- Browdean Farm by A. M. Burrage.
Alfred McLelland Burrage (1889 - 1956) was arguably born with writing in his blood. Indeed, both his father Alfred Sherrington Burrage and uncle Edwin Harcourt Burrage were both fairly prominent writers in the field of boys fiction.
After fighting during the Great War, Burrage would become a prolific author in his own right, often writing under various pseudonyms and spanning many genre's, from his acclaimed war memoir War is War to children's fiction. However, it is arguably his contributions to the ghost story which are most highly regarded, with no less an authority than M. R. James - arguably England's greatest writer of supernatural fiction - having praised Burrage's ghostly tales.
Browdean Farm first appeared in the collection Some Ghost Stories, published in 1927.
