1992 Opel Vectra A 1.6i GL - Walkaround and Overview

  • This video features the 2nd car I've ever owned, a '92 Opel Vectra featuring the C16NZ 1.6L 4-cylinder engine with 75bhp and around 130NM of torque. This is the base trim GL model. Originally, the car had 54000KM on the odometer and I paid €1800 for it in 04-2014.
    Update 24-5-2018: The sad news has reached me that this car was totaled in early may of 2018, 9 months after I traded the car in. RIP.

    I remember this car very well, when Opel was one of the big player in the Car industry after Mercedes and BMW, Vectra came as a replacement of the legendary one Opel Ascona

    Love how well preserved it is...I need to have mine painted; only bad thing is that inner lining shows its age. Wish I could find one with well preserved interior

    Wow, that car is almost like a brand new! :P sorry to hear that it's totaled :( I have 1992 Vectra 2.0i GLS myself, sadly it's in very bad condition, mainly because of the rust... if I ever get a chance to fix it, Id totally do it, and drive it when I get my driving license around 2023.

    Looks great!! I didn't saw a first generation Vectra in such a good condition for quite a while! It's a very good car, a neighbor of mine had one of these, and it was running forever! Take good care of it, 90's cars rule!!!

      Yep, I know. Mk3 cavalier if I'm not mistaken? The main reason I bought this car was the low mileage and the condition it's in after 22 years.

    oh man your vectra looks so nice! I could have buyed one of this new crappy city cars but instead bought the vectra 1.8 from my old man, its all beaten up but Im gonna fix it to make it look like yours, hopefully. fun to drive fast enough and safe. a guy in a mazda hitted me in the back last year, it rendered the mazda useless.
    the acceleration could be better thou, probably mine needs some work in the guts too...

    It is a really nice car. i have one too. built 1988 - 185000 km and the engine still works fine.
    but take care of the rear wheel housings. It's very prone to rust.

    • @nelizmastr
      @nelizmastr  10 років тому

      I know about the rust in the rear wheel arches, yes, but thanks for the suggestion anyway :). I'm glad this car has always been inside of someone's garage, so it doesn't have any rust whatsoever. And with 56.000km, it's not worn in any way.
      I heard that the 1.6 and 1.8 engines can easily do 300-400.000 as long as they're well maintained.

    Hey man mooie video. Ik wil binnenkort mijn eerste auto halen en deze lijkt me echt nice.
    Alleen bij de meeste Opel Vectra A advertenties zie ik dat ze zo een heel oude soort radio erin hebben. Kan je deze makkelijk met een nieuwe vervangen? Wat zijn verder je ervaringen wat betreft onderhoud? Is het een auto die vaak grote beurten nodigheeft? En als laatst, hoe is het rijplezier? Stijf of lekker vlug en comfortabel?
    Alvast bedankt!

    • @nelizmastr
      @nelizmastr  8 років тому

      +Stefanovic Deze auto's zijn gebouwd tussen '88 en '95 dus een oude radio is vrij logisch :P. Ik heb de radio van mijn vorige auto (''99 Citroën Saxo) over laten zetten en dat was gewoon 1-op-1. Splinternieuwe radio's met alles erop en eraan kunnen een uitdaging worden. Zelf heb ik geen tijd om me om een auto te bekommeren dus laat ik dat soort zaken over aan de garage. Tot nu toe heb ik alleen een defecte thermostaat gehad, verder niets. Gewoon de jaarlijkse beurtjes en APK. Service interval is 15.000km. Waar je vooral op moet letten bij dit model is roest. Vooral in de wielkasten. De motoren lopen wel 400k, maar de auto eromheen is dan meestal al verdwenen.
      Qua rijplezier is het meer comfort dan wat anders. Je moet niet verwachten dat het allemaal heel strak en snel is. Zeker niet met de 1.4 en 1.6 motoren. De 1.6 is ruim voldoende voor deze auto, maar als je echt snelheid wilt moet je een 2.0i zoeken. Het fijnste kenmerk van de 8-kleppen injectiemotoren op de Vectra A is toch wel het koppel. Hij komt vrij makkelijk van zijn plek. Kleine kanttekening, ik haal met mijn 1.6 75pk qua verbruik makkelijk 1:16-1:17. Dus als je geen scheurmonster bent hoef je ook niet heel vaak te tanken.

    almost died in that car when I was a kid. Father lost control in the corner and we flipped on the roof. Apparently this car has heavy back end so when you loose control you can t stabilize it anymore. I hate that car.

      APK checker is niet accuraat op gesloopte voertuigen. Hij is inderdaad gesloopt op 11 mei 2018 dus dat klopt. Ik heb hem afgelopen augustus ingeruild en de hoofdmonteur van de garage vertelde me dat-ie een paar weken terug tegen een boom is gejaagd en dat met minder dan 80dkm op de klok.

      nelizmastr awesome, I'm thinking to get one myself as well. Spotted a beautiful 2.0 in the Netherlands, thinking about exporting it to Belgium and insure it as a classic for the first 2 to 3 years

    • @nelizmastr
      @nelizmastr  9 років тому

      Nice. In order to classify as a classic, a car needs to be 30 years old or more these days. By the time this car reaches that age, it has long been scrapped.

    • @MrMarty77
      @MrMarty77 9 років тому

      nelizmastr over here in Belgium my insurance company sees cars over 15 years as classics and 25 as old timers. For the government it's either a normal car, or an old timer with an 1-OXX-999 licence plate on it. Insurance on an old timer costs €100,51 and classic €201,02/year. The only drawbacks are that the insurance company doesn't allow for it to be used do drive to work/school. If I want that, I'll have to insure it as a normal car, prize based on the engine's hp.

    • @nelizmastr
      @nelizmastr  9 років тому

      Still much lower fees than here in the Netherlands. I have to pay 32 euros in tax and another 48 in insurance, every month.

    • @rafaelramosmelim735
      @rafaelramosmelim735 4 роки тому

      It is slow and a gas hog but it is reliable because the vectra is too big for that engine. That engine was shared with the kadett e, corsa a, astra f and corsa b. On the corsas and astras they were quite zippy and fun to drive. The opel astra f 1.4 sport until 1996 had that engine and I saw a lot of them with 400000 km. It was replaced with the 1.4 16v engine due to lower fuel consumption and lower emissions not as reliable though those 16v usually need a rebuild job at 200000 km

      To be fair, until 2017 all Opels were still GM, which means plastic crap mobiles. The old Opel, which this Vectra was a part of, died around 2002-2003.

    • @denalisiomontpellier4064
      @denalisiomontpellier4064 5 років тому

      @@nelizmastr kinda agree with your comment. But GM, in his confusing multitude of brands, have and had still good cars. I really liked opel untill like 2005, and I missed cars like the opel speedster, frontera and omega in their lineup. Even though those cars weren't perfect, they were interesting back on the days. Today opel almost only have underpowered and small-size cars. Looks like a low-cost brand like fiat today.
