I think the reason why they did things differently from ET is because new players didn't know that aimpunch was only visual. Easy way around this is to do what BF3 does and have it so your screen moves up but your crosshair stays where you're aiming. As for countering snipers, there are other mechanics you could use like having it so shooting a sniper unscopes them. In any case, I still get headshotted by snipers all the time while I'm repeatedly shooting them in the head so apparently it's not a very reliable counter.
i love aimpunch. im not a single click shooter so i rely on my hochfir's higher rate of fire. basically if two players are fairly even the one that got the first shot has advantage "just like real life". My only question is does it affect turrets? like if i run into a corner and hit the turret first. do i get that window of advantage?
So if I program aim punch in my game, it should only affect what the player can actually adjust for, as in visual recoil and movement of the crosshair. It should NOT affect their spread, period, correct? Because if I have the format the way I want it, I will likely have Sniper Rifles in some form, and I do want a small counter to them where if you spot them first you can actually throw off their aim.

Having your crosshair jump up when you get shot is something that can be learned. You can't learn to play against randomness... Because it's random. Like when she mentioned recoil in CS:GO. Although it's near impossible to actually see whilst playing, and the crosshair doesn't show it at all, each gun has a specific recoil pattern that can be learned. A good player can learn those patterns and counter them to get more accuracy when spraying. If those recoil patterns were entirely random, that wouldn't be possible and it would make CS:GO a very shitty game. So it's not necessarily about how visible the effect is, but how it allows interaction from both players and factors both players' skills in the outcome. With the aimpunch in this video, the player who gets shot first is instantly at a disadvantage that they cannot overcome no matter how skilled they are at the game compared to the other player.

i had never heard of aim punch before this, but after hearing you describe it i think its fucking awesome.. in a well coordinated team it seems to me like its a great game mechanic to exploit on both sides. sounds like it could save lives, it deffinatly brings some more meaning to covering fire in a fps
best explanation of y i do like aim punch is go play paintball and get hit you flinch even if your tracking is on your body might not respond the way you want and twitch because of getting hit . same thing they replicate in the game basicly aim punch is the effect of the game saying hey your hit / flinch . and yes they need to fine tune it to be a more controllable factor . if they made the screen and cross jump but if you could move the mouse back quick enough to not affect the shot as much it would be better (closer to being shot in airsoft or paintball ) ya flinch and may miss but they amount on db is a bit to much . just a thought

I see what your saying, but I feel like it fits in Dirtybomb. You still have to put into account that the movement level in DB is much more complicated than a game like cs. It's usually the player with better movement and skill that wins the gun fight. Also there is a ADS system that somewhat helps the problem. The feature is to lower the skill gap for a more broad audience of players, but I don't think it really hurts in a game like DB imo. Kinda gives the games shooting mechanics some personality.

My question is, will you be doing some advanced tutorials etc? I want to learn as much about the game as possible, all the nade spots, strategies etc... Also is there a way to play with you? I´d love to get better but its just hard with all these lvl 5 players against me shooting walls and shit
NoFiSplay I would say go into min level 10 servers, but right now quick join is broken and all min level 10 servers are dead. Hopefully when then fix that next week you should be able to hop on empty min level 10s and get people rolling in quick.
I only feel like it should affect snipers. or maybe if you aim down sights. That way you won't shoot a sniper and he can perfectly one shot kill you with perfect aim while getting shot at. In DB i think the defense has waay to big an advantage especially in maps like underground, atleast in that first stage of the map. when 8 people just camp inside the house.
1 thing I will say about your conclusion at 12:25 (and I realise this is 9 months old), is I don't believe the enemy territory method will work. Sadly people will always avoid this kind of thing by using a custom marker in the middle of their screen, mumble I believe allows you to place an overlay with a dot right at the center. This will mean anyone who doesn't use these kind of things will be at a severe disadvantage, more so than the current system. Personally I believe using external software to give you an advantage like this is most certainly against the spirit of the game, if not outright cheating, but I'm not exactly sat in an overwhelming majority here, so this kind of thing will not change. In regards to aimpunch in general, I'm not generally against it, I agree with your summary for why it works in other games, but I feel it does serve a purpose in Dirty Bomb, and should still be a factor. I do think you are right it is too severe in Dirty Bomb, especially given TTK (there are times I've literally drawn a sillouhette of my target on the wall because of it). My personal thoughts are the horizontal punch is too hard, and should be the focus. Vertical recoil can be compensated for with a reasonable amount of control and skill, but given the speed players run and strafe in this game, horizontal spread is incredibly damaging to your DPS, and this wild back and forth with your bullets just ruins any chance you had of making your target. I know most people hate aimpunch and of course it's never fun to have to you. But i don't mind it too much, perhaps they could tone it down some more. But you have to be careful because weapons are so precise and good players will just destroy public servers. Not that i'm saying that the game should be balanced for public... but it is what 99% of games happen on, so it definitely needs to be taken into account. We all want a relatively skillbased game but there are ways to turn around a fight and movement plays a lot bigger part in DB than CS, for example you can get out of his crosshair, re align your aim and turn the punch on the enemy. I don't necessarily like it that much, but i think the game would perhaps become too hardcore for most players nowadays. They do need to somehow make it less frustrating, perhaps you are right and it should only be visual.. I'm unsure, but i'd like to test both. I think perhaps the fights would end too fast without aimpunch, because a lot of good players have insane aim. It is a major change though and i would probably enjoy the "only visual" style a lot better, but i doubt most of the players who meet you or me on public would think that. I guess that's why there's max lvl 5 and min 10 servers though.
I hate when aimpunch affects me but not my enemie, specially when im using assault rifles because they seem to have more recoil then most smg's... fucked up.. :\
