I am a Buddhist yet i don't fully know and understand the teaching. Thank you KBS for uploading this documentary. Keep it up.
I love the teachings of Buddhism. I live and breath it. I can't imagine not knowing Lord Buddha's doctrines on how to live this life. I have suffered so much and if it were not for the applications of Buddha's teachings I wouldn't be so carefree and genuinely happy as I am. In the middle of chaos, I understand Law of Cause and Effect and emptiness, the Heart Sutra. Applying these teachings into my life has molded me into a confident and peaceful person. My relationship with people has changed for the better in that I see other's as I see myself, both seeking contentment and both basically empty at the same time. Its been quite a journey thus far and I am constantly being tested... sometimes I have to laugh out loud at the absurdity of how much I am tested. Just keep going forward and know that everything is okay.
Excellent! I rejoice in your realizations!
🙏💕♥️❤️
Ty for sharing. I an understanding much better w how much I learn through teachings.
Love Buddha’s teaching. Try to practice his teaching everyday.
Amazing. Proud to be a buddhist. Really touching. From Bali Indonesia 🙏
Proud to be buddhist juga dari Jakarta🙏🏻🙏🏻😊😊
Watching this even before halfway through its entirety, I already click the Like-button. But when it's about to finish, I find even more from it ---> I Love it. I shed tears when they wrote a letter to themselves, and when they graduated. This is most inspiringly humbling, yet spiritually enriching. Thank you very much for making this documentary video and sharing it to us. ❤⚘
I really broke down when nuns cried 😢. The monks and nuns are also human. They do hv feelings, mission, personal wish. I sometimes wonder if this monastic ppl repents after renouncing world.b
I really enjoyed watching this and learning more about South Korean culture. Please upload more of these types of documentaries even if they are not done in the English language. I will be happy enough with English subtitles :D
So interesting and inspiring, showing us that remembering the importance of spiritual practice, the eating of local fresh vegetarian foods and the practice of a simple lifestyle can really be the way to long-lasting change. Thanks KBS. 🌸
This should be mandatory for all world Government Officials, too many of them sit on too high a pedestal and indulgence, forgetting the reason and people who put them there.
Just my two cents ^_^
Actually in Western countries like the US they have implemented some Buddhist teachings in several schools like practicing mindfulness and it has helped the students.
TheEastWind Not all of those Politicians are Buddhist, you know.
I agree with TheEastWind. You can also meditate and lead a humble life without being Buddhist. Our greedy politicians should do that for 1 week a year.
Absolutely captivated for 45 minutes! Temple Food and a Disciplined Lifestyle were the key ingredients here! Simply wonderful! Would love to attend!
20:56 it really amazes me, teachings of keeping the water clean even after cleaning every individuals' food bowl in a shared environment, and sharing the same water to drink.
Tough teachings and even tougher in practice.
Purifying the mind is a toughest work on this planet!
Very inspired and motivated especially the participants, who persevered to achieve their goals. If we all can do this, this can be a better World.
The key ingredients were Temple Food and a Disciplined Lifestyle. What a wonderful documentary this was! Having been a therapist in a 28 day substance abuse treatment center, I can testify to the life changing modality used here! However in this case the prime mover was the Buddhist practice found in this temple! Would absolutely love to attend one of these training classes!!! I was captivated for 45 minutes!
i love this documentary. makes you realize what they have as well.
If there isn't so much difference between Korean and Indian lifestyle, I would have taken this short term course ASAP. I wouldn't mind the gruelling sessions, if it would put me back on track. Thanks for this video. With great respect, admiration and love from India. PEACE 🇮🇳🇰🇷
Thank you for this wonderful documentary !
Discovered by chance after 10 years of its making 😅
Namo Buddhaya 🙏🏼😌
Thank you for this wonderful look into Temple food and buddhist traditions and the lovely people of South Korea.

One of the greates documentaries I've ever seen. Thank those who have created such a beautiful source of knowledge and the ones who share here:)
I know I have & do think in a critical way about leaders. The thing that most causes me to rethink my critique of others is the idea to only look @ my own bowl.
Also, the whole philosophy reminds me to speak in positive ways. This is will effect those around me.
Like the little girl said, so much to remember!
Beautiful documentary. Thanks to everyone who participate to its making :)
I would do that just to visit the temple, it looks really nice
May all beings find peace and happiness and be free from suffering
Great documentary.thanks for uploading.
Great Documentary.
Loved it! You should upload more videos like this ♥
Thank you for sharing. I am very moved to watch this.
Beautiful, inspiring spiritual guidance in a magnificent setting, I would love to go there one day and do the training.
Beautiful documentry ! ❤
Thx for this wonderful documentary, please upload more documentary in English.
00:24 I've never seen this image before! Nature is ever Beautiful.
Would gladly to experience that too. :)
great documentary!
Very nice and motivational video...thanx.🙏... loved it
I would love to visit this places. So calm and intoxicating...... Om mane padme hum!
Thank you very much for making this documentary
People criticize the seriousness of the practice but don't bat an eye if this was a martial arts temple despite the fact that both have common origins. This is a non coercive relationship and you go into these types of monastic boot camps knowing it's not for everyone.
Great practice
beautiful! Want more of these!
Beautiful and inspiring
thank you for sharing
Amazing documentary! it would be awesome to try something like this and just get to know oneself better. I wonder if they have these sort of programs for foreigners too?
Yes, it's called 'temple stay', but they are usually shorter.
That was so beautiful!
Aqui uma Budista brasileira! frequento templo taiwanês. Gostaria muito de conhecer templos Budistas Coreanos. Namo Fo 🙏🙏🙏

This video is great 👌
Truly amazing.. . . thank you. .
I wanna try this as well, it's meaningful and hopefully I can be a better person after as well ☺️
I feel happy to it ------------------to get chance to participated
Yes the discipline 🙏
This is kind of a militant version of what it should be.
I am getting teary :')
It is quite interesting approach, quite unique! Do you have to be buddhist ? What is the costs of this training? And how long might the whole training last actually ? Very very interesting indeed.
Another way of life, life offering different options . .
They look beautiful with their newly shaved heads.
Its so beautiful watching Jeong Kwan cook, I never saw preparing food as such a meditative act.
Wtffff u r kidding me right? Your awareness is shit
Namo buddhayo 🙏🙏🙏🌹🌹🌹
Upload more please :)
So nice buddhism in korea.plz buddhist monk should be pureveg and live simple life. Buddha said if you don't have any food to eat then you can eat meat. This comment is from the land of buddha lumbini nepal.
thanks, KBS!

could it be that the illusory activity of the self, endeavoring to change itself or discover itself, is like taking a mirage for something real
I want to apply too.
Crikey! All seems rather severe...interesting stuff.
such an interesting documentary; thankyou for uploading!
Great;)
Are there more Korean Buddhist documentaries from KBS or BTN with the English language or with English Subtitles? Thank you.
🙏🙏🙏
proud to be i m buddhist
It's sad that Korean Buddhism is dying slowly in the face of a rapidly evolving , materialistic society in the grip of western hedonism, abrahamic monotheistic tendencies. I hope Buddha Dharma is Korea can be revitalized, reinvigorated to show the path to common korean people's suffering ; misery.
Why do monks wear watches? The basic skill of being a monk is to tell time from nature

Hello! Do you know a website or any place which sells Korean Baru bowls that are used in Baru Gongyang? Japanese oryoki are easy to buy, but Korean Baru bowls are nowhere to be found. This is a pity.
The food is fascinating. The fermented tofu they showed is probably one of the only sources of vitamin B12 along with the seaweed in the pancakes. In Korea, Japan, and coastal China fermented soy and seaweed are both common foods, but now I wonder how Chinese monks at inland temples traditionally got B12.
Incidentally, there is no soul and no self in Buddhism. The description of meditation and introspection is nice, but can't be accurate.
😊❤🍀
Arent we all just looking for guidance?
Well said. Yes, because most of us are like sheep. Some find it in military, some in religious temples.

The head monks were glaring when that guy was sick and didn't come to meal.
I'm planning to join temple stay for 2days1night. do i have to shave my head too?
No cut ..free style
that's mean i don't have to shave my hair? thanks for answering.
1703cathe you shaved your hair didn't you :(
Tidak harus...
i hope bhudism not dying in korea, korean citizen now seems really arrogant & looking down to others.

11:10 She's age 22?
It's like a prison. Even to the color of the garb. Also, it's really gross that the cook/monk mixes everything with her hands, could have dirty fingernails or her hands might not be the cleanest. It's especially problematic that she tastes by dipping her hand into product and then reaches back again with her saliva on her hands. If it was her own home and her own food it would be ok, but she's feeding a lot of other people. Who knows where her hands have been, and who knows what kind of diseases she might have, unknown to her, not that she would want to pollute the foods.
seems you suffer and instead of bettering yourself try to push others down
in advance : it won't help you and make you only more miserable
@@tatjana7008 It's called hygiene and food safety. We practice that in the US. We have laws to keep our people alive and safe
😒🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Starvation diet. Full of nutrition my arse.
Fat man
This reminded me of a cult or a POW camp. It seemed cruel and oriented toward punishing people. What does forcing people to drink dishwater have to do with finding yourself or enlightenment? I think Buddha was more into kindness and compassion than suffering and discipline. I personally would have left after one day of this BS. Did they actually PAY for this nonsense? An outstanding characteristic of cult members is that they are willing to put up with abuse because they think they need fixing. This organization selects their prey carefully and works that angle.
So the new students are forced into rigid schedules, conformity, and subjected to established rituals in order to free their minds?
- all seated in well defined rows in the main hall
- all needed to have their heads shaved
- all needed to be blessed with holy water from a tree branch
- all eat the exact same food selection, using the same number of bowls.
- all eat at fixed hours of the day
- all must do exactly as the supervising monk say, or else he would get angry
How are all these things different than the ego world from which they are trying to escape.
Not once did any of the monks gave a warm smile to the high anxiety ridden students. Where is the compassion?
To free the mind , one of the things to let go is the rigid scheduling we are accustomed to in the real world. Another is to drop the ego mind concept of hierarchy. And another is to drop conformity, which goes against our individuality and free will.
To have inner peace is not simply to abandon all materialistic things to shed greed. If artistic painting makes you happy, why throw away all your paint brushes and stop painting? Being happy and joyful are very powerful light energies - just look how happy the whole class was when the girl started singing during "free time". Inner peace comes when you, with pure intent, believe and connect with your true self within and it then benevolently guides you through life via heightened intuition and synchronicity. You will become more humble and grateful as you transition to a more mature mindset. The harsh bumps in life no longer pull you into drama and inner turmoil, instead they become welcome lessons to gain more wisdom and maturity. Your become much calmer as you begin to understand some of the Truths in this matrix reality.
Discover and embrace your true divine magnificent self within and all other things will come to you for inner peace.
All the best!
It’s called training and building self-discipline. Buddhism says that all life is suffering and part of what causes our suffering is desire/attachments. Therefore they need to train themselves to let go of worldly desires/attachments by doing these practices based on buddha's teaching.
How can you teach someone to let go of worldly desire if you're picky about using the same bowls? You are just being materialistic.
They shave their head is part of the ritual for monks because of celibacy.
The key point here is getting rid of attachments. And what you're proposing is far off from Buddhism. So I don't think you understand Buddhist philosophy at all. It is a form of religion.
Do you know what the ultimate goal of Buddhism is? It's to be enlightened/reach nirvana which is very difficult-hence the rigid practices. This is showing how the monks live and what you're proposing is for everyday people.
Also finding the authentic self doesn't equivalate to having inner peace. You can know yourself and still be miserable by greed/desires. 😂 I mean, who said being your authentic self is always good? (That is if you are just being pretentious) You can be authentic to yourself and be a murderer.
