I greatly admired legendary broadcaster Lowell Thomas (1892-1981) and had frequent contact with him in the final years of his remarkable career. In the 1970s I recorded a number of his “Lowell Thomas Brings The News” 7 p.m. radio newscasts over CBS Radio. This newscast, which I recorded on Feb. 6, 1976, reports that President Gerald Ford says that economic recovery is on the way with U.S. unemployment taking its biggest drop in 16 years. Also reported, the blind worker of the year has been sending back his Social Security check for 10 years.
