Ahhh the legendary Scrounger. I fished these back in the 70s as a young teen in the Bays of So Cal for Bay Bass, Sand Bass, Halibut and inshore. Was an absolute Cuda killer when burned on the surface. Oddly, I never implemented them for Bass fishing. I have them on hand, they just get overlooked. Maybe it's time to relook at this ol wonderful bait. Great tips 👌
Aaron was definitely one of the best such a humble and nice guy I followed his fishing career from the start and was a big fan of him this video sure did bring back some thought I watched him throwing the scronger and I had to have one like any other lure you think will get you a bite I had forgotten all about them till this video I’ll definitely be in the boat digging them out so thanks for the video really good information
Thanks for the tips Randy. I have a few scrounger heads , but haven't fished them in a long time. They're a great, more subtle option to a chatterbait.
I literally just bought a pack of ⅛oz aaron martens scroungers a couple weeks ago at an old tackle store. Theyre the ones before picasso made some. The ones will davis's dad made but i can't remember the brand ive been usin the 3" hazedong (not the shad the actual hazedong) on them.
You're right randy,I remember the tournament he broke that bait out & I'm not sure if he won that tournament, but he did great for it,I will surely miss Aaron, and so will bass masters fraternity
First time I ever used one the water temp was 44 degrees and caught 13 nice bass. When I was teaching my girlfriend to bass fish I tied her on a 1/4 oz. scrounger with a small zoom fluke and she out fished me 10 to one and she caught her largest bass, a 3.3 pounder. One tip I always tell people who use one is to thread the hook toward the top of the trailer, this keeps the bait from spinning...I've always got one tied on!! RIP A-Mart
The bigger ones works really good in Michigan/Ohio during the dog days of summer under bridges and around big concrete structures, under shade. One of my lil tricks.
Randy, do you have any stories about Glin Wells? His wife was one of our substitute teachers in high school and she would tell us he was a fisherman, but we had no idea he was fishing Bassmaster Classics until Bassmaster put out a video last yeah where Hank Parker mentioned his name.
Thanks for this information ! I wish Aaron was still with us ! He was an amazing person, he loved everyone.
RIP Aaron Marten’s Gone way too young brother

Wow i thought he retired he was My favorite angler I always loved watching him in the tournaments and never heard anything about his passing.
U da man Randy. Thanks buddy 👍
The Scrounger is highly underrated IMO. This bait is great for highly pressured water, at least for me.
Interesting video and tip. Going to try.

I met Aaron Martens several years ago in Waddington NY. I think he won it!!!
Pulse Fish Lures makes a killer version. You should check them out Randy.
Scrounger needs to put some UV protection in their plastic so they dont yellow and oxidize like that.
John McHatton
I wonder what Aaron would have to say about LiveScope ? Sorry you lost ur buddy MrRandy , Aaron was The Man
I've been using Scrounger size 1/8th and 3/8ths for decades now. 4 lb and 8lb line. It's a good choice Los Angeles

A-Mart was my fave
Rip!!! God bless
The typical scrounger bite feels just like the typical hover rig bite for me. No real detectable "strike," the rod just suddenly loads up...

Nice!
Great Tips, Randy 🍺🎣
Good info ! Thank you and God Bless A-Mart !!

RIP Aaron.
My scrounger heads are all yellowed out / oxidized like that too! I need to go back to using them again.

I do like the scrounger too , good one
I caught a 12 pounder on a white fluke head cut down fit on the scrounge r works cool
Smaller profile works great
I think he would be against it
I just bought some small scrounger heads like a week ago. Looking forward to fishing with it.
I’ll try a goby on it 🎣
Randy, do you think a tube bait would work with that application of keeping the bait close to the bottom?

He was one of the old-school hammers back in the early to mid 70s
Old hog snatcher knew how to catch them anywhere!!
Never seen tĥose before, looks like it would be good with curly tail grub
