- 1 step forward, 2 steps back. That's the Gen 2 motto lately. After having a successful test and tune on Saturday, Monday hit us hard.

I’ve never seen a lifter that bad come out of an engine without a total disaster. So thankful the little 340 survived!

I wonder when that cam and lifters was installed. There’s been some problems with lifter bodies in the past couple years. Cheap Chinese steel so I’ve heard. It’ll be better than ever now though. I’m sure you can get Isky to hook ‘em up Bill.

@@gen2garage if the current engine in the Dart is hurt bad then you can always swap in the Gen 3 Hemi and put a Supercharger on it so she doesn't have to worry about a boost controller, CO², or anything else that has to do with a turbo engine and she can still have a boosted car with more horsepower than what she had which she wants anyway and she is ready for and one of the main reasons I think she isn't already going faster is because I think Jeff is scared and nervous for her to go any faster right this second but I think she is ready and she'll be able to handle it you guys I think make her nervous before she makes a pass because everyone is coming at her from all different directions and trying to coach her before every pass but I think if you just give her a pep talk once you get to the track and just let her do her thing after that she'll be ok after that

There's a quick & simple cure for that nitrous addiction -- they're know as twin turbos. If it's good enough for Billy, Tommy, & now even Bill, it's good enough for Allison too. (According to Jimmy Dale) She's already driven the Falcon a couple of times, so she already had a taste of the turbos, on gate.
Just love Jeff's ways. .. also want to see more of his car!!!!! Jeff already has a cam in mind ... He is a Mopar Man!!!!!!!

Hey guys, a friend of mine has pretty much the same engine combo as yours with a larger cam, it made 475hp @6200
+40 340 Stock crank -rods, zero deck flat tops, ootb edelbrock heads, ootb M1 single plane, 750, 557mp cam and 1.75 headers.
Food for thought 👍🏻
And a Hughes, Howard or Voodoo cam with the same duration will out perform that old mp stick!

I think they want to make some more content with the first generation small block Mopar before they swap it. Tommy also mentioned they may sell the new crate hemi they have for the larger displacement! I think it’s a 6.4 liter they want to get instead of the smaller 5.3 or 5.7 Billy picked up for them.

Hey guys, old N.H. guy here again. I'm pretty sure you guys know about this, but a year or two ago there were a ton of guys on UA-cam complaining of cam and lifter issues. I found them because I had just put a brand new "stock" cam and lifters in my old 1980 Ford F600 ramp truck's 429 and 2 of the lifters looked exactly like yours after running it literally only an hour or less ! I've changed plenty of cams in my lifetime and had never seen something like that happen that quickly. The engine builders and mechanics came to the conclusion that even name brand cam and lifter kits were buying lifters from "questionable" sources to due supply chain issues during the plague. Also, I'm pretty sure you're gonna find that lobe is no longer flat across any more when you pull it out. Think about it---- how would the lifter be concave like that without the lobe having to be worn down on the edges too ? Not trying to be smarter than you guys or anything, but when mine failed the lobe was trash too, and all the sbc cams that were bad from the factory back in the early 80's were that way too. Just passing along my experiences. I know it's a moot point because you're gonna upgrade anyway, but......... And just a quick " because I couldn't help myself" comment---- Jeff brought the trailer because he knew there would be GM's there and it might be needed !!!! Just fuckin' with ya !! As I've told you guys before, I watch and like every video all of your channels put out. All of you are way telented for your ages. Of course I'm cheering on Allison because Mopar rules over GM any day in my book, and I'm betting on her kicking some of your asses eventually !!!! The shit you guys do keeps me "young" !!

Sure glad it's ok hey ask Jeff since your going solid can y'all get the solid lifters with the tiny oiling holes in the bottom of the solid lifters just an idea but their alot easier to break in and perform great we run them ourselves.

My mom had a 1984 Ramcharger 4x4 and I took my behind the wheel test in it to get my drivers license. Me and my friends had lots of good times cruising around and off-roading that Ramcharger. Awesome truck 👍

I wonder what Cam company they will use? I bet it will start with I. Remember people they did not build this engine so who knows how old the lifters are. And Hemi swap sounds good next off season if possible?. Better start getting all the list together and do the research.. Love the content and the video quality on your videos in 4 k is just like being there on my 70 inch Neo oled Samsung. I can see ear hairs LOL. Time for some pro jacks since I don`t think a lift will fit in Jeffs garage. Im sure there are some reasonably priced Pro jacks of decent quality. I would ask Big Cheif. Peace out for now. I used to run Pontiacs back in the day 400's and 455's they were so bad about wiping lobes off the stock cams, that it got to where the First thing I'd do when I bought another one was replace the cam and lifters usually with a Crane Cam and lifter kit lol.. A lot of other people said they had bottom end problems with them, but I never ever had a problem with the bottom ends. I ended up thinking their bottom end problems started at the top with those soft metal stock cams......

I bet that 340 surprises the heck out of you when it’s finally healthy and revving out. It’s probably been hurt this entire time and basically running on 7 to 7-1/2 cylinders and not enough rpm. It’s going to wake up nicely.
Mark is the man with a plan when it comes to getting hard to find parts!! And watch those jeep brake lines as well!?? The mounting tabs for the soft lines are crimped on and eventually rust builds up and chokes the line..

Glad y'all got lucky! I didn't ... Lifter seized. Ate the cam lobe and destroyed all the bearings. Fortunately i had another engine on the way already as a backup.
Great catch by Allison hearing the tick. I had a 72 340 Duster back in the early 90’s. It ran 12:80’s on motor. I bought my first Nitrous kit for that car. I believe it was called a Cheater kit or Fogger kit and It ran 12.00’s. That was fast for a street car in 1991. If I remember right it was a straight Nitrous line to the plate. I had to run the carb fat to keep from burning a piston. I don’t remember the earlier nitrous kits spraying fuel like kits today. I had a button on the dash. These kits came along way.
Mopar rules. Today on a cruise around western WI looking at the flood waters found a Ramcharger with a removeable top and a 4 door 3/4 ton big block powered truck made an offer waiting to hear back.

I was actually concerned about you putting NOS to that 340 since it didn't seem like the combination was working. Plus the fact that is suppose to be the engine for the Dakota. Remember the Dakota? Can't wait to see it run with a new cam. Maybe 11.00 on 100 shot?

Well it sure starts and idles good but it also has a ticking noise so what's that from!! That truck was low mileage wasn't it!! I feel ya on the weather Tommy. It was like 85-90 all last week up here in CT and this week is been 45-55 everyday. I'm sick of it LOL. At least the cam isn't wiped, maybe you can get a few bucks for it to put towards a new one. Or is Jeff one of those Mopar guys who doesn't get rid of parts?
