Having a calm moment in the oak forest, making the Advent wreath and baking "Powidl-Datschgerl".
Powidl-Datschgerl recipe
• 350 g flour (I used spelt flour)
• 60 g sugar (originally it is a lot more sugar, but I find the plum jam filling sweet enough)
• 15 g yeast
• ⅛ l milk
• 60 g butter
• plum jam (Powidl)
• 1 egg yolk (safe the egg white for the finish)
• 1 lemon
• a pinch of salt
Warm up the milk and mix all the ingredients with the zest of a quarter of a untreated lemon in a bowl with a wooden spoon to form a smooth dough. Put the dough on a board and knead it with your hands to form a silky dough. Leave to rest for half an hour. Then roll it out, cut it into rounds, fill it with 1-2 teaspoons of plum jam (Powidl) depending on the size, press it together firmly and leave it to rise for 20 minutes. Brush with egg white and bake at 170 degrees for approx. 15-25 minutes.

Making an advent wreath is one of my most favourite things... it's actually a complex activity - from finding the right branches (we mostly use fir and thuja) in the forest to gifting the spare material to friends (as a little bouqet) and bringing the "waste" back to the forest since we have no garden. I love the late November walks when I search for cut branches as the foresters cut these or whole young trees before the winter comes.
Here the foresters also cut off lots of branches and they lie around in the forest, I also like to use them instead of cutting new one! I will soon write you more! Much love!
Beautiful, as always. I love how you have candles burning, it's so atmospheric. Those plum turnovers look amazing, I will try to make some since I have a jar of my dad's homemade plum jam in the fridge at the moment which would be perfect. You capture the beauty and melancholy of this time of year perfectly.
Homemade plum jam is the best! I brought the plum turnovers to my family so they were gone very quickly. I think of making some more this week for my husband and me. Have a lovely day!
We have missed the misty weather here so far this year during the late Autumn and even now in the early winter the sky is mostly bright in the morning. When will you have snow? Beautifully filmed and melancholy with perfect music! 😃It is not easy to make such a nice Advent Wreath and yours look nice. Good to see biscuits with not too much sugar, yes the jam is enough to sweeten.
We had just a little bit of snow so far, that did only stay shorty on the ground, but I hope soon we will have more! I love making our own Advent wreath and am happy that I did not miss to make one this year. Sometimes the first Advent comes so quickly that I forget to prepare! Yes, I don't like when cookies or pastries are so sweet, I always adjust the amount and it is still so sweet! Have a good start into the new week + thank you for stopping by!
