- See how a second generation prius can behave in a very strange way.
E.g. dash lights go on while the car running and it is put into gear, restarting it clears some of the lights. The red triangle (MIL) light is always on but sometimes it is not on (not seen here). Have tried 2 other skid control ECU's but get the same results.
You have the "Red Triangle Middle-Finger of Death" on your multi-information display (MID).
Any time your aux battery falls below 14 volts the hybrid system is suspect its the life blood of the car. Switching modules requires the computer to be reflashed if it was coded to that car.
Take an OBD2 reader and Torque App.
This can be :
- hybrid battery cells
- hybrid battery ECU
- failure on hybrid battery harness
- hybrid battery current sensor failing
Also check humidity in the trunk (right and left sides).
Check the inverter coolant level and if it moves when power is on.

I jus had the same problem, I noticed the charge on the battery screen showed it low and grey stripes, after driving in for a few miles, the battery stripes came back to green and warning triangle light wasn’t there anymore, I hope this helps
im having the same issues the screen on my prius does not show the consumption screen where the hybrid and gas split?
Low voltage on 12v happens many times over 10 years but works fine.

I'd Recommend Resetting it
You have a problem with the hybrid battery ,turn off the dash lights by using an OBD2 ,and keep the OBD2 handy in the car to turn off the dash light as it keeps coming on frequently .you can also disconnect the POSITIVE on auxiliary battery for 10 second and connect it back again.....reply me if it worked for you .....it is working for me with OBD2

I'm having same thing. Things to consider- gas cap not tight, low on oil, 12V battery dying, or worst case- hybrid battery issue. Might have to take it in. I'm going to check 12V battery now.

my parents had a prius, could not figure out what was going on with the red triangle of death, It was just low on oil, we put some in and the issue went away. I think that there should be an oil pressure gauge in a prius, not just the red triangle of death.

Disconnect the battery from your car and for the back disconnect the orange plug for the batteries at the back and you will be set
I just had that problem a week ago mostly likely you dont have to worry much about the ebattery just need to buy a new V12 battery fix the problem right away did it on my 2005 prius also make sure to check and clean and switch the filter from ur ebattery that helps alot

Hi Tim l know may be work but if you unplug the battery 12 v connector white color big one is on top of the red plastic try bcse was same

I have one bad cell as well. The code came up P3021.

The HV battery is probably way out of balance. But you really cant tell crap by just turning things on and off like this guy did! All he is doing is running the battery down to zero and messing it up even further. Get a code reader and find the codes in the computer. Do troubleshooting intelligently.

I BELIEVE your hybrid battery is dead. The fan running you hear in the backseat is the coolant pump for the hybrid battery. See the icon in the upper left corner of the screen...that's the hybrid pump struggling to cool the hybrid battery since it's working harder.

@@lyn6579 I had to get a brand new 12 V battery and I had the codes P0A80 and P3021. Both of those hybrid cells was dead and I had this guy fix it for 450 bucks and It’s been working ever since. Fan came on in the back as well but he cleaned it out and that was fixed as well once the hybrid cells were done

I was having the same problem after I changed the 3⃣ way cooling pump still same problem,little red car,I set the heater full blast thinking that I was over heating.after driving for a while little red car when away,turnoff the heater no little car so far

If your not getting at least 40 mpg that hybrid battery is bad
Pump the brake 10 times while it’s completely off then turn it on

Thank you! This cleared all of my codes including the triangle of death. Now I hope it stays that way. I also had a little moisture near the battery which, appears to be quite common.

or the left cable thing on the trunk battery. left as in if you are standing outside looking into the trunk, aka looking from where the negative terminal is closest to you (and obviously i assumed that your battery is not upside down). this happened after i unplugged that cable, why did i do that? cuz my car wouldnt turn on, i fixed the power button sorta, but now this is still happennin im gonna try to run an obdii scan see what it says
I have a problem right now can’t figure it out scared it’s the main hybrid battery but it says it’s running at 14v but Anyways my red triangle light is on and the vsr and the check engine light is on and the fan is starting to blow in the back seat. I changed the 12v battery and checked the oil checked gas cap checked coolent check pretty much everything and the car was driving ok but now I as I take it for a drive it doesn’t want to do it just wants to die and not drive at all. Sucks what do you think is the issue?
Sounds like the main battery pack to me.
It was!! it was one of the single rectangle batterie in the main battery pack in the back seat only one was dead thank god and now it’s running great again ;)

...so you are saying I have to either get some plutonium or I need to be struck by lightning in order to fix my Prius. Ok then, that does sound about right.

Exact same thing going on with my 2007. Wtf is the problem(s)??? I have tried several fixed, some work temporarily, others don't work at all, it runs sometimes, won't start other times, it is insane! Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks

@@asmaabeauty55 Yes and no. Turns out that 3 cells in my hybrid battery had burned out, literally. Replaced those with 3 reconditioned cells from Amazon, less than $100. Disconnected the 12 volt battery and charged it overnight. Hooked both batteries back up the next morning. Car starts and runs great. AC, all electrical working. But the lights are still on/off on the dash whenever they want . Still trying different things to solve the light problem. I think when the battery shorted it may have affected a few other components that I will probably have to replace. Narrowed it down to the ABS actuator and/or the inverter. If you want I will keep you up to date over the next week on my progress.

Fuck the dealership 7 times they left a sensor connector loose so that it would fall off and trigger a check engine And they property Think that I’m an idiot And expect me to come to the dealership so that they can make more money

Just happened to me guess what it’s nothing with battery at all the steering column broke lost steering shortly after it all came on
So u needed a alignment?
Easy just check the 4 door and trunk and hood make sure is closed
After that turn off engine and turn on
If the sane the hybrid battery problem

Solved🎉🎉 today i change filters oil.. then red triangle and the little car simbol.. so come home slow.. then remove gas cap and replace and fix it😅

I got same problem in my prius 2007 and I fix it by myself, and my prius went from 40MPG to literally 48MPG minimun, if you haven’t fix it, answer this comment and I will show you the two tools that you need to fix the problm.

Put engine oil in the car.

@@copilotopilato el inversor o inverter está al lado del motor. Una cajita color gris. Puedes conseguir uno de segunda mano y cambiarlo tú mismo.

You have to scan it for trouble code. You can’t just keep trying to clear it by restarting the car.

You main battery is bad, needs to replaced
Service due reminder light is on, just service your car, everting will be fine.
Your instrument cluster has some bad indicators. Just go to prius repairs, man.

No it's not the 12V battery. It's the hybrid battery that is the problem. I'm having the same issues. I already changed my 12V battery. When the hybrid battery goes it's at minimum $1,000 to fix.
Do I have to disconnect my 12 v battery when this happens ? I got this from changing my coolant.
@@AnthonyGalations329 Check the ground bolt off your 12 v battery. I have found those corroded because of water leaking into battery compartment.
