New 1.5-liter EA211 TSI® engine in Jetta models gives greater efficiency and power; Jetta GLI models retain the potent 2.0-liter EA888 engine
Jetta is available across four trims with new Sport model featuring 17-inch wheels and XDS® differential; GLI comes fully loaded
New exterior elements include re-styled front and rear, three new metallic finishes, and trim-specific aluminum-alloy wheels
Revised interior features standard Volkswagen Digital Cockpit and Car-Net® telematics with Wi-Fi capability
Front Assist, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Traffic Alert now standard on Jetta; IQ.DRIVE® driver assistance technology available on Jetta and standard on GLI (automatic models only)
Jetta MSRP starts at $20,365 for S manual, Jetta GLI MSRP starts at $31,295 for Autobahn manual
The Jetta has defined affordable German engineering for more than four decades, spending more than three of them as Volkswagen’s best-selling model. In 2022, the torchbearer is refreshed, with new technology and styling elevating both the value-oriented Jetta and the sporty Jetta GLI.
Among the most important updates to the 2022 Jetta is the adoption of the 1.5-liter turbocharged and direct-injection EA211 engine found in the recently launched Taos compact SUV. Offering an ideal combination of low-speed torque and competitive fuel economy, the EA211 is mated to a six-speed manual or a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the Jetta GLI is powered by Volkswagen’s EA888 turbocharged direct-injection 2.0-liter engine, which produces 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard and a seven-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission is optional.
The refreshed Jetta and GLI models get a style update with new front and rear bumpers, new colors and new wheels. In the front, standard LED headlights frame a redesigned grille. New available exterior colors and unique wheels on each trim level also up the visual ante.
Inside, the Jetta and GLI boast upgraded technology and driver assistance features. The Volkswagen Digital Cockpit instrument cluster now comes standard, as does Volkswagen Car-Net® with in-car Wi-Fi capability when you subscribe to a data plan. On top Jetta trims and the GLI, wireless charging and wireless App-Connect for compatible devices are standard. Base Jetta models come standard with Front Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, and Rear Traffic Alert. IQ.DRIVE® driver assistance technology is available from the Jetta S trim and up (automatic models only), and is standard on GLI.
The 2022 Jetta is offered in four levels: S, SE, SEL, and a new Sport trim. Jetta Sport models offer a great value and enthusiast-inspired content, like the XDS® Cross Differential System, two-tone machined 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, black exterior and interior trim, and sport seats. The GLI is now offered in one fully-loaded trim.
The new EA211 engine can be mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic® shifting. Jetta models with the standard six-speed manual transmission have an EPA-estimated rating of 29 mpg city, 43 mpg highway, and 34 mpg combined. S models equipped with the optional eight-speed automatic transmission have an EPA-estimated rating of 31 mpg city, 41 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined. SE and SEL models equipped with the optional eight-speed automatic transmission have an EPA-estimated rating of 29 mpg city, 40 mpg highway, and 33 mpg combined.
The Jetta GLI is powered by a Volkswagen EA888 2.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injection TSI® 4-cylinder engine, making 228 horsepower (achieved with premium fuel) and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine features variable valve timing on the intake and exhaust sides, as well as variable exhaust valve lift.
The power is taken to the front wheels via a standard 6-speed manual transmission, with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission available optionally. Models equipped with the optional seven-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission have an EPA-estimated rating of 26 mpg city, 36 mpg highway and 30 mpg combined. All ratings are based on regular unleaded fuel.
All Jetta automatic transmission models come standard with a Start/Stop system designed to help improve fuel efficiency. This technology stops the engine during idle when the brake pedal is held (such as when waiting at a stop light). When the brake pedal is released, the engine restarts.

Good review, I enjoy my 2023 Jetta Sport and it is a good value for such a comfortable and quiet car.
Hey bro what’s up, how things going on with your Jetta? I’m planning to buy one and just wanted to ask
I have a 2023 Comfortline Sport 6 speed on its way (Canada). Honda lost me at 6 speed pricing... got me to look here... and I was so impressed I went with it. First VW. First German car.
i bought 2024 6 speed manual i love it.
just change the oil every 5k miles not 10k like vw says. 10k mile intervals are for people trading their car in every 3 years. other than that the 1.5t is basically bulletproof
Nice video. You covered almost everything about this car. Much appreciated.
Thank you! Here is more details on this vehicle: ua-cam.com/video/OxD8mmWLlqs/v-deo.html
It's unfair to compare the Jetta (small size sedan) to the Accord (midsize). The comparison should be against the Civic.
This will be my dream sedan to own Mike.
wonderful commuter...I've seen my Jetta SE gets up to 46mpg. I'll take that any day!
i think the cars computer is underrated. there was a video i saw where when calculating at the pump it was 54mpg averaging a steady 70mph on the highway across 110 miles. this was the sport with the manual transmission
Have a 2023 VW Taos SE presently Mike after turning in my VW Tiguan SE
❤ it ……but if I were going to get a sedan, it would be this one your reviewing. I have had no problems with VW and I do not drive my vehicles hard.
Some people say the infotainment screen is a bit small, but I just repurposed the magnifying glass from a 1990 Gameboy, and now it works great!
Great video, thank you for the awesome insights of this car model. I am on the fence about it due to the cost of maintenance and the European parts.
I may have misjudged this car a bit. I'd have never known that if not for this video! Thanks Mike!
While I love the Jetta, and back in the 70's, I was a sales manager for a VW dealer in N.Y. equipment wise, the vehicle falls way short of it's competition. You have to go to the SEL to get nav. and satellite radio, which puts the Jetta into medium class cars price wise, not compact.
I have one of these. I love it! However, there is a $500.00 credit on sticker because of chip shortage (blind spot monitoring).
Can u buy a chip at a later date and have it installed? thx!
I’m really thinking I want a ‘23 jetta se. Seems like money well spent. Passenger space seems adequate
It’s a great vehicle
Not a big supporter for small engine (1.5) and Turbo, but maybe try leasing if it fits your budget.......
@@crow_2k11beatsbydre8 engine technology is so good at this point and these turbos are barely being pushed. They are very reliable, some extra maintenance required but amazing gas milage.
If you tune them, the turbo gets pushed a little but you can get 40% performance gain that is not possible in N/A engines.
I would agree that a 2.0T is better though.
@@DMIsREAL Thats your view i will respect that. But turbos will lessen your engines longevity.......
Does Jetta 2022 S and SE have ambient Color inside like SEL and GLI ??
No
Kinda sad to see the Jetta popularity in North America fall, i remember in the 90s and 2000s decade when the Jetta was on par with Corolla, Civic, Sentra, Protege/Mazda 3........
The Tiguan took a lot of those sales
It's an amazing car for the money, people are starting to realize that and these Jettas are getting hard to find right now. I don't see an RPM gauge though, is there another view of the dash?

@MikesCarInfo thank you Mike, I was going to watch that video next, love your reviews. ❤
Good video - but the smooth roads you were driving on are not the reality in much of the U.S.
这两款中控屏幕看着挺美阿
比思域香多了
Road noise is very high!
its like a 22000 dollar car. you would need to buy a luxury car if you are wanting sound insulation from factory. or add it aftermarket for a couple hundred bucks
