masterpiece.
Part of BBC folklore.
Which 6?.. I noticed only 4 lead actors
Edmund, Percy, Baldrick, Queenie, Melchett and Nursie would be the six lead characters I presume.
I love how they mercilessly Mock Shakespearean plays throughout.
I think Blackadder is Rowan Atkinson's finest work. I love a bitter and sarcastic comic.
"Baldrick, I would advise you to make the explanation you are about to give phenomenally good."
Such phenomenal delivery...
You said get the door

The writing for Blackadder was top-notch.
Ok
Not forgetting his tremendous delivery too
"Ohhh God it's pathetic."
It hasn't been bettered yet
Plus brilliant actors to make the most of it
Ben Elton 🙂
The eyes r open, the mouth moves but Mr. Brain has long since departed😂😂😂😂
Could talking about Trump!
The very best one, among strong competition.
Basically Mr bean
A phrase I use more and more these days!
@@matan8074 Mr. Bean has phenomenal problem solving skills. His methods though are unconventional.
“Just a wild stab in the dark, which is incidentally what you’ll be getting if you don’t start being a bit more helpful”
The whole "wise woman" scene is brilliant....same with the leech-obsessed doctor.
@@lilymarinovic1644Absolutely classic !
This show completely shaped my sense of humour as a kid.
I die in 12 hours, what I really need now Is a hug from a complete Pratt 😂😂😂😂

But it must be so little that i cant even hear it. I thought his speech was perfect and an epitome of English speaking.
No wonder he was considered for the role of Brains in the cancelled 1998 Thunderbirds film.
I've personally theorised that he was Mr. Bean because a bean would be a very small brain indeed, however this sounds just as likely.
Not a lot of people know that. Nor do they want to. What twaddle.
He's a West Ham fan
Jane "Burry me in a Y shaped coffin" Harrington...🤣🤣🤣
"Goes like a privy door when the plague is in town?"
"Get a move on! He's a prostitute, not an agony aunt"! 😆
No matter how many times I've seen that clip, it always makes me laugh.
Excellent.
Blackadder provided me and my family with lifelong jokes.

Rowan Atkinson was plainly born to wear Elizabethan clothes!
You are right he looks hot in this season

But Rowan's delivery is also funny
Its written by rowan and ben Elton i think
The first series was written by Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson. Series 2 - 4 were Richard Curtis and Ben Elton.
Missed one out - “Goes like a privvy door when the plague's in town?” describing Percy’s girlfriend!
Ben Elton and Rowen Atkinson....genius!
Blackadder 2 is by far the best. Its a shame there's only 6 of them.
GTFO! I thought they stopped at 4!
Love the Cardinal Wolseley pretending to be a door quip.
Bullet with my name on it is my favorite scene but BOB is referenced the most in my house 🤣
He was really handsome in season 2!

My thoughts on the entire human race
“If you weren't quite so big, it'd be time for Mr. and Mrs. Spank to pay a short sharp trip to Bottyland” - Nursie

British comedy will always be the superior kind of comedy, both new AND old
American office is still better

would the so-called humor today be as inventive as such as Blackadder, plus British humor is true humor
